On this same product. What's the difference between 360 Mobile Security and 360 Mobile Safe? Both by the same company Mobile Safe appears to be free, the same scanning engine but lots of extra features like applock, private vault space etc. So are they one in the same as far as performance and detection and both free?

view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 8 months ago IO.Hazard 360 Mobile Security is an antimalware app with some extra basic tools. 360 Mobile Safe, on the other hand, is more like a "all-in-one" maintenance tool for Android. I tested it and it does what it promises in a good way. It is not a bad app, but if the only thing you're looking for is protection against malware, you'd better stick to 360 Mobile Security. I faced some problems when I tried to update Mobile Safe's malware definitions (the app tried to connect to the internet, but I received an "error" message instead) and its memory footprint while working in the background is about 15 MB, which is not that high, but it could be lower. 360 Mobile Security and 360 Mobile Safe coexist with each other with no problems, but I cannot make a statement about the latter's detection capabilities since I didn't perform an in-deep testing of 360 Mobile Safe; however, since it comes from the same company, I asume it must be the same (?). 360 Mobile Safe has a lot of potential and is still at an early stage (v1.0.0), so there's a lot of room for improvement but I wouldn't use it to replace 360 Mobile Security for the time being. view

Thanks very much for looking into this. I'll stick with 360 Mobile Security out of the two if I end up switching to one of those.

Thanks again!

There are 2 versions, 360 Mobile Security - Antivirus & 360 Mobile Safe - Antivirus + Anti-Theft.

Both are free. If you want Anti-Theft, try 360 Mobile Safe.

Just tried TrustGo after reading this. It has decent resource monitors and RAM optimizer, but the anti-theft features are almost non-existent and everything else is way too basic. It did not have a 'photograph the thief' feature, even though my phone has 2 cameras. The SIM-change activation consists of a tick box, no options or mention of how it will send an alert. The 'find my phone' feature could only disable the phone, trigger an alarm or wipe it. It frequently could not find the phone, even with good signals. The browsing privacy and scan features just run with no explanation or options (scan = 1 button, privacy = 1 tick-box), but if the reviews are correct they are reliable. Just far too minimal for something so important and definitely not for me. Found Avast a bit of a resource hog, but it has a lot more to offer.

Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 7 months ago kendall.a I have spent the last couple of days trying out 360 Mobile Safe. In short, I really like it! One thing, however, to keep in mind is that the anti-theft module does NOT work on a tablet. It requires a sim card. This product was ideally made for a phone, not a tablet. That's not to say that I didn't really like it on my tablet; because I did. It is the only AV that I've used on this tablet that did not drain my battery one iota. I charged my tablet overnight and then took it to work. After lunch I turned it on and it still said 100% battery. None of the previous AV's I have used have done that. Another feature I really liked was that it showed me all the downloaded apk files that I had installed previously but since had un-installed. I didn't realize that the apk files were still on my tablet. I deleted over a GB of old apk files that I no longer needed. The last feature I really liked is what I call a "boost" feature. It's essentially an icon on your screen that you can click and it will clear out your RAM (or close background applications). Lastly, if you know anything about wakelocks, Mobile Safe 360 did not have any wakelocks at all over 3 days. view

This is listed on "gf" but doesn't seem to be reviewed:

"VirusTotal *for Android* (492 KB) helps get your system and user apps in your device scanned by more than 40 antivirus vendors and flag any malicious apps. Tap a flagged app and you can view its detailed scan results from the vendors."

http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-android-apps.htm?page=0,6#Page...

Is this likely to happen soon?

P.S. Listing ones reviewed, but not recommended, is very useful. Thanks,

Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 7 months ago IO.Hazard Thanks for sharing your experiences regarding TrustGo. Truth is we re-evaluate the reviewed apps every once in a while to check its changelogs. If you read some of the comments below, you'll see TrustGo is facing some issues that cannot be ignored, therefore we will definetely consider all those flaws in the next update which should happen the next week. view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 7 months ago IO.Hazard Thanks for your kind words about this review. About VirusTotal, well, it is a very useful app, but it only detects potentially "malicious" APKs and it doesn't scan other kinds of threats in real-time. Additionally, it needs and active internet connection to do its job. All in all, it may be added in future updates, but we will give priority to the more versatile apps since this category is facing constant changes as new apps arrive and the old ones are getting updated faster than expected. 360 Mobile Security PERMISSIONS requested that I allow it to send emails (to my contacts?) without my knowing. Doesn't that bother anyone else?

view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 6 months ago IO.Hazard Larrychamp, Thanks for posting your thoughts about 360. Truth is this permission is new and was added in v1.6.5 on February 23rd. However, in order to be precise, the permission does not say "send e-mails"; it says "send messages". Now, coming back to the core of the matter, that permission is indeed a highly sensitive one, so I wrote an email to the guys at Qihoo regarding that matter but I haven't got a reply yet. For the time being, I must advice against updating to the 1.6.5 version. Installing 360 Mobile Safe is not an option, as it requires the same *fishy* permission. At this point, my recommendation would be to install other apps such as Comodo, Avast! or Sophos, at least until we get a response from Qihoo. view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 6 months ago ew

I was glad to see this comment because my own response to seeing the permissions currently requested by this app was identical -- am I the only one bothered by this?

Please read the current permissions. They also allow access to confidential information, and other alarming things.

I was going to install untilI read the permissions. I can't see giving them.

I am wondering whether agreeing to initial permissions when installing an app allows automatic assent to any additional permissions later added by the developer?

It is ironic that installing antivirus etc apps requires the high level of trust involved in giving blanket permissions to their developers. After reading the permissions requested by 360mobile,, I searched "is Qihoo really legitimate?". Though I take the results of quick internet searches with a grain of salt, the results were not reassurring.

I'd appreciate seeing comments from someone at Gizmos, thanks.

Just for the info,
Anti-Theft is now added in 360 Security.
Now I am confused with the company coz 2 softwares 360 Security & 360 Mobile Safe both have same features??

view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 6 months ago IO.Hazard You're definitely right. 360 mobile security and 360 mobile safe are almost identical. It is an odd move by Qihoo as it creates confusion amongst users. 360 software is moving in a strange direction and is raising some concerns regarding privacy, which is not good at all. Perhaps it is time for a serious update to the review. view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 6 months ago IO.Hazard Hi, Let me clear some things up: There is no such thing as a permission that allows automatic assent to any additional permissions that could be added later by the developers; that is a big lie. The PlayStore always shows the permissions list every time you attempt to install a new app. If you are updating an app and it has added new permissions, the PlayStore will show a "NEW" tag next to them, so you can know what they are for. If you don't like the new permissions, you can keep the old version and cancel the update or uninstall the app altogether. As for your search for 360 Mobile security, I found no harmful information and I saw that is recommended by a bunch of well-known sites. However, it is true that 360's apps should be more transparent and they could add a description of the permissions and what are they needed for, sadly they don't, so we are left alone trying to guess why are they needed and what exactly these permissions do. I had to write this long answer because the information you wrote about the permissions is not accurate. We don't want to confuse our readers nor provide them with misleading statements. If you have any additional questions or comments about this, please feel free to visit our forum. Thanks. view

Qihoo have recently done an update an in the What's New notes have provided a link to fully explain each of the permissions people have concerns over: http://goo.gl/3a2mCd I'm currently using Sophos but may end up switching to 360 eventually.

P.S. Also, I was looking at CM Security by KS Mobile https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.security which seems a very intriguing AV which also does well in the independant Av-Test.org results. Another one from China which has been around for awhile though it lacks anti-theft it's claims sound promising.

P.P.S. Has anyone else noticed the lack in web/facebook and twitter updates for Trustgo though they did update the app recently? Looks like everything's been left since the middle of last year but all still works and still performs well in the test results.

Installed 360 Mobile Security as it was recommended here but noticed it needed permissions that made me feel uncomfortable eg reading my emails and sending emails/texts but installed anyway as it had been recommended by Gizmo. Came back and read all these comments and decided to uninstall it whereupon my browser (Chrome) would only return results from ?baidoo in Chinese! Had to do a factory reset to fix it.

Downloaded TrustGo but this seemed to have similar permissions? Which security app can run without these sorts of permissions?

Many thanks for the updated review! Something I always look forward to reading.

I downloaded and running CM Security which I find is a great product. I use it in combination with Mr. Number for blocking Calls and texts and AppLock to protect uninstallation, Settings and PlayStore and seems to all be working seamlessly. CM Security will be having an anti-theft which simply integrates with your Android Device Manager. It's currently in beta.

On a similar note. Comodo Mobile security since version 3.4.5 released 02nd March does act as Device Administrator and there were a large number of fixes to the Optimizer (Cache cleaner/task killer). CMS's built-in App Locker under the Private Space now allows you to lock CMS itself along with settings/playstore and any other app you choose. I'd use it myself but my phone has a very low resolution and therefore not fully compatible but I downloaded via the forum download and can confirm all the features work though it's not scanning my full SD Card on my device only scanning SDcard0 and not the External Card.

I did try Malwarebytes and may come back to it when it develops further.

Thanks again for reviewing these products!

Well, 360 security do include anti-theft option. And according to AV-test in March 2014 the 360 security's protection is given full rating.

Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 5 months ago danbest82

For me, CM security uses a lot of RAM all the time(runs 2 processes) and quite a bit of CPU when receiving SMS (what I noticed anyway). Unfortunately my phone isn't super high end and can't afford extra use of resources. Just figured I'd let people know so they are prepared. If others have better luck, let me know.

view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 5 months ago IO.Hazard If you've read the intro, you should have noticed we don't consider the anti-theft as 'a must', and we explained why. We never said 360 was a bad app. Its only problem is it includes too many permissions, even for a security app. Its installation size has grown too, as it includes more features than previous versions, which is not bad, but could be too much for users who only want anti-malware protection. view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 5 months ago IO.Hazard The only time CM Security opens a second process is while downloading definitions updates. The rest of the time it only uses a single process, even with the 'safe browsing' option enabled. Have you installed another anti-malware app besides CMS? That could create some conflicts and cause your RAM usage to increase a lot. You don't need a high end phone to run CMS. I've seen it running on 'old' phones with Android 4.0.4 and 512MB of RAM. However, if you are using JellyBean 4.1 or up, things can be totally different as the OS consumes a lot of RAM itself, leaving too little for third party apps. JellyBean needs a device with 768MB of RAM at least to run decently, according to Google. Sadly, many manufacturers make devices with 512MB of RAM with JellyBean installed on them. That's their a way to create 'low-budget' phones which, in the end, won't perform as good as you would like to. **MAY 9th UPDATE** CM's latest version has confirmed our previous concern. Its RAM usage has increased more than twice, and enabling the bundled Anti-theft only makes it worse. Will the next update fix that? We sincerely hope so. view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 4 months ago rickybobby

Spy probably meant the newest version of 360MS now includes an anti-theft component. I read the intro and the explanation about the anti-theft seems logical.

Nonetheless, removing 360MS from the top was a surprise to me, as it worked like charm for me. I read the comments below as well as some posts in the forum that attack the app with no reason, basing their comments on problems some users had with old DESKTOP versions of 360. I read the permissions and they look legit for me, especially when you consider the things 360MS can do.

The size of this app has increased, that's true, but I keep using it and has protected me from various kinds of malware since I installed it based on your initial suggestion. I know creating lists like this demand time and effort, and I thank you for that, but next time try following your knowledge and expertise instead of listening to trolls or people who like to bash products they don't like. CMSecurity looks good and I will give it a try, eventually, maybe when I get tired of my current security app.

Anyway, you deserve cheers for a job well done. Thank you.

I had that issue with TrustGO months ago. The weird thing is no other app detected the same, even after a scan with VirusTotal. However, VirusTotal did detect a pair of ad-ware based apps that TrustGo had no idea of :P.

I decided to test CM and it was fine until the last update. Guess what? The memory footprint has skyrocketed! I'm talking about 80 MB of RAM. What gives? I disabled the anti theft and it went down to 45 MB, but I found it too high anyway, so I uninstalled it.

Companies think all of us have phones with 2GB or more of RAM. I'm not buying that scheme. I can live far better by installing other free apps that are not so demanding.

view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 4 months ago IO.Hazard Thanks for pointing that up. I noticed that increase in CM's RAM usage too. Not good. I will wait to see if this is a just a temporary thing (bug?) or a definitive major change. Anyway, I don't see any advantage in using the included anti-theft as it increases the RAM usage levels and does not provide any major benefit than Google's device locator. view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 4 months ago IO.Hazard Hi, CM security was updated yesterday to v1.3.1. The app itself is still good, but the RAM usage levels have skyrocketed as some users below reported weeks ago. We were hoping a new version to confirm if that increase was due to a bug or something similar, sadly that's not the case. In normal mode (one single process on the background) the RAM levels were within the 38 to 45 MB range. Add about 10 MB to that while updating (2nd process) but if you enable the Anti-theft the picture gets worse... 70 to 90 MB of RAM! I never used an app with such a high demand for RAM. Not good at all. I'm looking for alternatives for the next review, as CM Security cannot be considered a top app nor user-friendly with those high RAM requirements. I just opened a new thread in our forum regarding this issue. Feel free to post your comments and thoughts about this. Your feedback would help a lot. view
Best Free Antivirus App for Android 6 years 4 months ago IO.Hazard Many thanks for your early warning. Perhaps the program needs some reevaluating and the readers of your great site warned for the double standards of this company ! !

I was so glad when I found Dr. Web Antivirus Light. I didn't want remote wipe/lock or any of that - just the anti-malware. I have been using this for over a year now and, along with common sense, haven't had any issues. Additionally, on a 3.5 year old phone with 2GB Ram, there was no slowdown, and per GSam Battery monitor, it uses less than almost any other app, barely 0.1% of battery life. If you just want a solid real-time and on-demand scanner, it's really one of the only options but thankfully it's a good one too

There is now a new reason to browse anonymously: dynamic pricing! More people are telling me that when shopping on-line, if they show a lot of interest in a product, the price goes up! If you encounter dynamic pricing, then you might want to do your comparison shopping anonymously and only expose yourself when you are ready to make the actual purchase. It would not surprise me at all if web sites are checking the price that you were quoted at a competing site.

"Services like HideMy*** can be seen as trustworthy, as they have a good track record in the business of anonymisation and proxies."

That is completely false. They aid authorities in your arrest if they dislike what you did "anonymously". Read this: theatlanticwire.com/technology/2011/09/lulzsec-hacker-exposed-service-he-thought-would-hide-him/42895/

No matter the rationalization HideMyAss uses, this comment sums it up: "If hidemyass turns their users in and logs them for every access, then hidemyass is not 100% anonymous as they claim."

Even so, I am not going to dodge my responsibility because it is still up there, and I am now here. I read the article. News articles about controversial subjects are seldom unbiased. Am I correct in assuming that your disagreement is with the claim in regard to HideMy*** only, or are you claiming more broadly in general that VPN services should not be trusted ipso facto? The distinction is important. If this VPN service kept logs above and beyond those required by law and then handed them over to legal authorities promiscuously because it was convenient, that would be a violation of "trust", not an exemplary exercise of it such as we should expect of a service alleging to be supportive of anonymity. Can you provide me with any other factual evidence substantiating your claim that HideMy*** is not in this sense trustworthy? I would like to see more information about this incident or something else about this company along these lines. Thanks. view

Best Free Anonymous Surfing Services 7 years 6 months ago gen-X Hi, Juxxize. I feel your pain! You're not alone, even when it seems that way. I'm not sure what you use for anonymity when browsing, but if you have a fast connection to begin with, you should be able to maintain a goodly amount of anonymity without compromising your experience all that much. Anonymity is not an all or nothing condition. It is relative. Acquiring it requires not just changing one or another software programs, but in changing your mindset. You have to change habits, settings and behavior. You have to start thinking about it in all that you do, asking yourself about how you might be revealing traces of your identity and activity in ways that you prefer to avoid. The primary means by which others learn about you is through your browser and your browsing activities. Focus on it at first and continually. Ask questions about it here and other places where the subject of anonymity is discussed. It is not as restrictive as it might seem. For starters, one thing to keep in mind is that you should avoid doing things that allow you to be partitioned. You want rather to be inconspicuous and to blend in as part of as large a group as possible. You don't want something about you to stand out atypically of others around you. For example, you may want to avoid referring to your gender as female by using personal pronouns such as you did with "her" and "she" because typically it is men who blend in together online and women immediately draw more interest and attention. Avoid it if you can. Likewise, you do not want to have the appearance of using software programs that partition you uniquely or into a smaller group than the average person might use. This does not mean that you have to use an average software program; it means you have "to appear" to use one, or to conceal that you are not, and that is different than actually using one. Thanks for participating at Gizmo's. view

Hi gen-x. Thanks for the reports and the q&a!

I have recently tried Hot Spot Shield and Cyberghost and found the following:

HSS works and is fast but I don't trust them. They are Canadian and I think that the government is more insidious than the US without the personal freedoms of the constitution. They seem to want a lot of info and they log a lot.

The big thing I found is that they BLOCK all bit-torrent. I read every document I could find and no where does it tell you this. They say they block some things they consider illegal. Bit-torrent is not illegal and they should keep their nose out of peoples private online activities, especially when they take money to provide premium services without telling you what they block!

Free Cyberghost works great and pretty much as you described but it is not limited to Germany. In the free version it will not let you choose your server but the default server always seems to be the closest one to your location. I have also not been limited to 1gb. You do have to register but you do not have give valid information and the user information gets you logged on just fine.

Some service that require specific information won't work (email) but they let you exclude specific domains so you can pass thru your email if you choose. This also works well. I think they are doing some kind of split tunneling to achieve that.

Thanks again!

Browsing is actually better if the internet knows where i am because it shows me stuff that's relevant to my location for example with shopping and news. view

I would suggest adding http://www.VPNBook.com to the list. VPNBook provides free PPTP or OpenVPN service and has servers in three countries. As PPTP client is included in most operating systems and OpenVPN is an open source project, no propriety software is needed.

Most of the information here hasn't been updated in 2 years (since I originally wrote the article). Use caution and judgement when choosing your program as the services may well have changed over those 2 years too. If the mods need any ideas on how to revamp this article, drop me a line.

I just have found an interesting article about 'How to protect ourselves from hackers'. It is available here:

http://blog.hotspotshield.com/2013/08/08/how-to-protect-yourself-from-ha...

One quote from the article:

"According to the Trustwave’s 2013 Global Security Report, cyber-security threats are increasing as quickly as we can implement measures against them. Hackers have lots of different ways to steal your private data and information. And the main reason why hackers go after your personal information is identity theft!

Over the past year, there have been roughly 12.6 million victims of identity theft – or, to put it into perspective, one victim every three seconds. No matter how safe you think you’re being online, chances are you’re making at least a few mistakes that compromise the integrity of your personal information."

About Hotspot Shield:

"Hotspot Shield VPN is the ultimate Internet security solution that secures your browsing session, detects and blocks malware, protects your privacy and allows you to access blocked sites. Hotspot Shield is available both as a free VPN and a paid Hotspot Shield Elite subscription.

Key Benefits to using Hotspot Shield:

- Secure your web session, data, online shopping, and personal information online with HTTPS encryption.

- Protect yourself from identity theft online.

- Secure your IP address for your privacy online and private browsing.

- Access all content privately without censorship; bypass firewalls.

- Protect yourself from snoopers at Wi-Fi hotspots, hotels, airports and corporate offices.

- VPN client works on both wireless and wired connections. Provides Unlimited Bandwidth. [!!]

- Works on PC and Mac, including new operating systems (Windows 8 and Mountain Lion)."

Even if their product has received many awards - including from CNN, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Business Week Intl. -, I would like that the editor of this rubric to test the FREE version of Hotspot Shield; and then, to tell us his opinion about the program.-

For those tempted to use TOR:

"Snoops can identify Tor users given enough time, experts say"

http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/09/snoops-can-identify-tor-users-gi...

A recent academic paper shows “that Tor faces even greater risks from traffic correlation than previous studies suggested.” In other words, one of the world's best tools for keeping online speech anonymous is at risk in a previously known—but now even clearer—fashion...

It seems there is a lot of contradictory info going around. As has been noted elsewhere, there isn't any body to consistently benchmark and evaluate the VPNs according to speed, logging, anonymity etc.

Here's another article I've found with different info again about Hotspot Shield. The upshot is no, probably not the most trustworthy one out there and not the most anonymous. In cahoots with google according to this http://howtodoit.eu/learn-how-to-install-and-use-hotspot-shield-vpn-soft...

It stuffs up -well not IT exactly, but google- stuff up gmail in the email client, because of their infuriatingly intrusive geolocation login validation 4rsholery. Apparently doesn't work with Bittorrent. therefore those who also don't really need it for general surfing may judge it not much use.

I wonder whether more voracious reading of user comments will elucidate things or whether there's just a whole tangle of misinformation out there.

I *love* your reviews: Detailed, broad coverage and, most importantly, unequivocal and expertly opinionated. You saved me an hour of headaches and a bottle of aspirin re-re-researching the state of VPNs today.

SecurityKiss is my (current) VPN of choice based on their adequate server facilities in my locale, unlimited/unthrottled bandwidth, the simplicity and elegance of their GUI and ease of configuration. I'll stick with them for now, not the least because of this review.

Thank you and all the excellent Commenters. Gushing finished.

To Predator 00728,

I wish to thank you for your suggestion of Spotflux. I have been playing with VPN's and proxy servers for six months now. I have used every VPN on this review page, plus others that are not here at one time or the other, but ended up deleting them for one reason or the other. Spotflux is the only one that has meet all of my criteria for what I want in a VPN.

I now have what I consider to be a perfect setup for me. I have Squid 2.7 for cache catching, and blocking HTTP_headers. I have Privoxy and AdblockPlus for blocking ads. Now thanks to you Predator, I have added the final piece of the puzzle, which is Spotflux, that changes my IP address. All of this for FREE !!

I wish to also thank the editor of this page for all of his hard work. There are some real good VPN's reviewed on this page, that can meet a lot of the needs of the readers of this page. Thank you all !!

I been using SecurityKiss for the past months but then last week something weird happened - I am automatically disconnected every unknown minutes, even though I am connected to the internet. And this morning, as I am using the service, it always disconnect, thus, risking my connection. What is happening to SecurityKiss?

For now, I am using Tor Browser Bundle (as I write this). And I did not find any problem with this. As for the speed, it is okay (beyond medium, with the fact that I am using broadband). This Tor is promising.

My suggestion: Please update this, because some of the programs are updated - like Cyberghost which is in 5.*, SecurityKiss is i 0.3.0 and Tor Browser Bundle which is 3.6.

Anyway, thank you for the list. Keep up the good work. :)

I used Ultrasurf and then tested it at ip-check.info. It displayed Ultrasurf's anonymized IP address, and right below, it displayed my real IP address and location.
So my question is: What good is Utrasurf?

Chris PC I haven't tried for a few years but this may be useful:

If you are going to install it, check the Privacy Agreement and see if you are about to accept a company called "Relevant Knowledge" is going to be allowed to track and retain every site you surf.

If you have installed it and review the above and decide to uninstall it, after you have uninstalled it, go to Windows Services and see if there's a programme called "Relevant Knowledge" set to "automatic" (automatically load on boot). If there is, set it to "disabled".

Of course they may not still do this or the name may have changed but worth looking.

I thought it a bit odd for an anonymous surfing proxy to be recording every site I surfed.

Does anyone have experience with either the Anonymox extension or the Anonymouse search engine? If yes, how much privacy/anonymity do each provide?

Yes, these are the most essential software and program that we must have in our system. To make our data protected and secure we must have following software to install in our system.
It offers numerous advantages like:-
1. Security and safety.
2. Protect data from hacker.

So, if your in planning to have the secure system you must always go for such kind of software.

Best Free Anonymous Surfing Services 5 years 7 months ago Ratzo An interesting note from Securitykiss PPTP discontinued 2014-12-17 We knew for a long time that the PPTP connection method was very broken and since Snowden it was known that PPTP had been compromised by the NSA. In SecurityKISS we kept the PPTP service running because it was easiest to set up on mobile phones and tablets. We were warning users that they should not expect confidentiality from PPTP. It was targetted at users who needed to change their IP address for video streaming and where confidentiality was not of paramount importance. There is an old saying in the security world: "there is always a tradeoff between security and convenience". We believe we were standing too long on the wrong side of that tradeoff and today we concluded that the warning is not enough so we decided to discontinue PPTP service in SecurityKISS view

As I am far from being an expert of VPNs, I have a simple question...

It is said that many VPN suppliers collects informations about you. Is that possible to conceal our true IP to a VPN supplier by using, beside the VPN itself, a software which has for unique task to change our IP ?

If these two softwares (VPN and IP hider) may work together, will the IP hider software change my IP between my computer and the VPN supplier or will it change the IP that the VPN supplier creates to hide my real IP ?

Please, I would like that nobody tells me that the VPN is supplying a new IP and that I don't need a IP hider, that is not the question here.

Hello,
You ask for feedback to improve articles here. Great.

First, thank you for a well written and informative article.
Secondly, in the article under emails, it states in several places a HEADS UP that an email is public: "all mailboxes are public." Could the author (or anyone else) elaborate please what this means in this specific context, as it is not clear.

Thank you.
