Default Macrium free without SSD support

According to this chart, there is no SSD support.

Does this mean that it won't back up the disk or that we must manually restore SSD trim from copy?

From that chart I can't see why they singled out TRIM, maybe because if you can afford an SSD, you can afford to pay for software .

TRIM is down to OS support + an SSD that supports TRIM (I doubt that any modern SSD wouldn't!) + good controller drivers + TRIM being enabled + TRIM being active.

Windows Vista and later are all TRIM capable but you should manually check that TRIM is enabled and active: http://www.hdsentinel.com/faq.php#trim

Yes, trim is enabled but probably like you said, if you can afford an SSD... it's like, if you can afford Outlook email client, you can afford all the other shareware apps that work with it.

Fortunately, there are alternatives and Linux has its pluses in that area.

The only possible reason I can think of right now for them singling out TRIM as an exception might be that, where TRIM isn't already active on an SSD that requires cloning, Reflect Free might not successfully clone the data to a smaller SSD.

Cloning like for like or to a larger SSD should still be possible, backups might be larger than they would from a TRIMmed drive.

You ought to study their FAQs and/or post to their forum expressing your actual needs to get closer to the real reason.

Here's what i could find on their knowledge database page:

SSD TRIM support

This features provides automated SSD optimization resulting enhanced SSD performance and longevity. Writing to an unused block is much quicker than an in-use block as it avoids both the slow erase operation and the read-modify-write cycle. This results an increase of both the lifetime and the performance of the device. It is effective for all windows operating systems, even those that support SSD trim natively as the file system driver can only TRIM blocks on de-allocation; it cannot TRIM blocks written by another process. It is also effective for USB attached SSDs.

If i understand this right, it doesn't say it won't backup an SSD drive but that it just won't optimize it.

All I see there is some claim of enhanced/accelerated TRIM by what must be a resident driver from the paid versions of MR, I don't see how the lack of that would in any way detract from normal backup/cloning using the Free version.
