Our Review:

Zamzar is an excellent general file conversion site. It supports more than 1,200 different conversions from one format to the other.

If you have any file, you can convert it to any other type of file in the same class. For example, you can convert video files, audio files, photos (e.g. convert JPG to PNG), archives (e.g. convert RAR to ZIP), documents (e.g. convert PDF to DOC) and eBooks (e.g. convert LIT to EPUB).

Usage couldn't be simpler: just surf to the site, select your conversion output type, point to the file you want uploaded or paste a URL for conversion and type in your email address. Some time later you will get an email with a download link for the converted file.

This email-based file retrieval gives you the flexibility of converting a file, for example a YouTube video, from a computer where you can't download the content, such as at work behind a proxy or at a public library. When you get home, you can then download the finished conversion immediately using the email link. I first used Zamzar over a year ago, and to this day I have never received unsolicited email from them.

There is a 50MB file limit for free use, but you can upgrade that to a higher limit with some online storage if you want to pay their fairly steep monthly prices. For most users, the free services are more than adequate.
