Default Daum potplayer and persistent subtitles

Every once in a while Daum Potplayer insists on showing me subtitles. It doesn't matter what I do they remain on the screen.
I've just reinstalled using the latest version, *reinstalled a portable version that is!* but the same thing happens and I'm clueless as to why it would do this.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

But are these already hard coded into the video?

You could press Alt+H to disable the subtitles or right click on the interface->go to "Subtitles->Uncheck "Show subtitles".

So you're playing a DVD...

Try this: Go to Preferences (tap f5)->On the left sidebar, expand Device->click DVD/Blu Ray->Uncheck Display DVD Subtitles.

Let me know if it worked for you.

It worked for me for some and not others.
There were other issues with PotPlayer too and I've since discontinued using it.
I've decided to stay with Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 64 bit which has never let me down.
