Automatically Remove Formatted Text from Your Clipboard 5 months 4 days ago Mike C

I've been using Executor for quite a few years now. It has a function that will clean text on the clipboard that I find invaluable. It's a bit complicated to set up; however, once done, it's a great launcher

I have just downloaded this and, though there's nothing to it as an interface, it doesn't have the simplest of all options - input two file paths and tell us whether or not the files are the same?

If it can't do this then its lifespan on people's PCs is going to be measured in minutes. From my perspective it's a 100% fail. All I wanted to do was compare two 440GB disk images. Not gonna hang around.

i see that "light beam" add-on on firefox or chrome could do the same and a bit more sophisticated somehow.

That's a good option if you don't mind installing another add-on. If you're on a different platform or browser and add-ons aren't supported, it's good to be able to access the information from a website.

Thanks for this tip.
But what is wrong with me or my computer?
You write "...annoying popups, overlays, notifications, blur wrappers and other internet annoyances...".
I don't see any of that.

The "I just want to read" setting allowed me to get past the paywall of a major newspaper site that was otherwise impossible. Don't know how long that will last, but so far so good.

Stop Popups, Overlays, Privacy Notifications and More with This Browser Extension 4 months 4 weeks ago rhiannon

I have a similar set up. What I'm talking about are the large boxes that pop up (usually on mouse move) asking you to subscribe to their newsletter or something similar. Or the ones that want  you to create an account and blur the background so you can't read anything. Pinterest is good example.

The privacy notifications are normally banners that let you know a site uses cookies and if you proceed, you agree to the use of your data according to the site policy. These are not an issue for me.

Seemed to install - without asking - a couple of other items as well one was an Ad Blocker and I can't track down the other one, so be VERY cautious with this

view
Stop Popups, Overlays, Privacy Notifications and More with This Browser Extension 4 months 4 weeks ago rhiannon

Could you be more specific about what ad blocker it installed and other items you've found and where they are located?
The developer says the add-on doesn't block ads. I tested it on Firefox, Edge and Brave and didn't find anything anomalous, if I've missed something I would appreciate knowing about it.

view

I installed it on Chrome and when I clicked on a link in a tab I had open AdBlock Plus and one other add-on - I think it was something to do with printing pages - was installed. I repeated on FF and worked fine. I cannot repeat the issue on Chrome but this is a link (to refresh a blog) that I use multiple times a day from a reputable newspaper and I have never seen it act like this before, so the suspicion was immediately on this new add-on.

Backup Maker 4 months 3 weeks ago Tomnov

"Free" for non-commercial usage, yet obtrusive nag popups obscure the screen and whatever you are doing every time a scheduled backup occurs, reminding you that business useage is prohibited and offering to stop the popups by paying their fee for business usage.
That, plus when saving versions of files, the only option is to archive them into an individually named timestamped zip file folder, with the hierarchy of the files saved, also in individualized zip folders, making it very tedious if you have to locate one of the prior file versions.
The wizard interface is also very non-intuitive.

Best Free Search Engine 4 months 3 weeks ago Matcha

I am a matcha lover, matcha brings me many health benefits, Matcha, like other green teas, contains a class of antioxidants called catechins. Matcha is high in a catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is believed to have cancer-fighting effects on the body. Studies have linked green tea to a variety of health benefits, like helping to prevent heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, and even encouraging weight loss. However, it’s important to note that much of this research isn’t from clinical trials that show green tea causes a benefit. Instead, it’s largely from population-based studies, where researchers look at groups of people who drink green tea and compare their health outcomes to groups that don’t drink it. Studies have shown associations between tea and better health, but causation is not yet proven. Matcha is even less studied than brewed green tea.

Does matcha make you poop? A cup of matcha is equivalent to 35 grams of sweet potatoes, which helps gastrointestinal peristalsis and accelerates excretion.

I set up the folders I want to back up and the sync options (one direction/both directions etc.) then save the the setup to a .bat file.you can schedule with windows task scheduler or just run manually.. One little trick, FreeFileSync jobs have an option to save a log file. I save the log to a directory on the backup location, so I can check how its been running.

I think your statement "no import and export of files are supported" in relation to HoDoKu is wrong. Yes, .hsol is its native "save game" format. However, it does allow to reproduce puzzles in, afaik, a universally accepted format. That is, a comma-separated value file. Available via Edit > Copy...
Usually, Copy Candidates works best. The Library format preserves the difference between Givens and set Values too, in case that might useful. There's a Copy Step (Hint) in there somewhere as well, iirc.

Sadly, this program is no longer under development by its author. But, with a little help from friends of HoDoKu, I did get this done https://github.com/1to9only/HoDoKu/releases/tag/2.2.2

Nice find. Seems to work really well.

I use the "single click to open items in Windows" and find that no Windows changes (to add boxes) are necessary (at least on my initial testing :-)). I move the mouse to "hang" over a file until it is highlighted, and then press space to allow QuickLook to preview/un-preview. Enter or single clicking the file opens the file.

The developer has to keep up with Facebook changing things so these kinds of extensions don't work. My guess is that something changed with FB and the extension will be updated to work. If it can't be made to work he'll post it on the site.

You can get the old layout using another one of his extensions, Social Fixer. It also eliminates many other annoyances.

I turned off all the blockers I use for the site (because I have loved youse guys for such a long time), but as a suggestion, people may want to use a cookie cleaner when they leave.
