Hey guys. I came across this incredible thread where the writer, Megazell, clearly puts a ton of effort into it.
At this point in time there is over 1700 free games that he has listed/reviewed. Hope it will be of some use for some. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/...d.php?t=244468 Enjoy! Last edited by rikishi19; 13. May 2011 at 03:18 AM. Reason: Typo! |

Followed all the links and tried to download one game. Just got the usual runaround about joining this and that with no actual download without joining something. Gave up. Will stick to paid for stuff where you get what you pay for.

I haven't downloaded any from this list as of yet, but I came across it whilst doing a search for Red Alert, which I recently found out had become free, and thought it would be of some use to those that follow free games. I've never tried free games so was/am unaware of the processes you may/may not have to go through before actually having access to the game itself. I personally, like you, stick to paid for games, with Red Alert being the first free one I will have played (and even that is an original pay for game). |

Red Alert has been free for about 3 years now. I found this link a great resource for finding free games.

Wow an amazing list....! Should be the greatest list of all freeware games around the web. For 2 years this list is updated and even one came up yesterday too.

The fighting section is full of Mugen. No complaints here, I'm a long time Mugen fan and I've even made some random games for my own enjoyment.
My current Mugen reaches the grand old size of 4 gigs. It has 300+ characters and random stages I threw in there. The fact that there is no Mugen for linux anymore hurts. Mugen is basically an open sourced engine and I want to be able to carry my pointless fighting games around with me. Elecbyte has repeatedly announced that they aren't working on anymore linux versions. And their brand new Mugen 1.0 is amazing. It's so incredibly sad that they won't share the love. Ok, that's enough of that. The list is awesome. Most of those games are fan made, which is why they're free and I have no gripes with that. I believe that every person should be a producer, not a consumer. And with producers like this, you can't go wrong. I used to dream about designing games myself and it's only because of my own life's constraints that I was never able to achieve that. I think it would been nice to see Themanaworld in the 2d RPG section. So the list is incomplete. I want to see a list of completely free MMORPGs one day. I mean totally free, and without the need for buying anything. Most MMOs are free on the surface and then begin to ring you dry with in-game costs. I'm glad this list was brought to my attention. That's why I love this site so much. |
