I regularly merge a lot of PDFs into various files and have found PDF Redirect to be the easiest to use, mainly because of the thumbnail views of the files being merged.

http://www.exp-systems.com/

Also, it keeps the list of files after merging. If you need to change one of the files, or add or delete files, it's easy to regenerate the merge.

This program apparently hasn't been updated for a while (I could suggest features) but it's surely worth an honorable mention.

Irfanview with the plugins and with Ghostscript installed can also merge PDFs.

Best Free File Comparison Utility 6 years 10 months ago sdion

Hi

I'm looking for a software that compares text files and considered the following 2 files as equals:

File "A":
bla bla

File "B":
bla
bla

It needs to highlights any others differences.

I still didn't find, yet, any software (free or paid) that has this feature!

I'm willing to use *nix alternative if there is no windows solution.

Thanks in advance

Good article and probably helpful if reading or writing text, viewing spreadsheet data, etc. However the standard for viewing and evaluating color either onscreen or in physical form is 6500K (further gamma tweaked if your monitor allows). For physical reflected pieces you also need a full spectrum light source with a color rendering index (CRI) of 90-100 to be accurate.

Changing your monitor temperature can greatly alter the color of images you are viewing.

Ahem sad  .... link missing for QuiteRSS? I find no external URL.

And ... the system requirements for QuiteRSS (the system requirements are usually posted to the right of the 'gear' icon) are also AWOL ....  crying

Half a dozen places in the Description, and in the Text at the bottom in the list: it is referred to as "QuietRSS". So, is it "QuietRSS" or "QuiteRSS"?

Thank you: for donating the time to help keep this place running!

And I found a little poll here: http://quiterss.org/en/quiterss-for-other-os quite informal - asking what other RSS readers you might have used. I noted that RSSOwl is in the lead, with Feed Demon a few points behind. (As a Macintosh OS X user - RSSOwl is the one I use ... and RSSOwl is listed as the Best RSS Reader For Macintosh systems in the Free Mac Software List.)

One of the readers comments below noted that with RSSOwl "you can use the middle mouse button to open the news in an external browser" ....

Not that much out there for Macintosh Users ... and besides: Macintosh COMES with Java (It is integrated into the OS as a development layer.).

PS check for Typos again ... I see "QuiteqRSS" and 2 "QuietRSS" leftover in your review ... (Proofreading is NOT my day job: Dyslexia is a part of my Autism Spectrum disorder ... and I easily get QuietRSS and QuiteRSS scrambled up.)

TAGAP3 (The Apocalyptic Game About Penguins #3) is a Windows 2-D platformer shoot-em-up sequel to TAGAP/TAGAP2

https://www.tagap.net/tagap3.htm

TAGAP3 Continues the Story Arc of TAGAP / TAGAP2 ...

2006 –IAU ridicules Pluto by revoking its planetary status
2015 –NASA's New Horizons probe tries to spy on Pluto
20XX –Planet Pluto responds

And that response is a declaration of war. The only thing standing in between the approaching space penguin army and the unsuspecting Earth is one cyber-penguin, Pablo. Of course, thanks to their Prophet, the Pluto Conclave knows this – and Pablo is thrown into a prison cell before he has any idea of what's going on.

Now, stranded in a prison cell on an alien world, Pablo has to escape, save the world and somehow get back home.

Oh, and in TAGAP 3 You are Pablo. Good luck!

Oh, I hate to see "Candy Crush Saga", or ANY Game by "King" for that matter, listed as a "Free Game" when they are cleverly designed to Make you PAY for virtual Items - power ups like "Gummy Fish" for instance - without which you can't advance very quickly, if at all! I refuse to even start on games that require you to buy intangibles in order to compete with the long time players who already have them! I have better things to spend cash on, like, say: a Gizmos T-Shirt or Cap (hint, hint.)

I'll tell you about a GOOD Free "Swap to make 3-in-a-row" game that runs a lot longer than "King" Branded games & doesn't have any required in game purchases: it's called "Moon Jewels".

Best Free Software for Mac OS 5 years 10 months ago Sea Mac I think so ... but I do not use an iPad or Apple "Mail", myself. Here is how I would theoretically proceed: 1. Get them all in a group. Arrange their sorting order so as to get as many spam messages in a contiguous block as is possible - hopefully they are all marked as junk and you can sort by junk status. You can arrange to sort them by clicking on the tops of the various columns (sender email address/junk status/date/subject/ ... and so on) - which will regroup them by sender or subject ... or whatever. 2. Bulk delete shortcuts On my Mac Desktop I can "Select" a large contiguous block of files in the finder - or messages in my email client (or in quite a few other Mac programs) in one of two ways: Drag Select ... where you hold the left mouse button down while drawing a rectangle that encloses JUST the items you want ... OR Select the first message of the block you want deleted - then HOLD DOWN the Shift Key and click on the last message of the block you want deleted: that selects all messages between the first and last ones. Then click Delete. Go get the iPad Manual: https://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide... and check page 55 Please. "Delete, move, or mark multiple messages. While viewing a list of messages, tap Edit. Select some messages, then choose an action. If you make a mistake, shake iPad immediately to undo." view

Best Free Software for Mac OS 5 years 7 months ago Sea Mac

Apparently this is a 'Yes, BUT ....' program with hidden catches to it ... I'll list it here: BUT with a few caveats.

First thing upon launch: "Phocus wants to access my contacts.". Well. I cannot think of a legitimate purpose that a big camera company (that only has very wealthy clients) would want the name/address/number/department/ETC of everyone I know (presumably all of their wealthy clients never think twice and freely share this information?) - but I can think of several purposes they might use this information for that I might be unhappy about at a later time.

So, NO: they do not get permission from the system to access my contacts - denied!

Then this sneaky program tries to "call home" anyway: behind your back! Thank goodness for "Little Snitch" (I have purchased) warning me about bad activities tried over my internet connection!

Now, there are legitimate reasons a program might want to call home: to check for a newer version of itself is the common usage. But a good developer always warns you, with a prompt or two ... something to the effect of "AnyAPP would like to check for updates. (You must be connected to the internet to continue.)" {CANCEL} { OK } before it snatches at your internet connection, and sometimes the part in parenthesis is in a separate notifier box with {CONTINUE} instead of { OK }.

Having already tried to grab up all my contacts personal information: NOW Phocus will try to transmit information through my internet connection without me noticing it - until it is too late. What say you 'Little Snitch'? DENIED!!!!! Do NOT let Phocus call home, I said.

Now Phocus insists I register it - with my Hasselblad camera serial number, and a whole long user profile - 'for support purposes' (marketing support ... I'll bet): good thing there is a {LATER} Button: or I'd have quit checking this software out and given a failing grade to it right then. It will nag you regularly to register it, you bet!

Finally I get to the Welcome dialog. I checked the program out. It is "Adobe Photoshop" complicated in there: just the way I like it. Seems like well written code - just that it acts snoopy without permission. IF you trust Hasselblad will not snoop through your computer for data: go ahead and install this "Free Download" program.

Thank you for all the useful suggestions .... but a few of your suggestions are old programs that no longer even launch on Mac OS 10.7 or later, or won't work properly on any recent Mac OS.

Take "Juice", from 2005, for example: it won't even launch!

Or your suggestion for "Burn" - which quits in the middle of a Burn - and is no longer supported by the developer: I removed that from this list 2 weeks ago! (and commented on its removal - so no one would suggest it again - in the editor's forum: in a thread with the words Mac and Gory in the title ... please read it?)

And thank you for all the suggested games. But I don't happen to have a spare year handy in which to check to see if they are still working on Mac OS 10.9 ... nor to even post the 100 games in the "Merry Christmas" list I made (in the "Recent Finds" section in the editors forum) - that I know still work because I pre-tested them out FOR Christmas! This is my first time online this week ... my real life has become way too busy to allow me any time online to post new things ANYWHERE.

Pile 'em On!!! But I will not be posting new stuff until I've checked the whole existing list and removed all the posted things that don't work any longer (like Burn). And that's not going to be soon if I only get 3 hours online a week - only by getting up super early at 4 AM some day ....

After I check the existing things on the list to see if they still work, and weed out the remaining non-functional items, then - and only then - will I start weeding out any non-functioning suggestions and adding them to the list. I seem to be the only editor here with a Macintosh - and half of my friends own Macs too - so it falls on me to see if they still work before they are posted. It is a big responsibility ... and weeks of continuous non-stop working just to test the remaining ones ... and I have less time for the internet now than ever before (I'm not liking the fact I can't be here as much as I wish to be ... ).

My hour is up .... see you next week.

No. This entry is a bad joke.

There IS NO Macintosh Binary for this APP! You expect my typical reader to Download the Source package/Check the Hashes to see it hasn't been tampered with/Compile this to MAKE a binary copy/Start the compiled App in the Terminal - all for a Command Line program with NO GUI?

I, myself, have never compiled a package to MAKE a Program: and I do NOT expect my readers to do things I cannot. And I do not use command line programs: you must remember a whole bunch of complicated command line sequences and be a good touch typist as well. Frankly, that stuff went out with DOS 5.0: And I do not care to revisit those days. Programs I will use have Menus and can be controlled with a pointing device: like a mouse, or trackpad, or trackball. And my readers expect the same.

Please, in the future do not post any program as a suggestion for this list for which you must compile your own binary! And, I would highly dissuade you from suggesting anymore command line programs: Because I do not intend to post them unless they really fulfill a critical function that no other program (With a GUI) can match. I want the 10 minutes of my life, that it took me to check this useless entry, Back!

The Best iPad Tips and Tricks [Updated for iOS 7 to 9] 5 years 3 months ago Sea Mac

I had to troubleshoot an unresponsive iPad Mini 3 yesterday and was stumped. It was still under 90 days warranty so I called Apple on it.

I'd TRIED to "Reboot your iPad" as per your article ... but the "Slide to Power Off" slider itself was unresponsive! Apple refers to this procedure as "Restarting your iPad" in the manual. I was unable to restart my friend's iPad: and was STUMPED!

The Apple technician instructed me how to "Reset the iPad": and it brought an otherwise "Dead" iPad Mini 3 back to full use! I thought I knew enough to fix up all of my friends iPhones and iPads already ... with just 2 months of using one under my belt ... but this 'lifesaving' tip was unknown to me!

You try to "Reset" your iOS device JUST Before you take it in for repairs ... we were resigned to taking his dead iPad into the Apple Store for repairs the next day. (it was unable to slide anything to unlock, or power down: but Siri was still alive - and the Screen Shot of the unresponsive Lock Screen worked.)

AFTER I'd learned of it, from the Apple Tech, over the phone: I hunted for it in the Manual - and I found it on Page 455!

I Copy/Paste the page - new tips - you need to add to this article!!!

Restart or Reset iPad
If something isn’t working right, try restarting iPad, forcing an app to quit, or resetting iPad.

Restart iPad. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Force an app to quit. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then hold down the Home button until the app closes.

If you can’t turn off iPad or if the problem continues, you may need to reset iPad. Do this only if you’re unable to restart iPad.

Reset iPad. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

You can reset the word dictionary, network settings, home screen layout, and location warnings. You can also erase all of your content and settings.”

Excerpt From: Apple Inc. “iPad User Guide For iOS 9.” Page 455 - iBooks. https://itun.es/us/U4OT9.l

NOW I feel I'm up to fixing any problem my friends may have with their iOS devices!! So, Please add "Forcing an App to Quit." and "Resetting your iPad." to your tips and Please rename your "Rebooting your iPad." section to "Restarting your iPad." ...

I Hope this Helps!!!

Try the SeaMonkey Suite instead! http://www.seamonkey-project.org/

The search box built into the browser's button bar has 4 default search engines (And you can add many many more): DuckDuckGo / Google / Yahoo! / and WikiPedia. I used the Google engine all the time: but I'm switching to DuckDuckGo for my default search engine now.

(Click) Switching default search engines just took me 3 seconds - I now use DuckDuckGo! Select the default engine from the search box itself. Oh, Yeah: those extensions that Firefox is killing off .... SeaMonkey STILL Supports them!!! https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/

(I’m SURE Mozilla is embarrassed by the fact the SeaMonkey Suite still looks and acts like the original Netscape Communicator Suite but uses modern Firefox code/themes/Plug-Ins/and extensions under the hood. There are no links to SeaMonkey anywhere on Mozilla's site! It's Mozilla's rebellious unwanted stepchild with better features than [even] Chrome! )

Check out the built in Data Manager. EVERY browser should have ALL of the data in one spot - like this - rather than having to crawl all over a bunch of tabs, in the options, to find all these settings. The best browser no one knows about.

I used to use KeePass Safe, but now I use Password Gorilla ( http://www.zdia.de/downloads/gorilla/ ). It is cross-platform for Linux/Windows/and Mac OS X - Source Code available.

I find it to be more useful. You can organize passwords into groups (For Instance: "Web Sites" / "Mobile devices Logins" / "Network Logins" / "MySQL Database passwords" / "Desktop APPs") - and sort on the groups, generate passwords with several options, edit, and add comments to passwords. You can even merge two databases together, which function I use to quickly update older databases, with the latest passwords in the newest database. The Database Merge function also has a comprehensive Conflict Resolving scheme.

The built in help is very detailed. Please, do check it out! I hope you find it as useful as I have found it.   C. Mc.

Download Flash Games to Play on Your Desktop Before Flash Disappears in 2020 1 year 8 months ago Sea Mac

Sounds like Mac Users could use either "PlayOnMac" https://www.playonmac.com/en/ or "Winebottler" http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/downloads to try to run this "Windows ONLY" Application.

If they download JUST the Games themselves (As .SWF Files) ... I play all of my SWF games, on my Mac, with "iSwiff" https://echoone.com/iswiff/ ... which you will want to go get and install, NOW, before Adobe pulls the plug on the format. For years you've helped Me out, and saved my bacon, with your good suggestions. So, I'm honored that I dragged something in that was useful to YOU,  just this once.

But now I'm curious ... what OS are you running? And which of those suggestions was the winner, as far as you were concerned? (I'm on OS X 10.12.6 and "iSwiff" is one of those sweet little 'hidden gems' that I like so much - gotta share that one with my buddies!)

In the future, when you are posting "Windows Only" programs, feel free to add mentions of "Winebottler", and those two "PlayOn ..." Applications: so those of us that are "Windows challenged" might have a shot at using them anyway. This Mac Freeware Category has 3 such choices: https://www.techsupportalert.com/content/best-free-software-mac-os.htm?p...

Mind you, none of those 3 are "perfect" emulators on the Mac (Nor are "Wine" and "PlayOnLinux" perfect emulators on Linux) ... there are going to be SOME programs that just won't work under them. But it sure gives us "Think Different" types a SHOT at getting the program to work for US!

I would just download all 3,000+ SWF files in one massive folder and use

Swiff Player

to play them ... and HOPE that it keeps on using the LAST version Flash Plugin ... forever ...

just as I hope that iSwiff on the Mac does the Same.

(Or I'm gonna miss these games. My Flash Experiences go as far back as "Radiskull and Devil Doll" - from 20 Years Ago ... back when Amazon was still learning to sell books online. Those were Heady days.)

Couldn't get it running on "Sierra" using "PlayOnMac" ...

I DID get the Flashpoint 6 Folder INTO the PlayOnMac "C:/" Drive, though. I MIGHT have gotten it to run but I read the "Read Me" first: and decided not to graft another head onto my shoulders ... (we might argue).

Just get the .swf Game Files themselves from the Flashpoint web site and use "iSwiff" https://echoone.com/iswiff/

 ... on Mac Systems

or "Swiff Player" https://www.globfx.com/products/swfplayer/ , for Windows Boxes, to play 'Em.

Instead: I'm donating hours per week as an editor - that's the only way I can truly support this fine site. I pay my own hosting costs too: and actually dread any of my sites going viral ... I have fixed bandwidth per month and I'd be off the net early each month for the rest of the month! So I know how important paying the servers on time IS ... And Best Wishes to this site and all who work and visit here ... Namaste, Sea Mac view

I wish I could have donated ten times as much - and made it an automatic monthly donation, also. I value this site As Much as I value archive.org !

{I confess: I have been spending more time at archive.org lately than I have been spending here (where's that embarrassed emoji ☺️ ?) - but while that place feels like a vast library of [millions of] wonders ... it is THIS site that feels like a Cozy HOME to me. And though prodigal I may be ... it is to here that my heart (and eventually, my sorry azz) always returns - and I always feel as welcomed again, as the proverbial prodigal one, when I do return.}

Please keep up the good work, everyone!!!!

PS I recommend Ad Nauseum extension - it clicks on every ad on every page (in the background) so that the click counts - causing an "Impression" that means the Ad gets paid to the Site. This also 'Munges the HECK' out of your 'ad trail' ... and adds EVERY Subject - to your "liked Ads" profile ... ruining by 'flooding' ... their carefully built profile of 'your liked ads' - what advertising you have clicked upon.

https://adnauseam.io/

Open Source - and if your site has ads on any page: AdNauseam WILL Click on them for you. The "Anti" Ad Blocker ... it eats EVERY One for breakfast (I swear one site had rotating ads ... and it eventually clicked on several hundred for THEM).

There is a companion extension to AdNauseum (AN), called TrackMeNot (TMN) - that does the same thing, basically, to Search Engine Tracking. They are made by the same developer - with the same purpose - to give you a way to fight back (Passive-Aggressive ... tweak their nose a bit ... ).

https://adnauseam.io   <---- according to this page they are PROUD that Chrome banned them! (Must have Tweaked their nose pretty hard: to get banned. LOL!!!) Darned 'Ankle Biters' drew Blood ... Ha-ha-ha!!!! It validates the AN extension's idea ... kinda proves it works ... and annoyed Google enough: that it tried to swat them the way We would swat a pesky Fly. (FAIL)

https://github.com/dhowe/AdNauseam/wiki/Install-AdNauseam-on-Chrome-With... <---- and clearly have a way to shove it into Google anyway ... Yeah: Google HATES it!!!!

https://trackmenot.io/index.html <---- I am surprised Chrome has not gotten around to banning this one also: Same Developer!!

https://trackmenot.io/faq.html

My 'search history', and the 'ads I've clicked on' list, are thoroughly poisoned beyond their repairing now ... I'd rather corrupt what they intend to collect - than try to stop them from collecting it in the first place (good luck with THAT).

(I'm so pleased to see that Google TRIED to keep the AN extension OUT Of Chrome. Thanks for pointing that out ... knowing about it makes my day. You are right ... it is a GOOD Omen - for Us. I'll bet that the TMN extension isn't in the Chrome extension store either.)

I use Firefox: with both the AN, AND The TMN extensions ... and the default Firefox "anti-Fingerprint" protections switched on ... I sleep well at night. ("I'm not the WO-man they think I am, at all, no no ... " [Rocket Man] )

Chrome NO LONGER has a large selection of extensions! It has made that whole paragraph about how great the extensions are into fiction.

WORSE: Chrome ONCE Again has problems viewing web sites that other browsers have no problem with. Specifically, any sites with Silverlight, or Unity, or Java, or any of the OTHER Common web standards supported by NPAPI Plugins, are no longer viewable in Chrome.  And they are ALL recommending, right on their front pages, that you switch to IE11 Or Safari At ONCE.

I removed Chrome from my system: without NPAPI Plugins or JAVA it is useless and crippled. Time to re-rate this now failed and ONCE Useful Application ... isn't it?

No expert here either, but anonymity is a choice. Those concerned with privacy know how to preserve it, especially torrent users. Education is key. With the way the future is looking, I would suggest to any and everyone, educate yourself about how to be or become anonymous on the Internet, how to get off the radar. I don't think their goal is to keep the program private, but to provide a way to BE private, for those who seek it.

And Rob, thank you for this post. I find it extremely valuable and appreciate it. I have learned much from this site over the years. This is the first time I have posted. It's also the first time I felt I knew enough about the topic to say anything.

For over a decade, the Calvinist in me saw the use of free word processing software. They all drove me nuts, every single one falling over - frequently, across an array of top-end laptops. I moved excitedly from one different brand of word processing software to another to another.

In the finish I gave my money to Microsoft for their Office Suite. What heaven. Rock solid Word and XL. Worth every cent. And the amount of Google help for Word and XL is vast; plus a million macros. Heaven.

I have been a devoted supporter of Gizmo Richards since the days I excitedly looked forward to his monthly newsletter. He has kept me at the leading edge of software for at least a decade. The biggest of thanks and a Merry Xmas Gizmo.

And to Gizmo's helpers like Rob Schifreen, also the biggest thanks. Your guidance is invaluable.

How to Get Help with Windows 8.1 Upgrade Problems 7 years 2 months ago SeamusH

I had no dramas upgrading on my desktop but my netbook, an older MSI, didn't have sufficient screen resolution to open the App Store. While I accept that Windows 8 wasn't recommended for the netbook, I do find it a ludicrous situation whereby your screen resolution prevents you from downloading a file - why can they not provide an alternative link to access via the browser? Why must it only be done through the app? In the end, I got around it by connecting my desktop monitor and, while the download was very slow (6 hours or so), it ran okay thereafter.

BTW, app/screen-resolution issue aside, I can highly recommend running Windows 8/8.1 (with Classic Shell) on a netbook - boot-up times are way faster than XP, although, who knows, maybe it'll fry my CPU one of these days :)

After reading several positive reviews of Microsoft Security Essentials, I decided to give it a shot thinking that my PC would be well protected.

I then came across this article today which I think should be shared will the readers of this forum who believed in MSE. After reading it, I quickly removed the product and switched to Avira Free for now which no longer has the nag screen.

http://dottech.org/130828/microsoft-admits-microsoft-security-essentials...

Since there is now so much controversy, imagined or real concerning MSE and its effectiveness, I think Gizmo should remove MSE as a recommended product until we learn more.

I did read the comments, and the person to who you refer in your quote is different than the one in the quote I mentioned.

Regardless, if Microsoft Programming or Software Managers cannot get their stories straight, they both seem contradictory to me, I would rather deal with a product that is more proven and established as effective.

If you like MSE, then stick with it. It is just a matter of opinion.

view
Best Free Antivirus Software 7 years 3 months ago searchlight

If you look closely at the articles, these are not examples of media manipulating readers but contradictory quotes by Microsoft's own people. That being said, Microsoft should be making one consistant statement across the board regardless of test results or efficacy debates.

If a company cannot, will, or appears not, to stand behind their security product, then I personally am not comfortable using it.

Like I intimated earlier, useage boils down to personal preference.

The Simplest Way To Improve Your Web Browsing Security 5 years 8 months ago searchlight

Beware when installing and/or purchasing a VPN of the limitations imposed by the software vendor. I purchased [edited], and discovered to my dismay that they block outgoing gmail as their VPN was used by spammers. I tried establishing Gmail as an exclusion within the program but that did not work, either. Could not send any outgoing smtp emails using Thunderbird configured for Gmail unless I turned [edited] off.

This was a hassle, so I uninstalled the program, and received a refund.

I am trying VPN browser extensions as a substitute.

If you want something that will work in the interim for your desktop, there is a Gmail Desktop app called GMDesk which you can use instead of your browser.

Since it is direct to Gmail there is no security setting difficulties.

However, it is not a traditional email client.

Here is the link: http://robertnyman.com/gmdesk/

I finally enabled Thunderbird to work with Gmail Enhanced Security. I enabled two-step verification on my Gmail account.

One has to enable two-step verification, and establish an application specific password that you substitute for the regular Gmail password that you inserted in your email client.

I found this link helpful in resetting Thunderbird. Now it works like a charm.

After using 2-step verification with App Specific passwords for several days, I decided to turn it off, and enable access for less secure apps again.

The reason being that every time I went to access Gmail/Google Account with my Desktop at home through my browser, I would receive a call or text for the verification code, even when I checked remember my computer.

At this point, simply a PITA but great if you are rarely home, and on the go, and need to access your account through smartphone or public facilities.

I tried Allway Sync a few years ago and found that it strewed database files all over my hard disk. As a means of keeping track of files in each folder and helping to manage collisions etc it creates a database of all the files, dates etc and stores this database file in each folder.

At the time I decided I didn't want that so I didn't use the software. I am interested to know if it still works in this way.

Best Free Firewall Protection 7 years 7 months ago securityanalyst

Just an FYI about my experience with PrivateFirewall. I run XP Pro SP3 and installed this app b/c I needed to block an app that I bought from checking for updates. I used it for about a week and it hosed the IP stack. I was able to to fix the stack by using an uninstaller that I use to uninstall PrivateFirewall, and then did a system restore to the point before I installed it. Needless to say, I will not soon use another firewall app. Because like an idiot, I installed it on my production PC. I should have ran it in a sandbox but forgot about it. But I also did want to say that the write-up on this app was stellar, and spot on!! Sometimes of course, this sort of thing will happen. But I do know that the IP stack was healthy before I installed the firewall. Thanks for the great site Gizmo!!

For the benefit of those of us who aren't super video geeks, it would be helpful to know what is the best renderer to use?

I'm currently using the instructions from the SVP Wiki [Smooth Video Project] to configure video playback on PotPlayer. I'd appreciate input from those with some video expertise as to whether that is a good way to go? I'd suggest including a clear reason[s] in these recommendations why someone might want to switch software.

According to personal experience, the best computer clock synchronization utility and Windows Service is NTP.

In the install program GUI you can choose the time server(s) that will be used for synchronization. You can later update the time server(s) in the ntp.conf file, which is located in the NTP program's ETC folder. You can do the update using Notepad or Notepad++ programs.

You can download NTP install program at the following web page https://www.meinbergglobal.com/english/sw/ntp.htm.
