Love the article on DiskAid http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...out-itunes.htm
It suggests a whole review of the category. In particular, DiskAid, as it says in the article, and CopyTrans, which i used 2 years ago, required "just the driver" installed from the itunes installation package--an advanced user procedure for sure. Oddly, http://alternativeto.net/software/itunes/ is not a good list of possible review targets because so many of them are "music managers" or "media managers" (curation, i think they call this?) and what i'm after is 3 things: - Viewing iPhone/iPad/iPod content on my PC. - Backup / Restore for recovery - Backup / Restore for moving to a new device. Possibly newer model / OS. http://alternativeto.net/software/i-funbox/ is a good source of review targets, and i-FunBox is itself one that i've used with success. This is a very complex category. There are lots of little restrictions all over the place. - Copy From vs Copy To. - Copies videos you took, but not ones you downloaded. - Does content open on your PC, or is it just for backup. - How content opens on your PC? Only thru their viewer? Or can you view TXT messages as txt files in notepad. perhaps thru an export. video files in vlc. pictures in windows picture viewer. - Sometimes you can backup and view, but not restore certain content types. - iOS version sensitivities. - How much of iTunes you need to install (some require you to backup in iTunes first!) - Some need jailbroken - and more
