Default Great Source for Free Games

Hey guys. I came across this incredible thread where the writer, Megazell, clearly puts a ton of effort into it.

At this point in time there is over 1700 free games that he has listed/reviewed.

Hope it will be of some use for some.

Enjoy!

Followed all the links and tried to download one game. Just got the usual runaround about joining this and that with no actual download without joining something. Gave up. Will stick to paid for stuff where you get what you pay for.

I agree to an extent.

I haven't downloaded any from this list as of yet, but I came across it whilst doing a search for Red Alert, which I recently found out had become free, and thought it would be of some use to those that follow free games.

I've never tried free games so was/am unaware of the processes you may/may not have to go through before actually having access to the game itself.

I personally, like you, stick to paid for games, with Red Alert being the first free one I will have played (and even that is an original pay for game).

Red Alert has been free for about 3 years now. I found this link a great resource for finding free games.

For old dos games look here: http://www.abandonia.com/en/game/all...tby%3D0?page=1

Haha, yes I know. I only found out the other day though when I decided I was in the mood for some classic games. Wish I'd found out sooner.

I could never get past the spy level, so hopefully now I can do so

Wow an amazing list....! Should be the greatest list of all freeware games around the web. For 2 years this list is updated and even one came up yesterday too.

I loved their posting rules
Quote:
1) Games must be 100% free and legal.

2) No Extra Software!

That means no spyware! No hidden virus! No HTML redirectors! Some games may require a lobby program like STEAM, MTX, Battlenet or others. These programs are the only exception.

3) Games must be easy to run!

You can find a wealth of freeware games that will require use of a third party program or shareware programs or editing of files and so on. Many of those games are awesome. For the nature of my list, the games posted MUST be easy to install, click and play!
Also every game you find here, is clean!

Quote:
Red = Dead Games. These games are no longer available.
Lime = Megazell's Top Pick
Underlined = Cooperative gameplay aka CO-OP
Italic = Browser Based Game - No Heavy Download Required

Games are organized in Alphabetical Order With The Following Categories: 2D, 3D, Single Player Only, Multiplayer Only and Single Player & Multiplayer.
The way that they have categorized it is also amazing. Also they have highlighed dead from active games. Truely remarkable...

The fighting section is full of Mugen. No complaints here, I'm a long time Mugen fan and I've even made some random games for my own enjoyment.

My current Mugen reaches the grand old size of 4 gigs. It has 300+ characters and random stages I threw in there.

The fact that there is no Mugen for linux anymore hurts. Mugen is basically an open sourced engine and I want to be able to carry my pointless fighting games around with me.

Elecbyte has repeatedly announced that they aren't working on anymore linux versions. And their brand new Mugen 1.0 is amazing. It's so incredibly sad that they won't share the love.

Ok, that's enough of that. The list is awesome. Most of those games are fan made, which is why they're free and I have no gripes with that. I believe that every person should be a producer, not a consumer. And with producers like this, you can't go wrong. I used to dream about designing games myself and it's only because of my own life's constraints that I was never able to achieve that.

I think it would been nice to see Themanaworld in the 2d RPG section. So the list is incomplete. I want to see a list of completely free MMORPGs one day. I mean totally free, and without the need for buying anything. Most MMOs are free on the surface and then begin to ring you dry with in-game costs.

I'm glad this list was brought to my attention. That's why I love this site so much.
