An interesting unrestricted freeware application that imo deserves to be added to the "Fast Folder Access Extensions" paragraph @ http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...rer-addons.htm, is FoldersPopup (http://code.jeanlalonde.ca/folderspopup/).
A nice portable (just one exe) and actively developed application written in AutoHotKey by Jean Lalonde who's very responsive to any questions/remarks/bugs you may have. (The current version is 2.2, but v3 is in development) |

I've been using that for the last couple of weeks, funnily enough.
It seems very good, appears to work in most dialogues once it knows them and uses next to no resources. It's like Listary or FolderMenu but without the extras. |

I used Listary before this but found it too heavy (though powerful) for what I use it: just jumping to the right folder. FolderMenu is also written in AHK, but no longer actively developed (latest version is 4 years old) and I doubt of it works on Windows 8. Quote:
And I know a new version 3 is being worked on in which you shouldn't be teaching it certain dialogs. |

Yes, I have Listary portable which I use occasionally but not frequently enough to have it installed or autostarting.
I didn't realise FM was an AHK program ... I've always liked it and it works pretty well in W7 although it does seem to miss some dialogue boxes. I stopped using it regularly because it tends to fall foul of the W7 problem whereby autorun programs load but fail to show their systray icons. Also having a lot of shortcuts in it does seem to slow it down noticeably. The cascading directory access was extremely useful but I use Classic Shell for that now. I'll look forward to giving FP3 a spin anyway. The dialogues aren't an issue as my experience has been that when FP comes across an unknown dialogue it just pops up a box asking if you want that dialogue to be added. So far I've needed to add nothing manually. It'll be interesting to see what else is new though. |
