Password Manager Security Problems

Morning All...

Not sure this is the right spot for this, but I figured it is a security issues, at least it is for me.

I have been using Last Pass for years, and until the most recent versions, it's been a fairly decent functioning application, no issues.

In recent months, notwithstanding the major security breaches they've had, it has become unstable and incredibly unreliable, as evidenced by the complaints (and lack of response from the company) on their forum (and others). The issues documented on these sites mirrors my own issues.

I have to find an alternative, maybe one that stores them locally. Over the past few days this thing has become problematic, I can't even get the pop-up to populate, it's just blank.

I went to the Gizmo's Password Manager section, but it's not been updated in a year or so, although there are some recent comments.

Recent recommendations and experience, would you mind sharing with me?

Interesting, I've been using Last Pass for many, many years and have never had an issue with it. Now, I've chosen to support the company by paying for it, but that shouldn't matter. And, yes, there's been a few "security" issues, however, they've always been dealt with in a very quick manner and addressed.

You will find many people really like Keepass. I've never used it, but I know quite a few people who swear by it. If you Google password software comparisons, you'll find numerous sites where different password managers have been reviewed/compared.

I wouldn't use cloud/online services for my password. I just don't feel comfortable.

I use KeePass, and I find it great for my use, which is safe password database for myself. I will recommend it over any other password managers. It's free, it's open source.

I am going to likely install Keepass, seems to be a good alternative based on your recommendations and my research this morning.

Anupam: Do you use the Firefox extension for Keepass, as well?

No, I don't use the extension. For several forums I am on, and a few sites, I save the passwords in Firefox, for ease of use.

For emails, I remember most of my passwords.

For other sites, banks, etc, I refer to KeePass when needed.

BTW, the review, although an year old, still holds good I will say.. in general. Unless there are any major changes in software, or there are new significant software, things pretty much remain the same.

Bit of a thread drift...... I also have used LP for years with no real problems although it's a bit unreliable with some sites. I thought I would try something different last week and tried Dashlane. What a mistake! apart from being a nightmare to configure and run reliably I kept getting "tip" emails telling how best to use it (until I blocked them). So, still sticking with LP unless someone REALLY recommends KP (or similar) instead??

Jim: I tried Dashlane years ago, same experiences. Not an alternative.

One thing I may do this week is downgrade to the last LP version 3, I never had issues until 4 was released.
