Default Auto Enhance Photos

Hello,

The title says it all.

I am not looking for a program to manually correct colour, contrast etc in photos. Too old and too tired for that

About 10 years ago there was a program as part of the then current Microsoft Office that had an auto enhance one click button which did a good enough job for my needs.

Just got a new computer and the new office doesn't have that feature. It was really useful for me for when I use Gumtree ads etc.

I know there are heaps of online ones but that is quite a lot of steps compared to just opening the photo, clicking auto enhance and then save. Whola. Done

Can anyone recommend a desktop program just for this one task. I already have my favorite image viewer.

Regards,

Paul

If your new computer is running Windows 10 then the Photos app that's pre installed will do that.

Select a photo, click edit & create, click edit, then filters. Enhance your photo is at top right, with the magic wand symbol. Click it and it will auto enhance the image. Once it's done you can either save a copy or cancel the changes.

It does a decent job. You can also adjust the enhancement level with the sliding bar if needed.

Default Photos App

Hi Deya,

Thank you for that information about the Windows 10 Photos App (I am running the latest 1909 Windows 10 version).

I followed your instructions to the letter but when I click on "enhance your photo" the slider thing goes to 50% but the photo doesn't change.

Even if I then manually move the slider between 0 and 100% then save a copy the saved photo is exactly the same as the original photo.

The old Picture Manager that was dropped in Office 2010 can still be downloaded (for free) as part of the Sharepoint Designer 2010.

I just tried with this and the photo was indeed enhanced.

Will keep trying the Photos App from time to time to see if there is just a glitch with it's auto enhance function at the moment.

I must be getting old. It seems the old stuff just works better e.g. I did a simple registry change to get the Windows Photo Viewer back which I really like as a basic viewer.

But, for auto enhance, as promised I will keep trying the Photos app and let you know if it starts working for auto enhance.

Regards,

Paul

West Swan,
If you have an older version of Microsoft Office on disc, you can install Picture Manager.

Ok Paul, read this thread and use the link in the 4th post;

https://social.technet.microsoft.com...-in-photos-app

You need to install the Photos Media Engine add-on from the Microsoft Store - it's free.

I recently re-set my PC and, when first using the photos app, it installed that add-on when I first tried to use the photo auto enhancer. I maybe should have mentioned that but was assuming it would already be installed, yours being a new system. Sorry about that

That should resolve your problem.

I use IRFANVIEW which is a light but powerful viewer with a few enhancements.

Default I spoke too soon

Hi deya,

I spoke too soon.

For some reason the Photos App changed (I did nothing I swear)

Trying this:

Select a photo, click edit & create, click edit, then filters. Enhance your photo is at top right, with the magic wand symbol. Click it and it will auto enhance the image. Once it's done you can either save a copy or cancel the changes.

It does a decent job. You can also adjust the enhancement level with the sliding bar if needed.

Clicking on 'edit and create' then 'edit' is fine but there is nothing called 'filters' to click on anymore.

I tried to attach a screenshot to show what appears when I try. For some reason I couldn't attach it.

I'm guessing they updated it again.

Are you aware of this issue?

Regards,

Paul

No, I can't say I've ever experienced the filters option disappearing. As I mentioned, the only time that option didn't work was when I first used the Photos app after the PC re-set. I can't remember just what I clicked on that activated the prompt for me to install the Photos Media Engine add-on, only that without that add-on the auto enhancer, and possibly the filters, didn't work.

If you look in your MS Store installed apps, and Photos Media Engine add-on is there then, as far as I'm aware, you should be fine ...... and if it's working ok now then maybe it was just a glitch.

I've just opened the app and auto enhanced a few photos and everything works fine.
