Details

MyPaint is a good option for digital painters. Coming in with a large brush collection including charcoal and ink to emulate natural painting, it lets artists focus on the art instead of the program.

If you want to look deeper, MyPaint is built around a highly configurable brush engine. This allows you to experiment with your own brushes and with not-quite-so-natural painting. It is packed with cool features like layers, redo/undo, new color selector, unique and customizable brushes and more.

There are some cool brush packages available on the official website that can help one move ahead and be more creative without worrying about customizing brushes.

Its only downside is its development. It is not constantly or regularly developed, with a big time gap between new releases. Otherwise it is a good program to try.

MyPaint runs across multiple platforms including Linux, Windows and macOS. A new stable version 1.2 of MyPaint is available for Linux and packed with new features, improvements and bug fixes. The features in the versions for Windows and Mac users may vary depending on the development.
