Default Drive image not working

I've wasted hours trying to use this Aconis download from WD's site. In it's instructions it states:
"destination drive must be installed in the computer, and source drive elswhere (usb drive?). This is absurd! If you try and boot pc with new destination drive installed, pc wont boot, there is no windows OS installed. The whole purpose is to clone the old drive to the new drive. Interesting, Acronis does seem to recgonize my destination drive in my Rosewell docking station (usb 3.0 connection). It evens allows me to select source drive and clone to destination drive, but, after the so called cloning is finished, nothing is on the destination drive. I even changed the bios to boot first to the usb drive, but, it does not find the Rosewell docking station with destination new WD drive. So now what?

I can't find the text you quote in the Acronis True Image WD Edition Users Guide.

I suggest that you check out the Acronis forum for technical support. There are posts reporting similar issues: WD clone not working I didn't read them but there might be a solution there.

You do have other options using other cloning software or partition manager:
Best Free Drive Cloning Software or Best Free Partition Management Software

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I know booting from a USB drive with Windows or Linux is possible... but such a drive has to be created with a specific tool like Rufus, etc.

I haven't known or heard about a bootable USB drive, by cloning a system drive. Is it possible? If not, I think that's what might be the issue here.

Not sure if you're referring to USB-Image-USB cloning. If yes, ImageUSB may do the job unless I'm mistaken.

Guys, hbgizmo876 is referring to a Rosewill (mispelt in original post) SATA driver enclosure that uses a USB3 interface, in other words a USB drive. Not a USB stick.
