Mozilla Firefox 14 is due to be released later today. It's already available from Kaldata. Soon other download sites will also start showing it on their sites.
According to Kaldata, the released version will be 14.0.1, which is strange, because this is the final release of Firefox 14, and it's already a sub-version up. Anyways, this I also confirmed from the ftp site of Firefox. The version will indeed be 14.0.1. But, the release is not available from their ftp like always... the impatient ones will have to download from the download sites, or, just wait for the official release from Mozilla site.

Firefox 14.0.1 is now available on the Mozilla Firefox site for download.
The release notes are here : http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox.../releasenotes/ Some good and interesting changes there like, Google searches now utilize https, awesomebar now auto completes typed URLs.. the latter was being desired by myself... maybe many others too. Enjoy

.....the best feature so far seems to be this:Quote:
http://www.ghacks.net/2012/07/17/fir...-14-0-release/ Tried it out on a youtube video and works great. You have addons for this. However, I am actually glad that firefox has come up with an in built feature like this one. Even if all your plugins (silverlight, java, flash et al) are enabled, the message "click here to enable your plugins" will be displayed even if they are enabled in the addons manager, if you enable the about:config hack. Should be good for safer browsing. This would of course annoy average users. No wonder they hid it deep under about:config. ![]() Last edited by Concerned User; 17. Jul 2012 at 06:05 PM. |

Thanks for the link to the article CU.
Just upgraded to the latest version here too, running smoothly. I really like the auto completion feature of the URL. It's already there in Chrome based browsers, and I had liked that feature. It's really a welcome one in Firefox, and it will improve the browsing experience, and increase efficiency. I was confused about the plugin feature, and wanted to find out more about it. It's a good feature I think. And understandable, that they did not turn it on by default. One another change that has been made is that favicons will not be shown in the awesome bar anymore, but only on the tabs. About the version number, GHacks article has the explanation. It's been done to get the mobile version, and desktop version of Firefox in sync.

@ Anupam: just "discovered" something else also about the "click to play" feature. You can also allow plugins for any particular site that you want to (whitelisting)....
The whitelist can be accessed through your permissions manager. Overall, a decent effort. They could have included javascript also :More here: http://techdows.com/2012/07/eable-cl...r-firefox.html PS: apologies for the big screenshots!

Thanks again CU. Looks like quite a useful feature. It would start working like NoScript if javascript was also included
.BTW, I never saw the Permissions Manager, nor do I see it anywhere in the options. Where can it be accessed from? A method to access it is explained in the article, but it's confusing a bit.

. You should then have access to it....By the way, remove the space after the "colon" when you're typing it in your address bar.

I was wondering it was about time that Firefox had to have this feature and am glad it did. I used this feature extensively in both of them. Opera 10.5 made use of this feature first, followed by Chrome xx. Ah, I don't know which version, they always keep updating, so version numbers are a menace to remember.

Not a huge fan of the globe favicon
.....Thankfully, looks like I'm not alone :http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...f=23&t=2503367 Disabled addon compatibility and installed favicon inserter.....Bingo! The favicon is back . The addon is fine (despite a few glitches).Hopefully, Mozilla will bring back the URL favicon (keeps fingers crossed..). |
