Introduction
|
|
This huge list of free computer security products and services has been compiled over several years and is continuously updated. The purpose of the list is to provide a comprehensive documentation of the security products available rather than specific recommendations. If you are seeking recommendations then check out our comparative reviews of security products [2] (links to them are shown in the list with The products on this list are almost exclusively free with a few exceptions. These include useful products without a free alternative that offer lifetime licenses or products of outstanding merit. If you are looking for a particular type of product use the index table below to go to the appropriate page. If you simply want to browse the list then click the link at the top of the index to view the list as a single huge page. Note that in some cases the links in the list point to executables. In such cases replace [dot] with . and the link will work. We encourage you to use the comments section below to let us know about dead or incorrect links, suggest products that could be added or simply to tell us about your experience with particular products. We really value these suggestions and look carefully at each one. Sometimes this takes a little time but rest assured your comments will be noted. 25. My Choices and More
|
|
Ako's current choices for protection Free setup (both 32-bit and 64-bit) for my friends and relatives. Here robustness and simplicity are as important as efficiency of protection:
My personal setup for 32-bit Vista laptop:
My personal setup for 64-bit Windows 7 desktop:
Scanners:
Backup:
Other security-related programs I use:
1) Use one LUA [539] for ALL everyday use and make another LUA which is used ONLY for banking. The point is, that if the everyday LUA is infected, the infection is almost always limited to that account. (99% safety guaranteed. This of course requires, that you are not yet infected, and don't install malware with adminstrative rights in the future.) and/or 2) Use one browser only for banking and a separate browser for everything else. This gives some extra safety. Prisoners on remand (might be useful, but not recommended)
RemoveIT Pro (too many dangerous false positives)
Winpooch (not compatible with XP SP3)
WIPS (PoC-software, very demanding)
Blue Atom, Mint Security Essentials (low detection rate AV)
Emco Malware destroyer, Mysystemexpert, Malware Eraser (low detection rate AM)
SecurityKISS Tunnel (free version very limited)
Ultrasurf (probably legitimate, but has some strange behaviour)
SpywareGuard (out-of-date)
SecureIT Free (out-of-date)
Ammyy Admin (used too much by scammers)
IObit Advanced SystemCare (All IObit programs: probable MBAM database theft)
IObit Malware Fighter (All IObit programs: probable MBAM database theft)
IObit Unlocker (All IObit programs: probable MBAM database theft)
IObit Random Password Generator (All IObit programs: probable MBAM database theft)
IObit Toolbox (All IObit programs: probable MBAM database theft)
IObit Uninstaller (All IObit programs: probable MBAM database theft) more
Norton PC Checkup (False and exagerrated reports)
FSB Antivirus (Beta program with buggy/incomplete features)
Doing time in jail (not recommended) NoAdware, StopZilla, SpyRemover (rogues)
