Freeware Game Of The Week (New Year Special:Stealth Bastard)

Jan1: New Year Special

Let's bid farewell to the year that just ended and welcome a fresh start to 2012. Across the world, people have different ideas to celebrate and different languages to communicate their new year greetings but I have a unique language to share my greetings.. No, it's not's the language of GAMING! smileySo let me tell you about this great freebie.

'Confrontation or Avoidance'? Which one would you choose? Alright, I'll be more specific. Compare games like Left 4 Dead*, Dead Rising*, Resident Evil* to the likes of Hitman*, Thief*, Splinter Cell*. The gameplay of these two types of games is totally different. The former focuses on pure action where you obliterate everything you see on the screen and the latter, focuses on stealth where brains are as important as brawn.

I've loved playing stealth based games since I was a teenager and so, I've decided to feature one of them to start the new year that is shockingly good given that it is free. surprise

Stealth games have the slow, on your toes, look around, be in the shadows, watch your step like gameplay missions that require some patience, tactics and brains. Curve Studios questions that, why they should be slow and hence has redefined the philosophy of stealth and released a new indie game, Stealth Bastard: Tactical Espionage Arsehole. laughCool name! Curve's argument that Stealth Bastard is a game that has been born out of wedlock between the popular games Super Meat Boy and Metal Gear Solid is actually quite accurate.

The game has the sneaking, platforming, hacking, cursing elements typical of stealth games as a core component but redefines the usual genre by being fast paced,  frenzied and hazardous. The game offers 28 levels full of small, self contained rooms with cameras, laser grids, guarded computer terminals and a range of deadly robotic foes. frown
Gameplay: Stealth Bastard utilizes real-time shadowing system with 'Visible', 'Partially Visible' and 'Not Visible' as 3 levels of your visibility in the room. Hack various computer terminals in the room, hide in shadows and move objects around to block lasers, open doors and squeeze through right in time before you end up being squashed, sneak your way through the cameras and robots, one single misstep..then you get dismembered and die in a variety of gruelling ways by the piercing lasers and finally a timer to record the time for your successful mission to compete with global leader boards, leads to the crazy and speedy gameplay. Once you're done with all the levels, the game also includes a built-in level editor to create, share, play and rate various custom made levels by the community from across the world.
System Requirements: Dual Core 2.0 GHz, 1 Gb RAM, 256 Mb VRAM,  DirectX 8.0 compatible GFX Card, Windows XP SP2 or better, Vista, Win7
Stealth Bastard is gem of a game that you can't miss. It's free with great kick-ass music and has countless hours of fun. What are you waiting for?....
My thanks to regular contributer, user, Panzer for bringing the game to my attention. Happy New Year to all the readers. Wishing you a wonderful 2012! yes
