The option for disabling the Online Template should be made available as it's not productive if you just need a blank document every time you start the app.

In Linux, this option was made available in Kingsoft Office for Linux Alpha11, but then it was missed out in the latest version WPS Office for Linux Alpha16 Patch3. I managed to get it to skip the Online Template by adding the following two lines in this config file ~/.config/Kingsoft/Office.conf

Common\wpshomeoptions\StartWithHome=0
Common\wpshomeoptions\StartWithBlank=1

It works for me and is quite similar to the way in editing the registry of the Windows version.

Did anyone notice this?

They are adding a watermark (although they are also mentioning about it) in Word documents that you print. Does this mean I can't print my own documents especially for projects without getting interfered by their watermarks.

I guess this is the end of the road. Since WPS has taken over its become worse.

It's often all too easy to get carried away and start categorizing everything from the same locality but this has developed into a common practice. EaseUS, IObit, and now WPS have all, IMO, scammed users into testing out supposedly free software that then either goes commercial or becomes practically useless in its free state.

I somehow had a feeling since the beginning that at some point of time, Kingsoft Office will screw things... and they will either stop the free version, and go commercial, or will screw up the free version, and that's what they did.

Really, as MC said, it seems like they scammed the users, and treated them like beta testers. Otherwise, why would they first offer functionality to save files in the latest MS Office formats, and then remove that from the free version later on.

I was pleasantly surprised the first time I visited Kingsoft Office in 2012. Apart from the free edition, the 3 programs, Writer, Spreadsheets and Presentation were available separately. And anybody familiar with MSO 2003 could use them without any help. They didn't support the newer MSO 2007 formats or the ribbon interface.

Then they disappeared but, the free office suite added support for the MSO 2007 formats and the user could switch between the toolbar and ribbon interfaces. At just 45 MB, it was a great alternative to the open source office suites, and to MSO.

And now... it's going to die.

PS The version no. you quoted is indeed the last freeware version.
The only limitation is .pptx can be opened and edited, but not saved.
