The VPN only works intermittently here as well. There were several threads on their forum about it but most have now been deleted. According to a comment on their blog, an Opera employee has stated that with it being a holiday weekend they only pushed the update to the Stable build so on the Dev and Beta builds the VPN remains broken and will be fixed this week. So there's obviously a problem all round, and it would seem that they haven't fixed it properly for the Stable version yet because it's definitely not working as it should.

Things like this are what I've been referring to in previous posts about them releasing Stable builds that are not ready. If the VPN is not stable, or something in the browser is causing it not to work correctly then it should be ironed out in the Dev and Beta channels, where you expect users to come across problems and then report them.

They seem to rush things too much, and in doing so they get complaints and annoy their users. It makes no sense to me. If providing a free VPN is one of the features they hope to attract new users with then great, but why not get it right first?

They continually shoot themselves in the foot just lately.

Yes, rightly said. If they roll out features which don't work, it's going to irritate people, specially new ones to the browser (like me), and will only drive them away from the browser. And that's a problem when there are so many choices available in browser world nowadays.

Kind of sounds alot like Microsoft's latest update blunders.

Have to give it to Mozilla for a solid Firefox (even if they muffed up on extensions back then).
As much as i like Vivalid and their innovations, it is not rare that there hicks there that make me go grrrrr! and go back to Firefox.

IMO, Slimjet has been the most stable chromified offshoot so far.

This is why I don't install the latest version of any program when the publisher has an obsession with updates.

Remember VLC media player 3.0.0?
Version 3.0.1 fixed more than 30 issues.
Version 3.0.2 fixed more than 150 bugs!

The thing is, Opera auto updates itself so if you don't know how to stop it you get the latest update installed, like it or not, and probably most people who use it wouldn't know how to stop it anyway.

Opera isn't alone in doing this, as we know, but auto update can be stopped. Just not by any settings in the browser.

This must be a problem with all Chrome based browser I suppose.

VPN seems to be working fine now. That too without any further update from Opera.

I installed Opera on the phone too. VPN wasn't working there too. It started working fine after an update on the phone though.

Not all, Anupam. Some do give you the option to turn auto update on or off and yes, the VPN issue seems to have been cleared up now.

The taskbar icon is gone again after a few days. I did nothing to that icon, and Opera didn't have any new update too, so it's really weird.

When you installed Opera, Anupam, and the icon showed in the taskbar without any input from you, are you sure it's actually pinned?

If you open the start menu, go down the list of programs and right click the Opera browser icon does it show as pinned to taskbar in the 'more' options?

If it doesn't show as pinned in the options, pin it and see if that makes it stay.
