Firefox Extension of the Week (Boost Productivity By Resisting Temptations!)

Jun 30 - Jul 4

You have been taught at your science classes in your elementary school that man cannot live without food, water, air and shelter. Times have changed in the 21st century and I would also add Internet to that list. Technology is now an integral part of our daily lives with Internet at its pinnacle. But isn't Internet and Social Media the leading distraction in our everyday routine that decreases your productivity at school, workplace or at home? Now that may be history when you start using this add-on. A must have for students and professionals!

LeechBlock

Internet's largest time sink includes Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Online Games, Blogging, Hulu etc. LeechBlock is designed to be a simple productivity tool that let's you block those time-wasting sites that can suck the life out of your working day. LeechBlock lets you to specify six sets of websites that you want to block with different dates and times for each set.
What to block: Enter the domain names of the websites you want to block and give a custom name for this set of websites (you can configure 6 such sets).
When to block: You can select the days to block the websites and specify the times according to:
  • Fixed time periods (eg: 9am to 5pm)
  • After a time limit (eg: after 15 min in every hour)
  • Combination of time periods and time limits (eg: after 30 min in 2 hours between 4pm to 11pm)
How to block: You can set a webpage to be shown everytime when you try to access the blocked website. By default, time is counted only when the tab is active, which you can change.
If you still think you can't resist the temptation to access these websites and decide to change these settings manually (within LeechBlock configuration options) within the add-on's menu, you can prevent this by disabling access to:
  • options for the specified blocked set
  • about:addons
  • about:config, when these sites are blocked.
Setting a master password to access these options is also possible which will be especially useful for most parents to prevent your children from changing the settings by themselves even during the times when the sites are not blocked.
There are also a wealth of other options that helps to slow you down during moments of weakness and withstand your desires in every way possible.
Say bye bye to online interruptions or disruptions while doing projects or homework from now on. LeechBlock might be the next best addon that changes your life and gets your work done.
Alternatives: Chrome - Nanny

Happy blocking! See you next week...smiley
