I'm not sure if I fully understand the OP request, but in the options setting of "Everything", under
NTFS I have it set as follows: Ticked > "Automatically include new fixed volumes" Ticked > "Automatically include new removable volumes" Unticked > "Automatically remove offline volumes" If I connect a removable drive (volume) and run "Everything" it indexes that new drive. When I disconnect the drive "Everything" retains the list of files from that drive in its index. Regarding "Cathy", in my experience it's no longer reliable with Windows 8, which is a shame because I found it worked great with Windows XP. I've looked at other indexing apps but still find "Everything" suits my needs best. It's fast and simple enough for me use. Hope this helps. |

Re Cathy
I recall having issues with it regularly not responding and having to close it down with task manager. However I've reinstalled it and it currently seems okay. Re Everything I really like that it updates the database each time it's run. It discards information about files/folders that have been removed from the drive and adds information about files/folders that have been placed on the drive since it was last run. To achieve this with Cathy one must refresh the volume information which takes longer than the automatic function performed by Everything. |
