Regarding the "Best Free Apps Protection for Android"
I recommend APP Lock by DoMobile Lab. Has excellent reviews on Google Play
I have installed and used it on Samsung Note 2, and it is a rock solid stable app to lock any or all apps you chose
I have no affiliation with this program

May I suggest to add Viber to the Best Free Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for Android list? I know it had some ups and downs along the time, but the newer versions have improved the voice quality a lot and they have finally launched the desktop app that works pretty well too.

Best Free Android Apps - Updated 2020 7 years 3 months ago Jojo Yee Certainly yes Av_Crazy, you have been one of the great contributors to recommending good apps including this list. And yes the Holo theme design introduced since Android 4.0 ICS is a good trend for better cohesion between all apps on the Android OS and I believe more apps will adapt to it soon. I'll look into those that you've specifically recommended. The Evernote icon has now been fixed. view

I have not seen any reference to Android Lost
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlost

It's the best, most simple, cool featured security app I have seen.

Not only can I lock my phone remotely (from pc or other phone), I can remotely unlock it, erase data, send it a message, make it sound a loud siren, have it take a picture, have it display a message like "low battery warning" when the OK is pressed it snaps a picture and sends it to me... If stolen, I now have a photo of the bad guy/gal and also can get the GPS co-ordinates...

Lots of other features too, very useful, very simple app. I just love it. Best security app I found.

Highly recommend the game for Android called 'Bottle Crash'
Have had the app on my Note 2 for 3 months, with no problems
The best thing about this game is that the advertisements are not obvious
Many bottles flying up on the screen, and you throw ninja weapons.
Watch out for the bombs that are also thrown in front of you
Highly recommended as a test of concentration
I have no affiliation with this game

many thanks for all involved in the website - it's been a lifesaver for finding good freeware and now it's come in handy again as I get onto android (late, admittedly).

I've built up a good list of apps to add to my new device, but I did notice you're missing one important category - kid's education!

Most people seem to get tablets for kid's educational purposes, and a quick browse on Google Play indicates many many different apps for maths, language and other skills.

We're looking for good apps for kids from 3-6, so if you or others can recommend any particularly good educational apps for them it would be much appreciated.

I recently bought a Nexus 7.... I've never been crazy about the ipad and its dependence on itunes for any movies... also the ridicuously high price for an ipad here in Australia... $350 to $750 depending on the size.

Very happy so far with the Nexus 7 but I don't seem to be able to find "Adobe Flash Player" for it.
....apparently discontinued for the latest Android.

Do any of you have an alternative replacement for it ?

Just downloaded an archived version of Adobe Flash but after reading a little more on various forums, I've decided to hold back on installing until I can be sure that it wont stuff up Nexus 7.

I have the latest version of Android which I believe is KitKat.... too many comments advising against making Flash work with it.

The only other advice I've found is to use the Dolphin Browser but I'm reluctant to part with Chrome.

In the meantime, I'll do a little more homework on the subject.

view
Best Free Android Apps - Updated 2020 6 years 8 months ago terrawarra

I finally downloaded and installed the Dolphin browser and a "hacked-for- kitkat" version of Adobe Flash Player.

It's working like a charm on my Nexus 7 and I'm starting to actually like the "Dolphin" browser. Not as as slick as Chrome but I sure do like the easy access to bookmarks simply by swiping left to right !

Hello,

I am trying to fix an issue with a Sony Tablet S

Fortunately it has been rooted as I need to recover some deleted files from it.

My friends partner decided to 'play' with it.

Can you recommend a Freeware program to recover photos, contacts, messages, videos etc?

There are paid versions but I would rather not fork out any cash :-)

A compelling list, no doubt about it. Thank you for making it.

Two comments:

1. The ZArchiver icon has changed to a new one, update it please.

2. I would like to recommend a very small file manager called 'Fo File Manager' https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.seazon.fo It's a 330Kb download and shows the file attributes of any APK files you have, including the minimum version required. It also displays image files while showing their width and height. No ads, light and fast even on my old 800mhz phone running android 2.3.6.

I have found "Clean Music Player" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myskyspark.music)
It thankfully has no advertisements whatsoever, nor adware

I have been a member here for over 3 years, and have no affiliations to any developers.
I am concerned there is not enough disclosure on TechSupportAlert of whether recommended smartphone apps request permission to download full screen advertisements to the phone. Free apps are increasingly becoming this intrusive, as well as potentially leading to freezing of smartphones. My phone has recently become almost unusable due to full screen ads, including when I was videoing at someones wedding !

Unlike the Windows section, there is no disclosure of which apps are the most intrusive, in terms of adware, monitoring of user activities, phoning home, and potential for access to contact lists etc when this is not relevant to the app. I am finding it almost impossible to find Android apps that dont want to track me, use adware, or access more of my phone than it necessary. Are there any apps anymore that DONT do these things ??

No internet permission, so no streaming or downloading, but great for local audio files

Horrible choice for Nots. Evernote requires a sign on. It was over 40 MB , not 11. Bloated spyware !

Can I please just mention that both links to the Malware download sites, in this article, are both broken at the moment (being 30 Mar 2013).

It is of course available on Softpedia
(http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware.shtml)

(I hope I was allowed to post that link?)

:)

PS This is the BEST site, the absolute best site, for just about anything & everything I could ever need in my computer's and/or my life! The information is always correct & well sourced. If I follow the reviews, recommendations & instructions on this site, I am guaranteed to be one very happy customer. Thank you all for all your hard work :)

Best Free Adware-Spyware-Scumware Remover 7 years 7 months ago MidnightCowboy This might give more options for the OP to try. http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/malwarebytes.org.html Another possibility of course is the computer might be infected. MC - Site Manager. view

I trust Gizmo's suggestion and I use this site for software recommendation ... BUT, I am WARNING all of you people NOT to install "SPYBOT" ... simply put, it is a Piece of CRAP software.

I am amazed how the heck Gizmo, TechSupportAlert, has given these guys a 5-Star.

After installing this Crap ... my laptop was not the same ... I wanted to use this S**T for on-demand Scanner ... and it would NOT let me set it up as such.

So, I uninstalled it using Revo-Unistaller 1.95 Freeware ... heck even Revo had a hard time unistalling it ... SPYBOT (as it's name says it is a SPY ... might as well as treat it as a TROJAN).

After uninstalling ... I guess it is uninstalled ... my Firefox and Chrome slow as dickens ... almost DEAD. Laptop Re-Starts goes into "REPAIR" mode ... Why!?!?

This SPYBOT SUCKS a BIG ONE. HORRIBLE INTRUSIVE Software.

Best Free Adware-Spyware-Scumware Remover 6 years 11 months ago joeguru Gonwk thank you for your feedback. It's unfortunate when a user has a poor experience with a software, and having such experiences myself with other programs I can certainly understand. I recommend you contact Spybot regarding your concerns with their software and let them know you used Revo, that may have influenced your experience. Regarding our review and ranking please note under the 5 star rating, one of the cons of this program is "does not uninstall cleanly". This is not to say it will negatively impact your computer, rather you will need to use a cleaner like 360Amigo or Ccleaner to remove the trace files left from the uninstall. When I did the uninstall I used Windows 7 control panel. If you would like further feedback on this topic, please post a thread in our Freeware Forum. Thank you. view

Good Day! I hope you're enjoying a pleasant one. I like your article. It's concise, clear, and helpful except for one small sentance. Is the following a typo, or reference to a program I should also evaluate: In the text about Spywareblaster -> "Spywareblock is the only program reviewed to recommend this step." ...did you mean to write "Spywareblaster" rather than "Spywareblock"?

I believe I'm going to try Spywareblaster first. I hate bulging, intrusive, resource hogging applications that slow down my system and/or annoy me with various notifications and/or sales pitches. My second evaluation will be Malwarebytes.

Let me just add that I don't run any anti-virus software or any other malware, spyware software. I don't have malware protection clicked "on" in my browser (Chrome)... I haven't used any of that junk for as long as I can remember... many years... over a decade... or at least as long as I've been using WinPatrol Plus. I'm a heavy internet user... but No Gaming or anything like that...

WinPatrolPlus by design, blocks and notifies me regarding anything that tries to make Any "system" changes without my permission. I've had no invasions of any kind. Maybe it's just that I'm Lucky... but I don't even use a Firewall. I have had No Issues Whatsoever. I'm now networking my girlfriends Acer Netbook with mine and thought that maybe a little extra protection would be warranted. Although, like I said, if it eats resources of any kind, or annoys me in any way, I'm kickin' it outta here! I believe the secret to a healthy computer, and one that lasts and doesn't get rapidly Downgraded, is to keep one's system Clean and Lean. Enjoy Everything! ~ John B. Owego, NY

As far as I've seen, independent testing of Spybot has been abysmal. As just one example, PC Magazine concluded, "In testing, it proved almost 100 percent ineffective."

Best Free Adware-Spyware-Scumware Remover 6 years 11 months ago joeguru Thank you for your comments. I respectfully disagree. The article you quoted was a year old and based on other information at PCMag seemed bias. They don't consider free anti-malware programs effective anymore, so Spybot isn't the only one they have a problem with. Also according to CNET and Softpedia users it's ranked 4/5. Techspot ranked it 4.5/5 in a review dated Nov 2013. There are others. One reason I ranked it so well was in my testing it was the only program that provided real-time protection for free and did a comparable job of removing malware. If you wish to continue the discussion regarding the effectiveness of Spybot or other free anti-malware products, please post a thread in the Freeware Forum. view

I Use Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware, for On demand scanning and for "Live" protection yes I use SpywareBlastor as well as Spybot in conjunction with Spyware Terminator.

So I think you can see I defiantly enjoyed the article.......However

I was just wondering if there are any reasons why Spyware Terminator was not mentioned.

view
Best Free Adware-Spyware-Scumware Remover 6 years 11 months ago MidnightCowboy Spyware Terminator changed owners a while back. The free version is now crippled and the new owners have a reputation for scam products. This is why their website is red rated by WOT (Web Of Trust). Gizmo's Freeware does not feature products in reviews unless their WOT rating is green. MC - Site Manager. http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/pcrx.com?utm_source=addon&utm_content=... view

Wow......well that is certainly an answer.....MC!

If you was to see my computer system.......in all departments you would see a definite pattern of software that is also listed in the relevant sections of Gizmo. Some were a coincidence, as in I had them already or knew about them, and some were defiantly installed after me researching in depth.......including here at the excellent Gizmo Freeware site.

All thou not all my choices are number one at Gizmo, they are at the very least mentioned. This is why I was curious about Spyware Terminator and Gizmo. At the very least I thought our brains where in sync lol.

I shall now do some more research concerning Spyware Terminator, and look for a possible alternative if need be.

I tend to keep my Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware packages separate, but now during some planned research as mentioned above, I shall look into suites as well. Not complete suites such as firewall inclusive, just Anti Virus & Anti Spyware inclusive.

Thanks for you reply and explanation Midnight Cowboy....I believe Gizmo & My computer are now back in sync lol

Best Free Adware-Spyware-Scumware Remover 6 years 11 months ago MidnightCowboy You're welcome. :) All the top free antivirus programs are now broad spectrum so they contain antispyware elements too. I've not felt any need for an additional antispyware program running in real time. I use the free version of WinPatrol to guard against unwanted components such as toolbars that attempt to slip through during software installs and Malwarebytes which occasionally finds something more like adware than spyware which is not classified as malicious by my antivirus program.
