Problem with logging in

Time and again, this issue about login has been posted here in the forum, and time and again, explanations have been provided as to why issue with login happens here in the forum. But, here goes again.

People have to understand that the forum on this site is not standalone, but it shares login with the main site. There are two parts to the Gizmo's site... first, the main site, the reason for this site to be in existence.. the main site where all the reviews of the free software are, along with several other articles of use. The second part is the freeware forum.

Both of these run on a different software.

People can browse both the site and the forum with just one login. To achieve this, a sort of a bridge has been created between the site and the forum. The main login is the login on the main site.

If you login to the main site first, and then move to the forum, you will find that you are logged in the forum, and the problem of repeated logout won't appear so much then. Nowadays, it does occur once for me... when I login for the first time to the site. After a while, the forum does log me out. I then re-login by choosing to reply to any thread, which opens up the login page of the forum for me. After that, I do not face any problem of being logged out of the forum.

I do logout at the end of the day, when I turn off my PC. So, I don't know how long the login remains if you do not logout. I don't have the habit of being logged in a site and just closing that page or the browser. I always logout.

Anyways, since the main login is on the main site, it would be preferable if people logged in to main site first, and then moved to the forum.

But, if you login to the forum directly, then such issues of repeated logouts can occur... because of the bridging between the site and forum.

So, please, understand that this forum is not standalone, and it is typical to this site. So please don't compare this forum to the other forums, which are standalone, and behave as they should. If this forum was standalone too, it would behave as it should behave.

And this site is run by volunteers who do the best they can. Keep that in mind too. So, please, co-operate a bit.

I am logged in on the main site. But I keep getting logged out on the forum. Refreshing the page after just 1 hour I'm logged out.

And how do you explain this.
"Sorry, unrecognized username or password". Without changing anything I just click Log in (at the bottom left) and I'm logged in.

Please post your login procedure step by step.

Which browser do you use? Which extensions do you use? Which antivirus do you have, or any other security software?

Since this is only happening with you, there is something definitely wrong with your setup at your end.

I also have this problem, have done for years. Sometimes it's been less of an issue, login stays 'live' for hours, recently it's back to kicking me from the forum in less than an hour, even though I remain logged in at the main site.

Pale Moon (x86 currently, though I see no difference with x64) on W7 Pro, user agent default - Firefox 60.9 (again, currently, as it incrementally increases to match the approx. FF version).
Cookies accepted from 3rd party if visited.
Tell sites I don't want to be tracked: enabled (currently, has varied, will test again).

Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control ~ last two days only, so irrelevant.

Browser sessions might be anywhere from ~3 days to 40+.

I suspect it might be the UTM on vBulletin triggering the 'logout', as PM's fingerprint will change with time/visit. I don't think Eldon uses PM here though, so there may be multiple triggers.

Login procedure:
Click existing pinned tab, click New Posts, get bounced to the login page, login, bounced to the "Sorry, unrecognized username or password", click Login.

If instead I click the main header to visit the Home page from the pinned tab, I'm logged in (to Drupal?), can make Replies to Comments, etc. but on going to the Forum, I need to relog.

Cookie specifics:
Would upload an attachment but "Your file of 278.6 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 97.7 KB for this filetype."!

Having constant issues with any browser i use.

Issues such as these have happened in the past, but not as bad as it is in the present.

Why i log in, close browser and have to enter u.n. + p.w. twice at re-opening?

There doesn't seem to be a logic.

For the record - just tried with Chromium on NeptuneOS without extensions and things went just fine (even after closing and restarting the browser as well). Now to hunt down the extension culprit or whatnot...
