Default Don't use Macrium

If you value your current system setup steer clear of this piece of garbage. To restore you have to boot from the supposed boot disc, if it will allow you to boot. What a waste of time and energy. Sure its fast, because it doesn't work half the time. Do not use this freeware if you are serious about preserving your system.

Please give more details of what problems you faced while using Macrium.

Just because it did not work for you, does not mean that the software does not work for everyone. Macrium is a reputed drive imaging software, and there must be a reason for it being so.

Without giving details of the exact problems you faced while using the software, what you post cannot be considered as credible.

Paragon Backup and Recovery (Advanced) Free 2012 works just fine with Windows 7. It does everything it claims to do and does it well. I have thoroughly tested Paragon on my Windows 7 laptop.

Macrium works fine for me on Win 7. I do not have a boot usb though, I created a boot CD instead. Was really simple and smooth though, as I knew nothing about this type of software before I used Macrium on this system for the first time a few months ago.

Bootdisks/recovery media can be problematical, and Macrium has a few issues with its latest version 5, but it has been on top of the problem, with a number of patches, and as far as I've found in my testing, it is working fine now. The latest is 5.0 build 4522. You did not even mention what version, or if you tried the PE or linux based recovery.

Either version (Linux or WinPE) has worked for me. I do prefer the WinPe because it is built on win 7 file system. It will even let you create a cold image of your OS.The Linux version is only a restore disc.

i find that macrium works just fine and i use it often to image and restore. i agree with shemp that the win pe dvd recovery works so much better than the linux one. i found a nice download of it, burned it and tried it several times and it worked perfectly. here is the site for download. it is in the third box down labeled note.

hope this can help someone.
