MX Linux 18 rc1 most worthy!

Have taken out the latest MX rc1 for a spin and it is a gem!

Sure, it's only a release candidate but already a huge improvement over its previous beta.

Took less than 5 min. to install via usb.
Loads in less than a min.
The new graphics are all around, just super nice!

Of course, there might still be some bugs, but it's too bad Dedoimedo will probably wait until next year to review. IMO, this should be no.1 for innovation in its category for the year 2018.

Just keeps getting better.

No wonder MX is now third in the Distrowatch rankings.

Tried a live session and everything works including Compiz, Emerald themes, desktop cube and Skydome.

Will definitely install this as soon as the final release comes out.

For whatever reason, MX 17 was giving me issues.
Not so with this recent iteration!

- - - - -

-Solus would be my fav. but it doesn't go well with some of my peripherals.
-Manjaro would be another good contender, but as with Michael Moore, it always breaks at some point or another.
-Q4OS and LinuxMint Cinnamon are my next favs. (with no real issues) but MX 18rc1 has been the quietest on my laptop (something Window 10 can't beat either) and until i get a newer computer, it will do just fine.

Got a chance to look at the final release yesterday. It's very fast with no glitches I could find but it's still Xfce which like MATE looks to be what it is, old and tired.

KDE5, Cinnamon and especially Deepin are the DE's that have truly evolved leaving the likes of Xfce way behind.

Do agree that KDE and Cinnamon are much more modern but tweaking MX to the dark, black side gives it a good look too!

Don't like to say this, but have a few quirks or complaints to make about MX 18:
1. there's screen tearing even (although much less) with compton disabled.
2. coming out of standby mode fails to bring the OS back.

So, i went back to Q4OS Centaurus RC:
1. no screen tearing
2. no issues with waking up from standby mode but...

-can't install HP printer (getting a root with p.w. request which never seems to be satisfied).

Win some, lose some.

I've tried twice to install this but both times it failed downloading packages.

Maybe install it without additional packages above the default selection and then pull in the other stuff later.

Currently no time for a third attempt.

MX Linux 18 is a superb distro!

Have one issue i reported to their forum but is buried somewhere in a thread with no response (solution)... Problem? Can't get MX to wake up from suspend mode. A default screen shows up but no mouse response, nothing can be done except press power button to shutdown.

Usually just install on / in dual boot with Windows but don't think that to be the problem.
