That's a good one.
Do you have WinPatrol (free version) to keep tabs on OS changes?
Windows 10 anniv. update did something similar by placing their store and Edge icons back on my taskbar. Albeit, not as bad as an un-noticeable or unwanted upgrade! Perhaps you had an option to not upgrade WPS?

I do have Winpatrol (free version), that was actually the first indication I had that something was happening, when it asked me if I wanted to accept WPSUpdater being added to Startup programes. But by that stage everything had installed.

I'm not too concerned, I tink the free version is more acceptable than it was a year ago when it had watermarks etc. just find it a all a bit strange.

Apart from startup entries, WPS Office also has three entries in scheduled tasks. You can check that out with CCleaner. Maybe one of them did the update.

WPS Office updated to 10.2.0.5908

This is a brilliant update. Check out the release notes . SmartArt is supported, Pivot Tables are included and mp4 videos in presentations are accepted now.

When I click Download for WPS Office free, there are two versions shown for download... common version, and EU version. Anyone knows the difference between the two?

There is no information available from them so this is just a guess but I assume the EU version is more privacy protected because of EU laws (which is why they want you to use the common one).

Yes, there is no information about the EU version, that's why I thought of posting here, in case anyone has any ideas. I guessed EU version would be better in terms of privacy, and I would like to download it, but atleast they should provide the differences in the two versions. They played it clever by not providing those.

I don't think there's any difference between the two "Common" & "EU", as there's no difference with the Free and Pro version when you compare basic Office features. WPS started with the model to have all the features of Pro version to be there in the Free version only with sponsored ads

I guess the difference is with the common version you connect with half a million Chinese links and with the EU version you don't.
