I've enjoyed looking at some of these desktops. I'm thinking of moving over to Linux because I don't want to go to Win8. I arrange my Win7 desktop with the taskbar down the left hand of the screen. On these widescreen laptops vertical space is at a premium and I want the maximum depth when word processing - a reason why I moved to LibreOffice from Office2007 with its space-hogging ribbons.
I would like to know whether Mint or another Linux-beginners distro can be configured with its taskbar equivalent down the side, or is the narrower horizontal taskbar just not a problem with Linux?
