Bypass Link Shorteners With This Browser Add-on 1 month 5 days ago i8spombots

Love the idea but it seems to have been released too early - for non-mainstream browsers (which I use-eg Brave, Pale Moon and Opera) it either doesn't work or there are geeky workarounds which frankly I can't be bothered deciphering to find if they actually work, sad.
These browsers have millions of users so maybe "non-mainstream" is a stretch but the dev (who has a good looking, informative site) should have put a little more effort in. It's all very well to blame the people behind those other browsers for the incompatibility but the dev IS RELEASING THIS not those others.

Bypass Link Shorteners With This Browser Add-on 1 month 5 days ago rhiannon

From what I understand, the non-mainstream browsers have different APIs/coding.
It takes a lot of work to adapt an add-on to each browser and keep it updated.
To do something different or new in the add-on for each non-mainstream browser so the add-on/extension would work with all of them would be difficult and time consuming.
There's only one person developing this (and many other) add-ons. Most people who develop add-ons have their hands full keeping up with the browser upgrades and the ones I know of don't make money from their extensions and add-ons - they see a need and created something to fill it. Most of them have jobs so they can support themselves.

I don't see a fault or anything to blame anywhere.
I'm sure (in this case) that the developer would make changes so the add-on would work with all browsers if it could be done in a reasonable amount of time and with a reasonable amount of effort. It isn't just putting in a little more effort that would be required, it would be reworking the add-on for each browser.
Most developers want people to use their add-ons, that's why they make them.
I have an idea of what this developer goes through just keeping the add-on available at the Firefox Addons site. It's not easy and it's time consuming dealing with Mozilla and making sure the add-on conforms to standards and works with version upgrades.

I'm aware of a few developers who have tried to get their extensions to work with alternate browsers, specifically Brave. They can't make their extension work with Brave, period. It's not possible because of the way Brave is structured and how a particular extension works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There are web apps, sites and extensions that don't work in Brave - I use it as is, knowing that compatibility and usability are not front and center issues for them. They are developing what they envision the best browser to be. Their code won't allow some extensions to work because of how the extensions function, full stop. There's no blame to be laid, they are developing what they envision as the best browser. Most developers do the best they can to ensure compatibility across browsers.

I'm not calling out Brave, it's one of the non-mainstream browsers I use and am aware of a few people who tried to get their extension to work with Brave and discovered it's not possible.

[Might be nice if someone were to build a 'app' into which one could type the URL and then it would send it to blacklight to check it out and then show you the results on your own screen. And as well if you still wanted to use the site you could check a box and the URL would be typed into your browser so that off you could go to look at that site.]

Our site was the first one I checked. We have ad trackers and third party cookies that are consistent with our use of Google AdSense. Google AdSense is our only form of advertsing, it pays the site expenses.

Oddly enough in my checking some sites you would think have a bunch of trackers have one or two.

If I were president of the world, I would ban twitter.
Most of the tweets (that I have seen) appear to deliberately avoid giving us any hint of what the tweet is about.
Thus everyone has to CLICK A LINK, just so that we can THEN see if it is a subject matter that we MIGHT be interested in.

Twitter can seem like a dumpster fire at times. I don't have a Twitter account but there are a handful of people I keep an eye on. I don't have the same experience as you've had with links with no reference though I don't like the bitly links they use to track and shorten URLs.

I keep in mind that at any given time, and more so when there large news events, that a significant percentage of Twitter accounts and tweets are from bots. You can purchase large amounts of bots rather inexpensively to gain followers, spread a message, or harass and target inividuals using  large groups of bots.

If I keep in mind that Twitter is full of accounts created by bots it's bearable.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

According to this note on the extension’s own page this feature cannot be set from the extension itself unless I’ve missed something among the myriad of other settings?

“You are on the new Facebook design, and some of FBP's functionality may not yet work. If there is any functionality that is not working for you on the new Facebook design, please try switching to the old Facebook design, and see if that fixes your issue.”

Could you point me to where you see that? I've looked at the home page and the page for the Firefox and Chrome add-ons and the page that appears after installation and I'm missing it.

I'm not sure how you could set the feature from the extension itself, it changes the user agent string automatically. You can do that manually and there are add-ons that make it easy. Uninstalling it changes the user agent string to the current browser and version
The extension can be enabled/disabled from the address bar icon, but I don't see a way to change the user agent anywhere.

The page after installation says:
"This extension works by telling Facebook that you are actually using an old browser, which its new redesign doesn't support.

BUT... there are some side-effects of that. Some features may not work perfectly, some might not be available at all (i.e. Video Chat), and there may be some visual quirks.

Unfortunately, I can't do much about those things. Facebook thinks you are using an old browser, so it disables some things that won't work in old browsers. That's just a trade-off."

After reading the features of ClipBoardFusion, I think I'll stay with StripMail. https://stripmail.belenli.org/
It's simple, free and works flawlessly. Paste formatted text into StripMail and copy unformatted from it - done. It also removes white space, takes out ">" characters or indents lines by inserting them if that's what you want, it can reformat text into paragraphs without breaks if that's what you need to do. You can do it all with one button to make it easy. I've used it for years and haven't seen anything better.

I have just downloaded this and, though there's nothing to it as an interface, it doesn't have the simplest of all options - input two file paths and tell us whether or not the files are the same?

If it can't do this then its lifespan on people's PCs is going to be measured in minutes. From my perspective it's a 100% fail. All I wanted to do was compare two 440GB disk images. Not gonna hang around.

I have a similar set up. What I'm talking about are the large boxes that pop up (usually on mouse move) asking you to subscribe to their newsletter or something similar. Or the ones that want  you to create an account and blur the background so you can't read anything. Pinterest is good example.

The privacy notifications are normally banners that let you know a site uses cookies and if you proceed, you agree to the use of your data according to the site policy. These are not an issue for me.

I repeated on FF and worked fine. I cannot repeat the issue on Chrome but this is a link (to refresh a blog) that I use multiple times a day from a reputable newspaper and I have never seen it act like this before, so the suspicion was immediately on this new add-on.

"Free" for non-commercial usage, yet obtrusive nag popups obscure the screen and whatever you are doing every time a scheduled backup occurs, reminding you that business useage is prohibited and offering to stop the popups by paying their fee for business usage.
That, plus when saving versions of files, the only option is to archive them into an individually named timestamped zip file folder, with the hierarchy of the files saved, also in individualized zip folders, making it very tedious if you have to locate one of the prior file versions.
The wizard interface is also very non-intuitive.

Best Free Search Engine 2 weeks 3 days ago Matcha

I am a matcha lover, matcha brings me many health benefits, Matcha, like other green teas, contains a class of antioxidants called catechins. Matcha is high in a catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is believed to have cancer-fighting effects on the body. Studies have linked green tea to a variety of health benefits, like helping to prevent heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, and even encouraging weight loss. However, it’s important to note that much of this research isn’t from clinical trials that show green tea causes a benefit. Instead, it’s largely from population-based studies, where researchers look at groups of people who drink green tea and compare their health outcomes to groups that don’t drink it. Studies have shown associations between tea and better health, but causation is not yet proven. Matcha is even less studied than brewed green tea.

Does matcha make you poop? A cup of matcha is equivalent to 35 grams of sweet potatoes, which helps gastrointestinal peristalsis and accelerates excretion.
