The all new Gizmo’s Freeware Site

The all new Gizmo’s Freeware site: Gizmo’s Best
Thank you for your many comments on closing our old site and the encouraging words to keep the community alive.

The New Site

You are looking at it. Gizmo’s Best is the successor to Gizmo’s Freeware. The URL will stay the same: https://www.techsupportalert.com .

Over the last weeks we have worked hard building a completely new site. We specifically decided not to upgrade or further patch the old environment due to its outdated technology and content. While we lose the good ole look and feel by doing so, we are convinced that this approach has many advantages and prepares us better for future developments.

By the way, here is a bit about the history of Gizmo’s Freeware…

The Content

Our goal remains the same, to help you find the best freeware products and services for your particular needs. We migrated the most popular content from the old site but also started to add new topics hoping to serve returning visitors as well as new ones.

We went online with the new site in August 2021 when not all content we planned was done yet. But we could not wait any longer for the launch, and we did not want to let you wait any longer either.

Let us know if you are missing particular content from the old site by contacting us here.

The Design

Our new content management system offers new and modern ways to display, sort and search content. It took us a bit to fine tune it to its current state. It is probably not perfect yet but we like it a lot already. If you find glitches or things that do not work, let us know via our contact page.

How You Can Help

All the technology to run this site cost money. In the past, many of you donated to us to keep our expenses low. We thank you very much for that and encourage you to continue with your support via our Donation page.

If you like to contribute to our content as an editor, you are very much welcome. Contact us here about it and we will set things up.

Enjoy

Enough said. Before you browse away and enjoy the new site, leave a comment about Gizmo’s Best below if you like.

Best regards,
Your Gizmo’s Best Team

Gizmo’s Best is the successor of Gizmo’s Freeware, a non-commercial community website staffed entirely by volunteers. Run by morons for morons.

    By morons for morons?

      LOL 🙂
That part was from a section of the legacy site. I kinda liked it. We mean no offense by it.
      Best regards,
      George

I’ll volunteer to be the ‘site moron’.

I just typed in the site, I figured I would get a Error 404, then the site came up! I was floored, I said new look, but the link worked!.
I am so thankful you guys have resurrected the site. It will take a little while to get use to the new look, but with change sometimes that can be a good thing. I am eager to go back to using this site on a daily basis.

It was heart breaking news when the site shut down, I felt dismayed since I was avid user of the site.

Thanks to all the hard work, and I’m so glad the website is back. 🙂

I think I know exactly how you felt. Out of sheer frustration (while trying to find software or an app to resolve my faded receipt debacle) I typed in “techsupportalert.com” expecting it to not work but praying that it would. Pleasantly surprised and extremely thankful and relieved to find site back.

I would like to express gratitude and appreciation for the volunteers that have kept this site going.

horrid. I can’t find a list of the best anti virus anymore. I can’t find a listing of the best freeware by category. I’ve been a user of this sight for years and years and now it’s unusable.

      Hi Bill,
we are sorry that we have not made you happy yet. Indeed, a few things are done differently now for several reasons. The new site was built from scratch and some of the old could just not be simply copied.
We are working on improvements though and therefore, thanks for your comment.
Btw. you can find our current categories on the right. A click on one will show you our articles in that area.
      Best regards,
      Your Gizmo Team

I can’t find a defragger anywhere. Used to use Auslogics until they stopped supporting the free version. Now I get “blocked by the administrator”.

      Hi Amanda,
I just checked their website and it says “Yes, Auslogics Disk Defrag Free is absolutely free for home and commercial use.”
The message get seems more to be related to your computer, e.g. a Windows policy.
      Best regards,
      George

So it looks like most or all of the old content has been deleted. I’ve gotten so much value from Gizmo’s over the years and I had saved over 150 links for reference, but it looks like they all error out with a 404. I guess I’ll have to find those pages on archive.org. What a pain…

Randomly scanning sections of the new site makes it look like most of the reviews are for games. I guess it’s time to move on.

      Hi STVIV,
correct, the new site is quite different. When we decided to invest in the relaunch we had to change several things for technical and commercial reasons. We have made several improvements since then but we ar aware that we cannot meet everybody’s expectations.
We took over and updated the most popular 1000 articles from the old site before we added new stuff. Maybe you can find what you need in the Gizmos Best List on the right.
      Best regards,
      George
