Whenever I visit the main site or I'm reading an article I get a pop-up notification about new articles (see below).
![]() The pop-up doesn't appear immediately. It is only as I scroll down the page that it appears. E.g. I'm reading an article and I scroll down as I'm reading and then this pop-up appears in the bottom right corner of my screen. Sure, I know that I can click the little "X" to close dialog box but that's not the point - it is just plain annoying. I am perfectly capable of keeping up with new articles on my own. I don't need any pop-up to "help" with that . Is there any setting to disable this pop-up?

This was mentioned (how annoying it was) during Beta testing of the new, responsive site, but it seems to have slipped through the net.
Let's hope this can be sorted soon!

If this pop-up annoys you like it does me, I've found a workaround. Provided you use Firefox with NoScript, you can check and ensure techsupportalert.com is not in NoScript's whitelist. If it is, delete it. Next, if you have this site bookmarked make sure you uncheck the option "Allow sites opened through bookmarks". Restart Firefox. Some images will not display and other features may be broken. If you really miss those features you can temporarily allow techsupportalert.com in NoScript and revert it when you are done.

Joe, try this. When you visit main site for first time... then scroll down and let the pop-up appear. Close it. Then it shouldn't appear on other pages that you open.
This should work. Otherwise, if I don't do this, and I start to open reviews with new comments... then I get pop-up on each page.

I agree about the pop up, it is very annoying. I seen a lot more pop ups in this site while reading Recent comments (pretty much what I I visit here other than the forum), since the change, than what I seen during the past 6 years in all the internet and all the browsing I done during that time.
I wont stop reading Recent comments as a whole but I am looking for the perfect way to kill that disgusting pop up with NoScroipt or Adblock plus. If I get it done, I ll tell you about it, Joe. ![]() Bo |

. I was looking for a way to block just that element and Adblock Plus allowed me to do just that. Credit actually goes to this article: http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...ed-filters.htmHere's what I did... 1. If you are using NoScript there is no need to block techsupportalert.com as I had posted earlier. In fact, blocking it will introduces other inconveniences which I'm sure you won't want. 2. I know you already use Adblock Plus Bo, but for anyone else if you don't have already have it then you should install it in your browser now. For Firefox (which is my default browser), you can get it here. 3. Navigate to the main site, i.e. techsupportalert.com. 4. Click on the Adblock Plus icon in the toolbar. 5. In the dropdown menu, click on "Open blockable items". A panel will open at the bottom of your browser listing all blockable items for this website. ![]() 6. Scroll down the list of blockable items until you find the two entries referring to "slidead". 7. Hold down the Ctrl key and click each "slidead" entry. 8. Right-click anywhere on the highlighted entries and click "Block this item..." from the context menu. ![]() 9. In the following window that appears, click the "Add filter button. ![]() 10. Refresh the webpage. Shazam! No more annoying pop-up notification. |
