This is awesome, is there any way to filter by date, something like, for example, |Select-String -Pattern ‘8\/12\/2016' would do, but directly in the command?
I don't mean to be rude and I understand that some people are working under severe restrictions. But for the most part, I think that if you are so tight on disk space that you are trying to squeeze out an extra few gigs of storage then you would be better off just upgrading your hard disk or adding another. Disk space is cheap and I doubt that this sort of cleanup is going to have any significant positive effect on the system. Maybe you just like to tweak your system - that's fine. Just my two cents...
"To change the speed you need to select the whole file (represented as wav peaks) and go to Effect > Change Speed…... I dragged the blue cursor up so that I was changing the speed by about 50%. I find that to be a reasonable increase while still being able to understand the words. You could play with the speed to see how fast your file needs to go."
“If you play back your file as is, you’ll find it fairly difficult to understand because of the chipmunk element, it also sounds pretty funny. Go to Effect > Change Pitch…. Drag the blue cursor like for the speed, but this time take it down about 30%. I find with a 50% increase in speed, a 30% decrease in pitch makes the speaker sounds fairly normal.
That's not needed. If you select "Effect > Change Tempo" instead of "Effect > Change Speed" you can speed the audio up without changing the pitch of the voices, saving yourself a second round of audio processing to fix the chipmunk element.
Your method will cause a drop in sound quality due to transcoding. MP3 Direct Cut allows editing, fade-outs and so on with no re-coding so no quality loss and it's much faster.
Comparing the free browser versions of Deezer & Spotify, Spotify wins on sound qualty alone. Deezer is streaming at 128kbps CBR mp3 which makes the treble sound a mushy mess. It's especially noticeable on cymbals and high-hats.
Spotify streams at 160kbps CBR mp3, which is just about good enough that compression artefacts are far less noticeable, and the cymbals and high-hats sound nicely defined and crispy. Spotify's browser option can be found here, https://play.spotify.com/browse

This news makes me so sad as I felt when I read about M$ buying Skype, years ago. After, the "end" of MSN...
It's realy a pity to see that so many good and useful softwares, full of pleased users, are being aquired in a moment just for disband competing companies, control of market and accumulation of money. Times later, the "dreams are abandoned" and the softwares are simply throwed in trash by the buyers...
The users and fans? "Let's look to the future!"
A number of companies insist on saying that the users are their biggest patrimony and their number one objective, but, in practice, they make exactly the opposite.
I just created an account to sign the petition in favor of Winamp. My words there:
"Winamp was a pioneer and became a synonymous of media player. A very nice and useful software for millions of user, a mark in computation history. It should NEVER disappear!"
Quoting your own words, let me put focus in one of the most important things around this subject:
"A properly configured XP runs much more smoothly than win7 and win8.1."
Any system well configured and correctly used runs more smoothly, more protected and with more security. The keyword is: KNOWLEDGE. Or education, by extension.
The Windows updates are not neither never were the most important thing to ensure protection and security.
In my case, living in Brazil at the end of one of the worst summers of all time (the heat broke records this time), I would prefer some wallpaper that could remind me the COLD weather to come! X-D
Hehehe... around the world, so different weathers, so different people, so different realities and situations... but we are all in the same walk, sharing our experiences... thank you, rhiannon! ;-)
By the way, I have a 8 GB pen drive with a lot of amazing and different SOs/Linux distributions thanks to YUMI. Now I'm downloading Tails and it will be the novelty of my "collection".
Many times, stay with XP is not just an user choice. Especially in the companies.
I know "thousands" of people who will continue using XP simply because in their jobs XP will continue to be the used OS.
In other words, no matter if people like XP or if people have no choice: the better way is TEACH they to continue using XP with security, regardless of the M$ support.
Reason why articles like this, posted by rob.schifreen, are so welcome.
By the way, the wallpaper I use in my cellphone is a space picture! X-D
I found the "NASA Image of the Day" times ago, times before I became a Gizmo's member. It's a pleasure to see it here now, as the "Website of the Week".
One more great indication from rhiannon... *thumbs up*! :-)
Once again, we see that more money may not be guarantee of better quality.
That is very common and we can point many other examples. By extension, we can also say that newer things may not be better than older things. Softwares and OSs included here.
I remember when I found AlternativeTo (a long ago) and used it often. But one day I didn't get what I wanted, so I decided to search for another good source of information. Then I found Gizmo! :-)
Since then, Gizmo and AlternativeTo are always on my way. But to be honest, nowadays Gizmo is my main source.
It seems I found the answer for my own question posted yesterday (see below):
"...
Who is vulnerable?
The FREAK attack is possible when a vulnerable browser connects to a susceptible web server—a server that accepts “export-grade” encryption.
...
Chrome for Windows and all modern versions of Firefox are known to be safe. However, even if your browser is safe, certain third-party software, including some anti-virus products and adware programs, can expose you to the attack by intercepting TLS connections from the browser. ..."
Since Firefox is the best browser for privacy and offer many resources for a "clean" web browsing, it's true that an extension like that sounds like something unnecessary. Plus, there are many good utilities that can help in this way.
But it is very good to see and count with a large and diversified number of good options and possibilities. The freedom in choosing what and how we want is unpayable.
From this point of view, I think that Click And Clean and all the other resources that help people are totally welcome.
A long, long ago, I created a BAT file to do something similar to this. I will try Print Flush, probably it is a better solution than mine! :-)
Congratulations to the author, who saw the potential behind the idea, and thank you for sharing with us, rhiannon! ;-)
EDIT (20/10/15):
Hahahahaha! Print Flush does EXACTLY what my BAT does, except by the "Lexmark section". X-D
Even so and once again, thank you Brad Kovach & rhiannon! :-)
the first thing I read today was your message. And your words made my day start better! :-)
Thank you from my heart! And rest assured that I appreciate very much your posts and all you share with us through the years.

Long time Avast is my main choice and recommendation for family, friends and customers. Evaluating pros and cons, I think it is one of the best free antivirus.
A tip for the ones who are annoyed with pop ups: it's possible to configure Avast for showing pop ups for just 1 second.
I am an old school coder. Many years ago I started with Basic, in times when the word "Visual" even exist in the world of personal computers. After I learned to coding in Cobol, dBASE and Clipper. Nowadays I coding in Harbour (a Clipper evolution, in few words). Recently I "played" some hours with Python.
Your article got my attention and I will give a good look at "Coding Ground" as soon as I can.
CCleaner is one of the most light, powerful and useful tools I know. It's worth to remember: it offers other good options, like manage system restore points, searches for duplicate files and analysis of startup programs. Gil Mensch posted in detail about this, below.
To me, CCleaner is a must. I've been using it for years in all the computer that I take for maintenance/optimization. It's a top quality software, without a doubt.

"Spotify - requires a download to your computer"
No longer true. Spotify also has a browser version here, https://play.spotify.com/browse
Using Chrome with AdBlockPlus allows unlimited access to all Spotify content with no audio adverts too!

Indeed, I live in England.
Has anyone actually tested the claims or do we just take the developer's word that it saves ink?
Hasn't this been built onto Firefox since the introduction of the "awesome bar"?
This software has recently started nagging me to upgrade. Had weeks of it over the New Year, and now it's at it again. During a pandemic. Grrr!

Nice tip, Anupam... thank you! :-)
2019: these tricks will never be outdated!
Thank you, Vic! :-)
Totaly agree!
The continous use of UAC takes (almost) everyone to click always on "Yes" with no reading of the prompted window.
The time show us that UAC is one more useless (or nearly useless) "security feature" from Microsoft.
Very interesting... thank you, rob! :-)
I knew just 2 or 3 from this list... cool tip, thank you, Vic! :-)
*thumbs up*
Thank you, rob! :-)
Tks for the info, Vic!
Nice tip, Vic... tks! :-)
I found OldApps.com long time ago and loved it!
The idea behind it can be ingeniously simple, but is absolutely good and useful!

Good tip, Vic... thank you! :-)

Tks for the tip about Change.org, AJNorth!
I just created an account to sign the petition in favor of Winamp. My words there:

Good tips, Vic... thank you! :-)
Thank you for the info, rob! And for all of you who posted so good opinions here, of course! ;-)
But I make mine the words of Niloc214 (below)... almost all of those words! :-)
Just reinforcing with another words: keeping the Windows systems updated is NOT a must.
It is not neither NEVER was. That is: the fact of M$ is giving the back to XP is not a REAL threat.
Very good post, esme... congrats! :-)
Quoting your own words, let me put focus in one of the most important things around this subject:

GREAT tip, Vic!
I used to use other methods to fix computers with problems like that... next time I will try RKill.
Thank you! :-)

Very nice! :-)
"If you're somewhere with warm weather this wallpaper provides a visual cool down."
Thank you rhiannon, THANK YOU SO MUCH! :-D
And let me get one more ice cream! X-D
Exactly!
I am happy with your remembrance and kindly! :-)
Good suggestion rob, thank you! :-)
Just leaving a humble opinion: better than burn a DVD is to use a pen drive and a boot creator software, like YUMI:
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/
By the way, I have a 8 GB pen drive with a lot of amazing and different SOs/Linux distributions thanks to YUMI. Now I'm downloading Tails and it will be the novelty of my "collection".
"Most security problems are caused by user error."
This is THE phrase. Absolutely right!
Thank you, rob. And long life to XP! :-)

I appreciated this article and the suggestions/comments about Forte 5, Finale Notepad and Musescore: tks to all of you, guys! :-)
Very, VERY beautiful... thank you, rhiannon! :-)
What a COOL tip, rob... thank you! :-D
By the way... in my case, I am a 15,247 days old boy! X-D
I tried it a moment ago, quickly, just to see the possibilities and... WOW!
GREAT TIP, rob... thank you! :-D
Nice tip, rob. Thank you! :-)
Vic, your contribution is amazing!
I don't know how many times I already read your great tips... many, many times, for sure. And a lot of them were really useful.
CONGRATULATIONS, THANK YOU and KEEP UP THE TOP QUALITY JOB! :-)

Exactly, that's THE point!
Thank you, rob! :-)
Outstanding image, rhiannon!
Thank you! :-)
I have been using ExamDiff for years and have the same opinion: this is a very good and very useful program.
Great suggestion, rob! :-)
Good tip, rob... tks! :-)

Great tip, rob... thank you! :-)

"Do you remember the 70s and 80s..."
Oh, Vic! I remember like it was yesterday... with joy and proud! :-)
Thank you very much! And let me use your post to indicate to everyone the great MAME project: http://mamedev.org/
Once again, we see that more money may not be guarantee of better quality.
That is very common and we can point many other examples. By extension, we can also say that newer things may not be better than older things. Softwares and OSs included here.

Remah,
thanks for your post. But I think you didn't understand my point of view and what I meant.
The comment was succinct and personal. To preserve and keep the focus on the most important thing here: the post from rob.schifreen.
My opinion and your opinion here are secondary. And probably many users were not confused or mistaken after reading what I wrote, like you were.
noneleft, just today I returned here I just now I am reading your post... thank you! :-)
Thank you very much, Gizmo! And keep up the amazing job, day after day! :-)
Repeating a message I left 2 days ago (http://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/chitchat/14743-merry-chri...), a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a NEW YEAR FULL OF JOYS to each of you and to all the ones who are close to you!
HEALTH and PEACE!
Thank you, rhiannon!
HEALTH and PEACE for you! :-)
Very cool, rob!
I cleaned the screen in Breakout a moment ago... very good memories, thank you! :-D

Thank you, rob! :-)
Our point of view makes all the difference.
The origin of this photo is sad but, from that space view, it is a beautiful image.
As usual, thank you, rhiannon! :-)
I remember when I found AlternativeTo (a long ago) and used it often. But one day I didn't get what I wanted, so I decided to search for another good source of information. Then I found Gizmo! :-)

Isn't Superfish detected and removed by antimalwares like Malwarebytes?
Hehehe!
And I am here, at southern hemisphere, waiting for the arrival of the winter to take away this annoying heat! X-D
Nice pict rhiannon, as usual. Even for the ones tired of summer! :-)
rob,
this is a fix for Windows or for Internet Explorer?
So, the fix is for the system (Windows)?
If an user always browse with Firefox and NEVER use Internet Explorer, for example, is he under risk?
It seems I found the answer for my own question posted yesterday (see below):
"...

It's time to have fun!
Thank you, Jojo! :-)
The boot options seems to be very useful.
Very good, Vic... thank you! :-)
Same error here, but in my case the guilty was Adblock Plus. I just disabled it in the page and worked immediately.
Thank you for sharing, rob! :-)
One more here: I refused to install Windows 8 and I am not enthusiastic with Windows 10.
But this article from Vic Laurie is quite good: thank you, Vic! :-)
Thank you, rob! :-)
That will be useful when my family, friends and customers asking me about Windows 10.
As for myself, I am VERY satisfied using XP (yes!), 7, Ubuntu and Mint.
You are quite right, crosseyedlemon.
That's one of the reasons I became a convinced critic of M$.
By the way, I already installed Classic Shell in so many computers to help people that I can't count anymore.
Thank you for remember us about Classic Shell, Vic! :-)
*thumbs up*
:-)
You are quite right, crosseyedlemon.
When I think about "maybe newer is not better", many examples come to my mind. First of all: Windows.
Nice tip, rob. I will try it... thank you! :-)
I am a big fan and user of keyboard shortcuts since... always!
This list is amazing, surely I will learn more than I already know... many tks, Vic! :-)

In my case, I only can pick the "I like colorful leaves" option, rhiannon! X-D
Thank you, as usual! :-)
OMG... I'm scared! :-O X-D
*thumbs up* to rhiannon! :-)
Hahahahaha! X-D
+1
Thank you, guys! :-)
WOW!
Thank you so much, rhiannon... and let's share one more Christmas time! :-)

Thank you from my heart! And rest assured that I appreciate very much your posts and all you share with us through the years.

This is a Christmas gift, without a doubt!
Peace, serenity, harmony, introspection... feelings that this picture brings to me.
Simply WONDERFUL, rhiannon! Your choice reflects a lot of what the Christmas time should be for most of people.
Thank you so much! :-)
Nice!
Thank you, MC!

Thank you, rhiannon! But... tell me: is it a paint, right?
Long time Avast is my main choice and recommendation for family, friends and customers. Evaluating pros and cons, I think it is one of the best free antivirus.
A tip for the ones who are annoyed with pop ups: it's possible to configure Avast for showing pop ups for just 1 second.
"Try it out. It's fun and free, and very simple to play."
You said all, rob. Just a few more words: great pastime, cool simple game!
Thank you! :-)
Hahahahaha... very cool! :-D
Tks, rob! :-)
