Let me clarify something, if I may. I mentioned in the article that the site has the directions to reverse this, and I was assuming you went to the site, used the directions, and it still didn't work? If I'm off track then may I suggest you use the process on the Trish Tech site to reverse the process? Here's the directions to reverse the process from the Trish Tech site (link in the article if you'd rather get them from there):
How to Restore SearchUI.exe Back?
Many people have asked how can they restore SearchUI.exe back. In order to restore it, you have to rename the SearchUI.exe file back to it’s original name.
Start elevated command prompt. In order to do so, press the Win+X key combination and then choose Command prompt (Admin) from the menu that shows up on your screen.
In the command prompt window type this command and press Enter:
cd %windir%\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy
rename SearchUI.exe.001 SearchUI.exe
Restart Windows and SearchUI.exe will begin working again.
I used the batch file to remove SearchUI.exe, and it also got rid of the search function of programs on the computer. I did not know this was part of Cortana. (ie. Click on the Start button, then type to search, such as for "Control Panel") I wasn't expecting it to remove that as well. How do I undo this removal?
1) To display the old about:config interface, in the address bar type: chrome://global/content/config.xul.
2) The list of entries displays immediately, there's no warning page.
1) type: chrome://global/content/config.xul > No period.
2) Not on my machine. I see > https://i.postimg.cc/5NH2sw6D/png-3702.png

Hmmmm. I'm not sure what that's about.
I have this in place on my desktop and laptop and any searches from the Start Menu are unchanged, pressing the Windows key opens the Start menu. Searches from Windows File Explorer are intact, searches using the Win + R keyboard shortcut are working....all that occurs at the moment is to make sure Search is running in Task Manager or Services. That's the only thing I know of that would cause this, but there could be other causes I don't know about.
This causes search from the start menu to stop working as well. I can't press the windows key and type the name of a program to search for it in the start menu.
Lol yep we can hope, move to Linux, join the Apple universe, opt to use Android/Apple mobile devices instead of a desktop or laptop, or keep a close eye on our computers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I still have the mindset that "it's my computer, I built it, don't mess with it".
How could you say such a thing! To think that M$...I mean MS would ever dare to counter it's Windows users with such tactics...HAHAHAH! And then we all woke up, right!
Yeah, I thought the same thing as soon as I read the article. All we can do, I guess, is hope!
As with many things it’s a given the media will make the most of any natural disaster for their own purposes so we should always expect sensationalism and exaggeration to be part of their reporting strategy.
I’m originally from the UK and as a keen angler I hated it every year when the rivers were dredged and the weeds cut making these areas un-fishable until everything had moved downstream. Now this doesn’t happen anymore because it costs money. Over the same period thousands of houses have been built on flood plains and the combined effect with the lack of waterways maintenance has made the annual flooding worse, but still it always happened naturally. Just look at the locations of the affected areas and you see places such as ‘Water Lane”, “Bankside” and “Riverdale” etc. These names have been in place like for ever and were originally chosen for a good reason. :)
Now I’ve been living in Brazil for the past 16 years and every year we have the ‘fire season’ in the Amazon region. Almost certainly human intervention has conspired to make this worse but it’s still a natural event although you would never know that from the international press reports and ‘celebrity’ lectures. Here also they allow properties to be built in high risk areas for land slippage and yet it’s a ‘major disaster’ when a few hundred slide down a mountain or a poorly maintained dam bursts.
This is not to diminish in any way the pain and loss caused to those affected but the reasons why and potential preventative measures are highly complex. Unfortunately most of the more effective potential solutions are also the most costly and approval for this level of expenditure is never going to get passed by any mainstream political group. MC - Site Manager.
I don't think it will be any fun in South Eastern Australia right now but I do so wish you people would stop using the term "unprecedented". These fires are absolutely not unprecedented. It is so easy to check and see there have been devastating fires just about every decade in recorded history. What is likely to have led to these seeming to much worse is the mismanagement of the National Parks, something not being readily reported in the mainstream.
Just stop and consider, the eucalyptus has evolved to thrive as a result of wild fire. This evolution has occurred over millions of years - hardly as a result of human intervention.

Bit of a sweeping statement, that: "there are no free VPN services". Oh really?
Canadian VPN Windscribe, which has racked up some pretty good reviews over the years it has been in operation, provides a stripped-down free VPN service. I'm using it right now here in the UK. Choice of countries, even choice of servers in some xcities (I can pick from 3 in London) and 10GB a month allowance. Which isn't as good as unlimited, but then you're not paying anything for it. The premium service is good value compared to the large amounts of money being asked by other providers, and Windscribe is the only one -- or so I believe -- to have a special facility, Windflix, to get round Netflix locational problems. It'd be nice if people checked their facts before posting seemingly definitive statements about "no such thing as a free VPN". PS: I've used the annoyingly cutesy Tunnelbear before, but time after time its software created various problems on my PC and had to be uninstalled. PPS: you can actually get a much enlarged Windscribe allowance by browsing the 'Net for Windscribe promotions. Look for any where the voucher code word is COMPUTER, as that is a recurring Windscribe free offer.
** By complete coincidence, one of Windscribe's regular 'special offers' cropped up while I was penning this note. As a former subscriber (the subscription lapsed 3 months ago; I've been using the free service ever since) Windscribe offered a 'Christmas present' of 12 months' subscription for a mere 20 $USD. I'm in the UK, and according to PayPal's quoted exchanhge rate at the time of this offer, the £GBP cost was only £16.27p. I'm amending this post to make it clear that I'm now not on the free Windscribe service and to demonstrate that this company certainly offers excellent discount deals on a regular basis. Other than being a satisfied customer, I have no connection with it, but I do think it'd be worth incorporating in any extended TSA review of VPN services in future.
I'm not sure why everyone else should avoid this because you install stuff you haven't checked first.
This add-on is part of their suite and also available separately for anyone who wants it.
Yes, for Microsoft, Google, or any provider to change defaults when 'revision' software is provided is just plain wrong and can create hours of 'reconstruct' time at the worst. Thanks for getting back so quickly. ╰(*°▽°*)╯ Mike29322
It's not important that Edge be blocked per se - I like it and use it and think it's coming along very well as an alternative to Chrome. I like that it uses Google extensions, and Microsoft has started the process of giving developers the ability to create extensions for Edge Chromium so it looks like they'll have some of their own from outside sources.
What's important is that people don't have a new browser installed without knowing about it, and depending on what browser is used, being caught out with a new browser they didn't know about and may not have wanted set as a default. Internet Explorer 11 is still available in Windows 10 (for now) and people still use it.
I know several people who've used Firefox for many years that upgraded to Windows 10 and had no idea Edge was a web browser. They didn't know what it was so they never used it. I don't think Microsoft will set the new version of Edge as the default after it's rolled out as a Windows 10 update, but I don't know that they won't. Windows 10 has changed defaults for other things on my system (and others systems) without warning, sooooo.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Microsoft has released early builds of Chromium Edge for Windows 7 and 8.1 so earlier Windows versions will run Edge, but it would be a voluntary download for earlier Windows versions. The previous version of Edge wouldn't run on Windows 7 or 8.1. This Chromium based build will - giving people on earlier operating systems an alternative to Google.
Why is it so important to block this update. From the post above, it sounds like a solid alternative to the presently existing Edge and other broswers, especially for those of us for whom the word "Google" leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.

Thanks for the recommendation. An awesome tag scanner, IMHO. Automatically hops to the next track when you press Ctrl-S to save, and just generally gets out of the way and lets you tag tracks quickly and smoothly. Bravo to the devs.
The latest updtae of WPS started messing with my Windows 10 system - I was unable to launch Windows Explorer from the taskbar, various right-clicks didn't work, I was also unable to launch Windows command prompt as an administrator. I realized that WPS was the problem only after I created a new Windows profile and transferred all my data (took me half a day) Then I installed WPS and boom, the problems started again. I was so mad.
True there is no icon to use or change but left-clicking the right-facing chevrons (») on the right of your name opens the menu. I usually use a very short name for the first level menu (e.g. MyStuff) and then add sub-folders to insert shortcuts for other items into... Apps / Links / Folders etc. It's just "my way" to do it... not necessarily the best for everyone.
That's easier, indeed. But it seems you cannot choose an icon for that (even the yellow folder icon is not there, just the name I gave) and, most importantly, the folder I created to the taskbar does not open with a regular left-click!
Please have a look at OCRvision. OCRvision is a PDF OCR software. It can convert scanned PDF in a folder to searchable PDF automatically. YOu can download the OCR software for free from www.ocrvision.com
Even easier - Right click on taskbar, select toolbars / new toolbar. Navigate to the drive you want and click select folder. Drive is now available on right side of the taskbar. Even better - You can also create a folder anywhere on a drive, fill it with your favorite shortcuts, including drives/folders/apps, and select that folder for the new toolbar and you get a convenient access to all your favorites!

Qihoo 360 installed a toolbar and a shopping extension in my Chrome browser. Best avoid it. I'm using Windows 10.
Foxit's GUI is WAY too cluttered. SumatraPDF's interface is clean and minimal so it stays out of the user's way.
It's an issue, and given some of the consequences for some people when Windows 10 updates rolled out....a heads up seemed like a good idea. :)
Yes, for Microsoft, Google, or any provider to change defaults when 'revision' software is provided is just plain wrong and can create hours of 'reconstruct' time at the worst. Thanks for getting back so quickly. ╰(*°▽°*)╯ Mike29322
That's a good tip, thanks!
You can type the brackets from a keyboard while the calculator is in standard mode.
Good question. :)
Hotspot Shield is NOT free. There are no free VPN services

I have no expertise on this. By googling you will find many canditates. Please do your due diligance and inform us on your findings.
Please have a look at OCRvision. OCRvision is a PDF OCR software. It can convert scanned PDF in a folder to searchable PDF automatically. YOu can download the OCR software for free from www.ocrvision.com
That's another great way to customize the toolbar, thanks for the tip.
Thank you, I'm happy you like it. :)
Yep some more than others. :)
I try to choose ones that most people might like.
Some I like, others not so much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My pleasure!
Appreciate yours too! ;)
Some more than others.
I'm not too fussy on abstract art, but there the occasional, exceptional ones.
That is a great tip!
Thanks
Nice! I grabbed a few of those. Thank you.
Would this be categorized under another list? Any good place to look? Thanks.
Another +1 for Send Later for Thunderbird.
Such data is outside of scope of this list.
You're very welcome. :) Thank you for the kind words.
That's correct. This is the complete content of my reg file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg]
"Extension"=".jpg"
I like reg files, once they are created they are so much easier to work with. I have a handful I use often.
Thank you for your very kind words. :)
