Windows 10 Creators Update

Have been using my Creators update for 10 days now and the download (4gb), install and subsequent performance has been very smooth. All previous files intact and all existing 3rd party software (Bitdefender, Firefox, Privazer, Perfect Disk, Bandzip etc) continue to operate as previously.
Turned off unwanted apps and and deleted windows.old file to reclaim space on my SSD and everything good so far.

Resetting chrome://flags to default didn't work for me. However, disabling the option for hardware acceleration worked for me. This issue can be reproduced.

To disable hardware acceleration in Chrome, go to Menu > Settings > Show Advanced Settings > System, then uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available".

Problems solved. Now pop-up dialog boxes can be displayed, extensions can be added or removed, user profiles can be switched, etc...

What a bug! This hardware acceleration option was set on and it had been no issue before Windows 10 Creators Update. After this CU, the hardware acceleration option has to be set off for Chrome to work properly.

Glad that you are sorted. Unfortunately unchecking "Use hardware acceleration" does not work with Slimjet.

I tried it on Slimjet Portable and it worked for me after unchecking "Use hardware accelaration" and clicking restart.

Just upgraded my laptop to the CU via the Update Assistant. It didn't show up in WU so decided to go the UA route - I'm far enough down the road with Win10 to know it's going to spring the upgrade on me when I'm not expecting it and rendering the laptop unusable when I'm wanting to use it, and I can't be bothered with all that nonsense.

So, I've never done an upgrade that way before, always waited for it to come via WU, but it went without a hitch to be honest. Took a while but I just let it run and do its thing. After the install I did a few re-boots then installed the latest O&OShutUp10 and, up to press, everything is running fine. I'm just going to leave it running now for a while, let it settle down and then change a few stuff to set it to my liking.

Unlike my desktop, System Restore wasn't disabled on the laptop after the upgrade. Bizarre, but there you go. No problems with Opera on either machine, Stable or Developer .... and Edge seems to have improved performance wise, plus some other changes which, for me, make it a better browser. I've stopped using uBlocko now and instead I'm using Adguard, which works better. Edge is a capable browser and I like it even more with the CU.

I've noticed (both machines) that restarting takes a little longer than before the upgrade, not much, but it is slower. Other than that everything runs fine and I believe the upgrade is worth it.

Read a few horror stories here and there about doing the CU via the UA, was a little dubious about doing it but thought what the heck? ... a bit of spare time today so was prepared to sort out any issues that might have occurred.

One other thing I noticed is that after the upgrade the Store is set update apps automatically, which I don't like, so I turned it off again. Also, in Edge, the Web Note feature needed the 'Size' slider moving for the ink to show - it was set to zero and appeared not to be working, this was on both machines.

I've also turned off the new 'Gaming' settings. Not sure what the heck that's all about but I'm not a gamer so doubt I'll notice a difference.

After updating on the desktop experiencing the Chrome issue, now I've applied the Windows 10 Creators Update to the laptop and Chrome has no issue with using the hardware acceleration. So I believe this has to do with the hardware specs.

More users are reporting having this Chrome issue about "Popup dialog boxes are not displaying" with the Creators Update at the Chromium Bugs - Issue 710560.

Updated my goodly wife's LT from AU to CU and it went quite smoothly. Deleted windows.old file, which freed up another 13GB.

One thing that I've just noticed is that upon launching the Control Panel it closes itself after about 10 seconds: if I click on any of the icons within CP it doesn't open the selection eg Security.

Everything else within Windows Explorer is working fine so it's a bit of a mystery to me. I did run O & O's ShutUp10, this was also used on previous versions of 10 without a hitch.

Any W10 Sherlock Holmes' with ideas on how to fix this annoying issue?!

I've not had that problem with Control Panel but have seen it reported before. Did a search on TenForums and found these;

Dunno if they'll help torres, so you'll have to look through them and the links within. Could be an audio driver issue - is your audio on the LT working ok?

Have you tried doing a clean shut down and re-start? I've had little niggles in the past and doing that a few times has cleared the problem.

Everything seems to be working well on both my machines. Don't use many apps but the few I do use are working fine - even Kodi is working better than before the CU.
