Introduction
This is a listing of 20 sites that legally offer free historical audiobooks and courses in audio and/or video.

All of these sites listed have content that is legal for them to distribute and for you to read and/or download.. If you find that any site listed is offering content that can not be legally transferred, please let me know in the comments below.

Free History Audiobooks
Audio Literate [10] 
has 9 free classic audiobooks in History available for free download in MP3 (zipped) without registration.
BooksShouldBeFree [11] has 56 free audio books in its History category available for download in very good quality MP3 or as text for reading.
Classicly [12] I have not figured out how to show a complete listing of the books here. If you scroll over book names in the introcutory paragraph, you will find links to a number of free classic novels as audiobooks. The audiobook collection appears to be larger than the ebooks collection above. Unfortunately, many of those links in the introduction are to the wrong books. If you copy the title and author from that intro to the search box above, you will get links to the proper books available for free download as MP3. A very nice audio collection of history books, but slightly diminished by the poor presentation. Thanks to Tyler G for this suggestion.
Education Portal [13] has over 316 free history lesson in online video courses available for free viewing online without registration. When you pass an exam on the course, you may gain college credit at over 2900 colleges.
ejunto [14] has a small, but interesting, collection of free History, Science and Philosophy audio books available for download in good quality MP3.
FreeAudio [15] small collection of free audio books, mostly USA historical/political, with a couple of unusual entries. They are available for download in MP3.
Free Listens [16] reviews free human read audiobooks and posts links to the free audiobook. This link is to its reviews labeled History.
Greatest AudioBooks [17]posts their audiobooks at YouTube and has 20 free audiobooks in its American History collection available for free listening online.
Khan Academy [18] offers over free video courses in History for free viewing online without registration.
LearnOutLoud [19] has 634 audio works under its History category, which is also sub-categorized. They are available in different ways, including online listening, MP3 or MP4 as many link to other sites.
LibriVox [20] has 398 free audio books under its History genre available for download in MP3 (64kb/128kb) or ogg vorbis. All are human read.
Lit2Go [21] The University of South Florida maintains a collection of free audio works. This link is to their History collection of 6 free audiobooks. All are available for free download i MP3 or free listening online without registration.
LoudLit [22]has The Gettysburg Address and The Declaration of Independence for free listening online and for free download in MP3 without registration.
MIT [23] The Massachusetts Institute of Technology offers several free courses in its History department of its OpenCourseWare collection. All available for free viewing online and free download without registraiton. Some are audio and video and some are text.
OpenCulture [24] has about 30 free audio books under its History category available for free download in good quality MP3 or iTunes compatible. Some are available for direct download, but most link to other sites for download.
Open Education DataBase [25] has links to free online courses and lectures in History. Thanks to Rhiannon, an editor here at TSA for this link.
PodioBooks [26] has Great Moments in history available for download in very good quality MP3. They have now added 3 works from the Christian Holliness Collection and a work that looks at the history of TV from a Christian perspective.
The Story Spieler [27] has 14 free audiobooks in its History category. All are available for free listening online and free download in MP3 without registration. All narrated by Roy Trumbull, a retired radio and TV broadcaster.
University of California Berkeley [28] has a selection of free courses available in its History department as free audio and video downloads from the iTunes store. All are available as free audio and some also as free video. These cover a wide variety of subjects. Some are also available at YouTube (below)
YouTube EDU University [29] a collection of video courses in History at YouTube on the university level. Some are short lectures and others are full courses.
