Easily insert text snippets in any application that supports copy and paste.
Text expanders eliminate repetitive typing by using abbreviations to expand snippets of text or phrases and insert them into any program that supports copy and paste.
Create an abbreviation for a snippet of text and every time you type the abbreviation in a text area where copy/paste is supported your expanded text will appear. If you use eml for your email address, typing eml inserts your whole email address. There’s a whole range of useful text and phrases, from small things like phone numbers and addresses to automated responses or long blocks of text that are often used in medical or legal professions.
aText is a free program that was a Mac application for years before being developed for Windows. It’s lightweight and is easy to use, and it comes with some preset combinations you can use. It’s basic enough to use if you want to use a small amount of entries and has enough features for people who use text expanders extensively.
Some notable features are the ability to add dictionaries for several languages, change the color scheme, choose from light or dark themes, import and export settings, and choose what applications to use with aText.
The premium version adds password protection and syncs with online platforms such as Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive.
aText runs on Windows 10 and 7 (On Windows 7, .NET 4.6 or newer is required) and is free of malware according to VirusTotal.
