I left Windows behind and moved over to Linux. Installed Q4OS and I am delighted with it. I thought I'll get a different Distro for my desktop. What with so many enchanting ones available!
I spent quite some time on this "Linux" forum and having seen the opinions expressed here, decided to try out: Makulu, Manjaro, Neptune and ChaletOS. The idea is to boot live from a USB and see how I like each one of them. Other than these, can you recommend any others that I should try out. My main concerns are speed, reliability and configurable appearance. Hardware requirements is not a problem with my desktop. Thank you

Zorin is worth a look otherwise you already have a good selection of variable choices.
The recently released Netrunner 17 is also the first truly stable distro with a Plasma 5 DE but it won't be the fastest choice. http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/n...7-horizon.html Bear in mind too that some distros can run Compiz/Emerald. This takes theme options to another level. Cairo Dock will also give you hours of fun if you want the ultimate individual look. NVIDIA graphics can be problematic for both Compiz and Cairo.

Which distros are capable of running Compiz/Emerald also depends on the version number or the version of another distro it is based on. Examples: http://askubuntu.com/questions/48168...r-ubuntu-14-04 http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/how-t...u-1210-or.html Same goes for potential NVIDIA issues although these can mostly be solved by installing additional drivers.

I have decided on ChaletOS. I read about the doubts regarding one man's ability to sustain this os, but I always had a weakness for the underdog. Further, I am happy to make a donation to a one man show! So far I am quite happy with my choice.
I am yet to check about Compiz/Emerald capability of ChaletOS. When I do, I will post in the forum. One of the links you gave me says that I need a 3D capable graphics card and drivers for Compiz/Emerald. I seriously doubt whether I have such sophisticated hardware ![]() That 'askubuntu' link you gave is going to be very useful to me. Thank you for all the help.
