This Is One Of My Favourite Browser Extensions Ever 2 years 11 months ago ldmpub

Hi,

Many thanks! It looks like the perfect replacement for the http://toread.cc/ bookmarklet I was using some years ago (it may have disappeared since 2 years or more ... and I was still missing it ;-)). Receiving the web page embeded in the mail is for me far better than receiving just an url link because: readable off-line, searchable on "full content", easy to remember / identify what the page is talking about ...

Again, many thanks for this find and share!

Rhiannon, yes, HUH and UGGGHHH and ARGGHHH as well ;-)
My original post was from 09:22hrs CDT this morning; now it is about 16:37 on the same day and still nothing. Not even an mail response to the mail I sent them from their web "contact us" function.

Just tried this out and it's working perfectly! Being able to read the whole page off-line will make things much easier for me. Thanks, Rob!
I've tried Pocket, but unless I had internet access, I couldn't read the articles I saved (probably me doing something wrong).

Someone who said they were the developer posted a comment here yesterday (that's no longer here, I don't know what happened to it) that said they were having trouble with their email service, and for you to contact them and they would add you manually to the list. Although if they are having trouble with their email provider, it's sort of a moot point to contact them.
Here's their support email address, that might work better than the contact page: support@emailthis.me

I just signed up using Opera with a different address and the confirmation email appeared immediately. Might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling it in the browser you're using and then adding your email address again. I'm going to assume you've already checked that the email didn't go to a spam folder. :)

Rhiannon,
Thanks for the extensive reply. Just before I found the email with your suggestions I had tried exactly that again and mirac le of miracles, everything worked on the spot.
I am only glad that it was neither me nor my browser but apparently a virtual gremlin of sorts.
Thanks again and have a good weekend.

That looks useful. I use a mailto: shortcut on my toolbar but it opens my default email client.

What makes this editor better than say Notepad+++ and regularly updated as well and free too?

view
This Is The Text Editor That I Use Every Day. 2 years 4 months ago VelvetElvis

It doesn't look like the free version can hold a candle to Notepad++ feature-wise. Not much in the way of features compared to its bigger brother either, based on the following:
https://www.emeditor.com/text-editor-features/history/emeditor-free/

view
This Is The Text Editor That I Use Every Day. 2 years 4 months ago knookie

Been using EmEditor in conjunction with Notepad++ for years now. Yes Notepad++ has much better features/addins (and free) but the massive plus for Em Editor is it's ability to open extremely large files which Notepad++ either can't or takes ages to do. The downside is after the free trial period you lose most of the features but if opening extremely large files is something you need to do from time to time (i work in data operations) then you must install this. After trial period expires you can always completely remove and reinstall to get trial features back if desperate for them.

view
This Is The Text Editor That I Use Every Day. 2 years 4 months ago Bruce_Fraser

Personally, I prefer NoteTab Light, for these specific features:
* It can take a block of text, broken into many lines, and join it all into one paragraph.
* Text statistics: count how many words are in the document.
To quote VelvetElvis, it can't hold a candle to Notepad++, but who cares? I don't need all the fancy stuff it does. But I do need the above.

I don't get it.

I went to the website and I see that you create a message which is encrypted and protected by a password. Then what? Do you just look at it when you feel like? Can you send it to someone? How do you do that?
Either I'm very dense or I'm missing something. Please help.

Same here. So, I email the link to a person and they click on it to read it? I think that's how it works. Guess it will work if you're at work and your emails are read by tech support, but then again.

How to use:
1. Go to the site and type your message in the white area.
2. Make sure the "I accept the terms of Service." is checked.
3. Enter the email address of the recipient of your message.
4. Click "SAFE THIS MESSAGE"
5.
6. To test:
A. Copy the URL that appears.
B: Paste the URL in the address bar & click enter.
C. Read the message yourself ONE TIME ONLY.
8. Or don't test and the person will an email with a the URL.
9. The recipient can open the URL and read the message one time.

It looks simple to me (NO comments please ) if you use the service without an account, just type your message, click 'SAVE THIS MESSAGE' then copy and paste the URL into your email then send it. Just make sure the recipient has good eyesight as the text is helluva small.

This Mobile Browser Offers You A Free Unlimited VPN With Maximum Privacy and Security 2 years 4 months ago Rev_Don

All of these free VPNs are a joke. They offer no real privacy. They make their money by selling data they collect from your browsing. If you want actual privacy you have to pay for it as nobody can offer something for free. Plus, if it doesn't slow your connection enough to be noticeable then it isn't really doing anything. Free ones may be able to allow you to spoof your location enough to allow access to region specific content, but that's about it. Anyone who tells you different is either lying or doesn't have any idea what they are talking about.

If you don't believe me do some research on the subject.

I might try this, just to see if Netflix will let me access their site using it.

I have to deactivate my VPN on my desktop PC to access Netflix.

Originally i thought that it was just because the VPN was identifying me as coming from a country where Netflix is not available - it turns out that even if the VPN is saying i'm coming from my actual hometown in the US i can't connect to Netflix until i deactivate it.

This is good news for those with older versions of the office suites that don't have PDF built in. Many do have it built in now; if you're unsure of your version try document 'save as' and check if there is a PDF option to save your document. If there's nothing under 'save as', look for an 'export' option.

When I try to install the browser, I get this message, or rather, I get a longer error message, and it says it is on the clipboard - this is what was on the clipboard:
--------------
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Epic Privacy Browser\Installer\EpicUpdate.exe (pid=5016)
common\goopdate_utils.cc:445

!register_server
----------
After the error message, it was suggested to press Ignore and send a message to Epic. I pressed Ignore, and perhaps a message was sent automatically to Epic(?).

Further, at the end of the failed installation, a message from Epic comes that installation failed, with an error code. There is also a link which says: Get further help on this issue. When clicking this, it says the page is not available.

Perhaps it is just a temporary failure at the server....

I blame MS for starting the trend of stealing our work space, when they introduced the Ribbon, denying use of a fair chunk of the screen.
This developer doesn't have a Ribbon but he has denied us even more of the screen area.
He could slim things down a lot at the top of the screen, and the Toolbox and Properties dialog should be 'hideable'
I have developed applications for decades, and that unnecessary hogging of screen area is inexplicable.

Sorry to look a gift horse in the mouth,

If I downloaded a second opinion scanner because of a lack of trust in my primary scanner wouldn't my paranoia require that I download a third opinion scanner, then a fourth opinion scanner etc. Think I will just stick with Super Anti-spyware which has worked well for me for several years now.

view
This Second-Opinion Malware Scanner Is Free Now 4 years 4 months ago torres-no-tan-m... crosseyedlemon, It has nothing to do with trust: your primary scanner will never be able to detect every threat that exists. A second-opinion malware scanner will simply reduce the risk and, as mentioned many times on this site, a layered approach to security is far superior than solely relying on one piece of software. view
This Second-Opinion Malware Scanner Is Free Now 4 years 4 months ago grimbles

I think there may be some misunderstanding. SuperAntiSpyware (Free) IS a second opinion scanner. The first "opinion" always applies to the resident antivirus. However, if an installed AV program happens to let malware through, there's not much point in scanning with something which has already failed to identify the malware. That's where second opinion scanners, such as MBAM, SAS, and others, come into play.

And it certainly doesn't hurt to have more than one second opinion scanner installed. They are on-demand type programs which, because there is no real time protection involved, do not clash with antivirus and other security software.

I've been using HitmanPro for a long time now and find it very useful for identifying potential malware that other scanners sometimes overlook. The more varied the scanners used, the better IMO.
The original SurfRight website still currently offers HitmanPro downloads (without requiring a name and email address)....whereas at present, the Sophos link merely redirects you to that original website after collecting your email address!

It took about 50 minutes for the full scan to complete. Detected and cleaned 18 tacking cookies. The quick scan took only 1 min 39 secs. Resource use was low - about 29MB average. Detected an error in Hosts File and repaired it. Scan will be faster if user cleans out sandboxes (if using Sandboxie) before scanning.
However, I then ran a quick scan using Super Anti-Spyware, and it detected 13 tracking cookies ( could not compare the two as I had already deleted the tracking cookies found by Hitman Pro
Then I ran the MalwareBytes threat scan and it detected nothing.
I'll keep them all

Thanks for another fine article, Rob.

HMP is indeed an excellent second (or third) opinion scanner; it's been part of my toolkit for about a decade. It is also available for download from Softpedia, and without registration required: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popup-Ad-Spyware-Blockers/Hitman-Pro.shtml .

As nothing finds everything, another excellent utility for one's security toolkit that I highly recommend is AdwCleaner (free detection AND cleaning; best practice would be to set a Restore Point before deleting any Registry entries one is not absolutely certain of); it is regularly updated. The Softpedia link is: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Removal-Tools/AdwCleaner.shtml .
