This is a very helpful program - I have used it before, but I didn't realise that it plays videos (!) and also can preview every page of a PDF that you highlight.
You do need to mention it requires the added installation of NET Framework to function

Hi guys!

It is NOW October 22nd, 2020, about 1:30 PM.
I just now donated five bucks, and I TRULY wish it could be more, better yet become a recurring monthly thingy.
But, that's just not gonna happen on what Social Security provides me.
I am a LONG TIME USER of all the wonderful stuff I receive in my "In Box" because of YOU WONDERFUL GUYS & GALS.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU PROVIDE FOR FREE!
Even though I am a near 70 cranky "Old-fart", there is ALWAYS a warm, soft spot in my heart for the 'Gizmo's' crew plus all of the support staff.
May the banner of 'Gizmos's' continue flying high forever!

Unfortunately, the ads are being blocked by Firefox because they are trackers and they are persistent little buggers. I turned off all the blockers I use for the site (because I have loved youse guys for such a long time), but as a suggestion, people may want to use a cookie cleaner when they leave. There are several that are very good, including the Forget Me Not extension for Firefox, which can clear all the trackers when leaving the site.

Best PC Games of the Decade 1 month 2 days ago George.J

Sid Meier's Civilization V was originally in my list of honorable mentions, that just missed the cut. It was my in top 55 games, and no doubt it's a brilliant 4X game. It scored a solid 85/100 when I was rating the games sequentially, however all the top 50 ones scored 86 and above in my list.

Below are some of the games that just missed the cut, not because they are not great, but I had a hard time choosing the games, as too many of them were good, like really good.

Sid Meier's Civilization V
Cuphead
DUSK
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Kerbal Space Program
Tomb Raider
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
Hotline Miami
The Talos Principle
Tales from the Borderlands: A Telltale Game Series
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Papers, Please
DOOM
NieR: Automata
Terraria
To the Moon

For free civilization like games, check this article of mine: https://www.techsupportalert.com/long-list-nid.htm/2337

I'm not sure what to make of this. It's been working fine, though today I got a pop up that said click to trigger Facebook's mechanism to revert to the old layout, and that the option would be offered again in 48 hours. I've checked with people on FB who use the add-on and haven't had any trouble as yet.

Yes, there will be times when the add-on won't work. FB is very active about forcing people to see what they want and work to prevent things like this from working. You may not want to use it and avoid any interruptions.

As regards the developers commitment, he's been developing this since 2009.

I wish I could have donated ten times as much - and made it an automatic monthly donation, also. I value this site As Much as I value archive.org !

{I confess: I have been spending more time at archive.org lately than I have been spending here (where's that embarrassed emoji ☺️ ?) - but while that place feels like a vast library of [millions of] wonders ... it is THIS site that feels like a Cozy HOME to me. And though prodigal I may be ... it is to here that my heart (and eventually, my sorry azz) always returns - and I always feel as welcomed again, as the proverbial prodigal one, when I do return.}

Please keep up the good work, everyone!!!!

PS I recommend Ad Nauseum extension - it clicks on every ad on every page (in the background) so that the click counts - causing an "Impression" that means the Ad gets paid to the Site. This also 'Munges the HECK' out of your 'ad trail' ... and adds EVERY Subject - to your "liked Ads" profile ... ruining by 'flooding' ... their carefully built profile of 'your liked ads' - what advertising you have clicked upon.

https://adnauseam.io/

Open Source - and if your site has ads on any page: AdNauseam WILL Click on them for you. The "Anti" Ad Blocker ... it eats EVERY One for breakfast (I swear one site had rotating ads ... and it eventually clicked on several hundred for THEM).

I use Jitsi weekly, and I love it. I recommend it.

One correction: it's most decidedly NOT secure. When you create a room, all you do is create a URL. The same URL works over and over, as the room isn't created until someone visits that URL. Anyone with that URL will automatically join your room. The only way to be "secure" is in the sense that you have a unique URL that someone else will never visit. It's not a problem, but it's not "secure" as one would use the word when talking about software.

I use ad-blockers extensively because I have a strong distaste for paying for the ads on services I pay for and the tracking that goes along with them. I am sorry to hear of the financial strain on the site. I was happy to donate to help keep it going. Good luck with the fund the raising.

I tried to donate again using the Donate button above. That takes me to a Paypal-administered form. I selected the Debit/Credit card option. Once again, it won't process my donation without the input of my phone number, which I am not going to provide. I have made other purchases today on other sites with the same cc that did not require my phone number. I don't understand why you won't take my donation without the input of one of my phone numbers.

Donate Now and Help Keep Gizmo's Freeware Independent and Non-commercial 3 weeks 4 days ago MidnightCowboy This and other issues related to PayPal crop up regularly in their support section. From what I can gather from scanning the posts they relate to country specific issues for either the sender or where the receiving account is registered. Since the financial regulations for each country will likely be different this explains why you can send/receive to/from one source but maybe not to another. Mobile phone numbers are requested to combat fraud since they are used to send an SMS verification code. MC – Site Manager. view

It asked for (actually: required) either a mobile, home or work number. My home number can't receive SMS, so that appears not to be the reason it was asking for that info. Plus, usually one has the option to do verification via email, which I did supply. But, it said nothing about a verification process in the form in any case. Just letting you know.

Thanks again for all the work you do, much appreciated. While of course not a social media user, Social Disconnect sounds possibly useful in removing tags &c. Couple of questions.

1. What is known about Social Disconnect: who owns, why freeware, &c. ?
2. Are there any indications that Social Disconnect logs internet or its own usage - it would be a nifty way to collect data without bothering to lure people in - or for that matter does anything to one's computer ?

-and any other "security" questions I have forgotten to ask !

Thanks again.
