Transfer Files Between Devices With No Hassle 4 years 9 months ago lastsaves

Hi, it definitely works, at least between Win7 and Android.
However, I am trying to resolve one problem. From Android 4.4. Kitkat, apps are not able to access external SD card in general, only the folder they themselves created (and it has to be located in Android/Data/ folder). While Dukto does not create any such folder, it is possible to create it manually. but it has to have specific name. Does anyone know how to name this folder to get it work with external SD card? I tried to contact the developer, but he said he has no idea :(

yeah...nah...
Really need one of those apps that mines the phone for all the user data so you don't have to search for it all through system folders. Would really like to select between images/vids/contact/mssgs/bookmarks etc. All userdata.
There is yet another shifty dishonest programme that you don't see is severely limited in its capabilities in the 'trial version' called something like {commercial app edited out by moderator}. That would have done the trick. haven't so far been able to locate anything free that does the job. Can anyone else?
this is just a connection to pc.

Wow! Excellent post, Rhiannon! I plan to use these sites. It's great to have options like these for transferring big files and not have to deal with the absurdly low email attachment limits imposed by email service providers like Google, MSN and Yahoo. Rhiannon, I generally enjoy your posts, but I think this one is definitely one of your best. Thanks!!

Also, If you have an Outlook/Hotmail account and try to attach a too-large file, you are directed to upload the file to One Drive. The recipient is sent a link very much like an attachment, but it directs them to a page where the file can be downloaded.

That's one of the reasons I looked for sites other than the well known services like Google Drive and One Drive, Dropbox, etc. :)

Anyone can use these four with no account. All you need is a file you want to send, a 'send to' email address, and a 'send from' email address.

So many things already old in this review. Transmission-qt is found on the official page. RAM and -CPUwise is better than the other more popular. Diskwise is 26M, qbt is same and Tixati surpasses 50M easily, Last one is true though: I do not need the bells and whistles.A breeze to use and a beauty to behold.

TrueCrypt Is Dead. Long Live VeraCrypt! 4 years 10 months ago crosseyedlemon

Good article Rob. An encryption utility is one worth having even if you don't feel your personal data is as valuable as some of 007s secrets. TrueCrypt shut down shortly after an audit was conducted on it so as you stated there are various rumors about what was really going on there. Fortunately VeraCrypt provides a good alternative.

view
TrueCrypt Is Dead. Long Live VeraCrypt! 4 years 10 months ago oblivion Another nice feature is that VeraCrypt can open and work with containers created with TrueCrypt (6 or 7) or migrate TrueCrypt containers to VeraCrypt. I did exactly that a few months ago and have been using VeraCrypt successfully ever since. It's an excellent product. view
TrueCrypt Is Dead. Long Live VeraCrypt! 4 years 10 months ago MoisheP

The audit turned up no backdoor in TrueCrypt, but I have yet to see an independent audit of VeraCrypt. Until then, I'd be a bit wary at trusting VeraCrypt.

view

Too bad VeraCrypt does not yet support system encryption with UEFI boot. Apparently there's no experts on UEFI willing to contribute to this open source project. Support for UEFI has been on VeraCrypt developers' to do list for over a year now, but not much progress.

The rumor I heard about truecrypt was they shut down rather than cave to federal pressure to provide a backdoor to their software. One of their selling points was that not even the USA Feds could crack their vaults. Now you seem to be saying something different. While I'm wondering if the veracrypt is a truecrypt compromise and provides the backdoor the Feds insisted upon? See, where I got that rumor was here on the to gonzo web site. Now you seem to be saying that truecrypt did have a backdoor and veracrypt does not. Confuses me. I still have an truecrypt.exe and I'm thinking I'm safer with it - not because I have something to hide from the Feds but if they have the backdoor key, what stops some other hacker
outfit from getting it?

"No one quite knows why, but rumours persist that the developers were formally discouraged from maintaining something that could allow law enforcement agencies to intercept information. "
Don't you mean that the developers were formally discouraged from maintaining something that could effectively block law enforcement agencies from accessing the information?

In any event Truecrypt 7.1a may still be safe to use - see http://www.howtogeek.com/203708/3-alternatives-to-the-now-defunct-truecrypt-for-your-encryption-needs/ it has more info on Veracrypt as well which users should be aware of before using the program.

Looks like fun, but only designed for Google Chrome browser, which I don't use. The interface is not the same in either Firefox or IE so doesn't have the appearance or functionality that you see in the tutorial. Disappointed; this is one reason I'm not fond of web-based apps anyway.

I will never use Google as a a BROWSER or even Google Draw. Think of it like this. You are working on an idea and then you find out your idea was used by another group or person. Would you ever trust them again.
I have gmail and Google+, but only because of those I associate with have accounts there.
If it was up to me then NSA and Facebook along with Google could just keep sleeping with each other, but leave me out.
Good idea for this program, but who else is copying your work.

Try This Alternative File Manager And Explorer For Windows. It's Free. 6 years 2 months ago Crapton

XYPlorer has been out there for years and is hardly new, in fact it is old school interface design.

On Windows 8.1 use Clover and for Windows 7 try BetterExplorer for more up to date file managers.

view
Try This Alternative File Manager And Explorer For Windows. It's Free. 6 years 2 months ago rob.schifreen A lot of us like the old-school design. I note that the author of Clover, on his web site, says that he will not be making the program open-source because the code is "hastily written" and has "a lot of problems". For this reason, I would not recommend it. As for Better Explorer, my antivirus program blocks its website because of suspected malware. Again, I therefore don't recommend using it. view

Try This Alternative File Manager And Explorer For Windows. It's Free. 6 years 2 months ago bernardz I have used XYPlorer for years, but I decided to take a look at Better Explorer. It's no where near the class of XYPlorer. While running it, I also got an error making me think it is not properly debugged yet although that may be unfair. As far as the look and feel are concerned, if you download a copy of the latest version XYPlorer, you will see they have updated their look. view

XYplorer is a good (two pane) file explorer with all the features you can imagine.
But...
I don't understand at all why the author does NOT want to add the feature to browse zip/rar files as if they were just another directory.
Something that Speedcommander, MultiCommander, FreeCommander, Total Commander,... do so conveniently.
For me, this is the main reason why I decided not to use XYplorer.

view
Try This Alternative File Manager And Explorer For Windows. It's Free. 6 years 2 months ago michaelbeijer

I have tried Clover and BetterExplorer and while they are nice for basic stuff, XYplorer really is in a league of its own. Also, a file manager isn’t really a file manager unless it supports dual-pane mode. Tabs are cool , but not enough.

Re: Geert’s comment about XYplorer’s inability to browse zip/rar files as if they were just another directory: I don’t really mind as I just use WinRAR for that.

In the interest of full disclosure: I own a so-called ‘XYplorer Lifetime Licence’.

As long as we're posting our file manager preferences, I opt for Xplorer², which also has paid and free versions available. Its highly configurable and the ability to change panel colors for high visibility is a big plus for me, as is the ability to preview live links. The site, including the freeware "lite" version, is located at: http://zabkat.com/. Full disclosure, I have a lifetime license.

I usually try out various file explorer software but I always come back to Xplorer2 Lite (www.zabkat.com) Its very fast, supports dual pane, and even the lite has many features. You will often see offers to get the pro version at very reduced cost if you wanted to upgrade. But even the free lite version really is more than sufficient for everyday use. Its rock solid, and fully documented.

Multiple panes is a feature that, after you get to use it, you wonder how you got along without it. I used XYPlorer in my Windows days and it's great. (Now I use Nemo on Linux Mint, or Dolphin on openSuSE.)

view
Try This Alternative File Manager And Explorer For Windows. It's Free. 6 years 2 months ago crombierob

If one browses this site, you will find that I have been the biggest advocate of XYPlorer, for a long time.
I have been known to stop people in the street, and tell them that it is the best in the known universe.

I still believe that, however I recently retried Explorer++ and I am liking that as well.
If they were sending me to Mars, and I was only allowed one File Manager, it would be XYPlorer.
However if you get into the habit of using portable File Managers (different folders for different categories), then ++ is a nice addition. If you leave the grid on (horizontal Lines), then even when 'tired' you can distinguish them from each other (I'll drink to that).

Rob
PS Not a fan of dual panes, but my sensei tells me to be tolerant of those with strange (old) habits.
