It's fresh off the press, so be careful when downloading for Sourceforge as 18.3 is still listed as most recent.

MX Linux is an excellent system but it’s still Xfce which a lot of folks are not too keen on including me. This is also demonstrated by the requests in their forum for alternative desktops.
There is a community Gnome spin but this is only reasonably usable so it makes little sense to install it when the likes of Zorin are available. The community spin “MX-16 KDE Added” was IMO one of the best KDE4 distros ever produced for both looks and functionality but sadly there will never be another KDE based MX. Xfce looks dated and clunky in comparison to KDE and since a raft of extensions have made Gnome 3 more appealing I prefer to use either one rather than Xfce. Here is a quick custom setup from a MX-19 live session to at least make it look a bit more pretty.

While KDE might be the better looking and more option filled OS, Xfce 4.14 on MX19 is sharp.
When loaded with a dark theme and Cairo Dock that performs well on this distro, it doesn't look that antiquated. MX Conky has a selection that should please most too! Otherwise, things work pretty well and if there are any quirks to iron out, i'm sure the devs will get to 'em sooner or later. Also, I can never discard the importance of a welcoming and helpful forum. As such, MX forum is one the tops in that area. ![]() |

XFCE 4.16 promises to deliver good tweaks (and we won't have to wait a few years again):
https://news.softpedia.com/news/xfce...t-527973.shtml - - - - - Must admit, KDE Neon with Plasma 5.17 is pretty fast with a decent graphics rendition. Not as coherent though as Q4OS with regards to overall style (i.e. LibreOffice). |

KDE beta1 version is out!
https://mxlinux.org/blog/mx-19-2-kde...e-for-testing/ Was too tempting, just had to test drive it. It is AHS version only, but for some reason, it seems to be doing okay (so far) this time. Time will tell. It is lookin' good!! |
