I remember when I found AlternativeTo (a long ago) and used it often. But one day I didn't get what I wanted, so I decided to search for another good source of information. Then I found Gizmo! :-)
Since then, Gizmo and AlternativeTo are always on my way. But to be honest, nowadays Gizmo is my main source.
It seems I found the answer for my own question posted yesterday (see below):
"...
Who is vulnerable?
The FREAK attack is possible when a vulnerable browser connects to a susceptible web server—a server that accepts “export-grade” encryption.
...
Chrome for Windows and all modern versions of Firefox are known to be safe. However, even if your browser is safe, certain third-party software, including some anti-virus products and adware programs, can expose you to the attack by intercepting TLS connections from the browser. ..."
Since Firefox is the best browser for privacy and offer many resources for a "clean" web browsing, it's true that an extension like that sounds like something unnecessary. Plus, there are many good utilities that can help in this way.
But it is very good to see and count with a large and diversified number of good options and possibilities. The freedom in choosing what and how we want is unpayable.
From this point of view, I think that Click And Clean and all the other resources that help people are totally welcome.
A long, long ago, I created a BAT file to do something similar to this. I will try Print Flush, probably it is a better solution than mine! :-)
Congratulations to the author, who saw the potential behind the idea, and thank you for sharing with us, rhiannon! ;-)
EDIT (20/10/15):
Hahahahaha! Print Flush does EXACTLY what my BAT does, except by the "Lexmark section". X-D
Even so and once again, thank you Brad Kovach & rhiannon! :-)
the first thing I read today was your message. And your words made my day start better! :-)
Thank you from my heart! And rest assured that I appreciate very much your posts and all you share with us through the years.

Long time Avast is my main choice and recommendation for family, friends and customers. Evaluating pros and cons, I think it is one of the best free antivirus.
A tip for the ones who are annoyed with pop ups: it's possible to configure Avast for showing pop ups for just 1 second.
I am an old school coder. Many years ago I started with Basic, in times when the word "Visual" even exist in the world of personal computers. After I learned to coding in Cobol, dBASE and Clipper. Nowadays I coding in Harbour (a Clipper evolution, in few words). Recently I "played" some hours with Python.
Your article got my attention and I will give a good look at "Coding Ground" as soon as I can.
CCleaner is one of the most light, powerful and useful tools I know. It's worth to remember: it offers other good options, like manage system restore points, searches for duplicate files and analysis of startup programs. Gil Mensch posted in detail about this, below.
To me, CCleaner is a must. I've been using it for years in all the computer that I take for maintenance/optimization. It's a top quality software, without a doubt.
Most of the time, the pre-installed "packs" bring more problems (confusion, annoyance, slowness...) than real good solutions for the maintenance of a stable, fast and efficient OS.
my system is 64-bit Windows 7 as well and GPU Caps Viewer works perfectly, including the newest version. And I already ran it on other 64-bit machines without problems.
I don't know why you had problems, but if you liked it, try to report the error to the developers. By the way, nowadays my GPU is an AMD Radeon R7 260X and I am using the newest drivers.
I have installed Clip Angel a hour ago and, so far, it is being very useful! :-)
I agree with rob: it's a really nice and powerful clipboard manager. Thanks to rob for this article, many thanks to tormozit for the great job! *thumbsup*
How beautiful is the nature... why some people look and see nothing? And so, give no value?
Thank you, rhiannon! For bring us the beauty and the great value... always! :-)
I'm not sure what changes are available between the free versions of Forte 5 and Forte 6 - at least, it wasn't obvious from their promotion of the product. The improved changes all seem to attach only to the commercial versions.
Both free Forte versions are very admirable editors but they have - for me at least - one serious limitation. Neither, as far as I can see, allows for layout adjustment, so you're stuck if you need fewer staff lines to the page (as, e.g., you'll want for many classical guitar scores).
If you're wanting a much more full-featured free notation editor, I'd recommend the latest version of MuseScore - version 2.0 beta 1 - which is, in my experience, even easier to use than Forte. MuseScore allows for layout changes not to mention a wealth of extras for score notation.
I will be 71 this month and not all that smart when it comes to computers. Yes, I can find the "on-off-delete" buttons, but at times I wish there was a place I could kick my computer in the ass so it would do what I wanted it to! It's worse than my Brother-In-Law! This review along with all the comments that followed have given me some great ideas as to the free tools I might use to clear up and fix some of my computer's problems. And yes, some of you are probably laughing and saying to yourselves that none of these programs will fix OPERATOR ERROR type problems. [I spent over 23 years in electronic maintenance in the Air Force and the thing that pissed the Maintenance Chief off the most was to see OPERATOR ERROR on an outage report.] But, I am learning more each day and thanks to sites and articles like this, I'm having less 'downtime'. Merry Christmas, everyone.

I've recently reinstalled uTorrent and tried Tixati. Both of these clients want to communicate with, and receive communication from, over 100 sites (I stopped counting at 100, but there were plenty more after that). What's the deal with that? I find this very intrusive and concerning.
Is there a torrent client that doesn't try to talk to the entire internet, only the site I'm downloading something from?
My ESET Firewall. I understand how bittorrent works (multiple users, etc), but I don't understand why these clients need to talk to 100+ sites during installation and when they're running, but not downloading anything. I never got to the point of actually downloading a torrent.
Zoner Photo Studio (using custom sort), IrfanView, and FastStone Image Viewer (but not XnView) allow you to drag thumbnail images around the screen and change the order in which they are displayed - and then rename them in the new order if you wish. I find this very convenient. Zoner is a big (67 MB) download, it has no portable version, and it requires registration. IrfanView (4.8 MB) and FastStone (8.0 MB) both have portable versions, are much smaller downloads, and do not require registration. IrfanView requires you to open an image then click FileMenu and Thumbnails to display all the images in a folder, which is rather awkward. FastStone looks nicer than Irfan, and it has excellent menu displays if you move the cirsor to the edge of a full-screen image. I therefore use FastStone as my default viewer.
FileHippo App Manager is no longer supported. SUMo has no direct links (even in the paid version).
Patch My PC has direct downloads with silent installation and a good list of programmes. It is clearly the best choice for Windows
https://patchmypc.com/home-updater
Tech Support Guy is excellent. They have helped me several times in the past, and just sorted out a complex problem with a Windows 7 computer in less than 24 hours.
I've spent hours investigating free copy programmes that copy quickly and verify the copy. Both Teracopy and Fastcopy are fast and can be set to automatically verify. Teracopy has the advantage that it integrates into Windows and can be used as the default for all copy/move operations with verify on or off - BUT it hangs when hundreds of files are copied (Google "Teracopy stops"). Fastcopy is not as easy to use (read the detailed instructions), but it is very reliable and has never just stopped even with very large copy jobs - it can also be used with or without verify. I use Teracopy as my usual copy utility, and Fastcopy for large jobs.
I find StripMail (www.stripmail.net) really helpful to convert *any* clipboard content to plaintext (not just from Firefox or emails). It also removes pictures, > and |. I have a shortcut pinned to my taskbar with the target:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\StripMail\stripmail.exe" -d -x
The switches are: -d (Do It All) and -x (Exit)
Both these potentially useful websites seem to be designed primarily for the United States. What services do they provide for other countries, and/or are there similar sites for other countries?
hello
i got tired of Gimp [and it's look-alikes] and I run into Deep Paint 2.0!
I love it! the effects of the brushes are extremely realistic, the texture brushes are easy to use and everythjng is straight forward and medium learning curve. Not alot of photo editing features but you can find and download all kinds of adobe pluggins to customize it doesn't accept adobe actions or do .ico.gifs but it's great.
high memory filter and cloning are not redoable so back the files up before using. brush creation a breeze it's just taking black and white pictures and inverting them[white on black backgrounds] doesn't accept adobe abr brushes but you can convert those to png invert tweak with the contrast and add those to the resource/brush folder user manual built in
For photo editng i use VirtualStudio which also uses adobe pluggins some are more compatible with here than deep paint vice versa. some pluggins do collaging as well try em out!!! edits most formats.still testing out.might take photoshop actions.
Of all the office free ware I prefer the TextMaker. now known as free office.
Lotus, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, OxygenOffice, etc. are practically memory hogging clones!
Everytime I get them I end with some kind of windows error that closes my WinXp Computer.
Lotus Office is the root for all of them and if you choose one choose Lotus to prevent problems
with your system and to save on memory.
Kingoffice Doesn't have the the text color and likes other features.
AbiWriter is clumsy and slow. Very Limited Figures.
Textmaker is a breath of free air. Also hidden in the formats are image tools that like you do all kinds of transparency, photo editing tricks, if you want to freely move the image change the Frame mode and you can type over the image as well.
No fancy plugins and there a limited default text color palette you can always per session edit a color and save it to change text colors.
My vote goes to Softmaker FreeOffice. Sure it may not have all the bells and whistles of the other office listed in this article but. It's easy to use and have enough features for the adverage office user to use. There are many features hidden within it and for selecting colors there's a simple basic Microsoft basic color tool instead of complicated palettes.
WPS is full of crap! Kingsoft so called Antivirus was a backdoor for an virus to get into my computer I don't use their WPS office either because it keeps trying to make one install software from another company that user doesn't need. SSuite office software wants to add an entire "operation system" to your computer loaded with crap you don't need like yet another web browser. Wordgraph is slow and buggy and the features are hard to find.
LibreOffice, Sun (Lotus) Office and Apache Open Office and a lot of others are software clones with different names! These guys are slow and I kept getting freezes and bugs when trying to type a document.
Hi, is there any way when using windows media to create music CDs (with WAV files) I can actually add track names that show when the CD is used? At present all you can see on say a car CD player, is Track 01 Track 02. I am using a CD with the WAV files on as the original master then making duplicate copies, all of which just say the same.?
I have a new Dell Vostro laptop with ELAN touchpad.
The fancy touchpad settings utility that's provided with the laptop has a Palm Tracking option, which I set to "ON" and choose the maximum. When I am typing, the result is a bit better than with minimum, but still terrible.
To make things worse DELL placed the touchpad center NOT alligned with the keyboard center. So when I type it literally forces my right palm to rest on the touchpad.
@Neifer: I am not sure that getting aggressive or pointing at so called "lack of knowledge/experience" lead to any positive thinking. Of course we agree that we can disagree i.e differences of opinion should be encouraged, this is not my point. Moreover, I am not moderator in here and I do not want to be.
Anyhow, this being said, allow me to suggest friendly that statements like "You have any idea what you're talking about?" and others on alike tone, do not bring anything positive. In addition your English is good enough to understand the fact that questioning competence of anyone can not be considered quality arguments.
Not quite so!! Many, including me, use SSD for C drive to keep windows fast enough and SSD are expensive still while Windows is greedy in DISK space on C drive...
Maybe Qihoo 360 Total Security is a good software, but I have some complains. When one searches for files to clean-up, the program might indicate 20Gb to clean up. You do the cleanup and afterwards search again: the same value is displayed, which sounds weird to me. If for some reason, some files can not be cleaned up, fear enough, but then say so or do not put them in the clean-up list.
Hello to everyone! I have a problem and look for help, if possible. I have a dual boot LINUX / /W 10 PC (I7 CPU & 8GB ram). For a long while I used both in dual booted mode without any problems. Since about 10 months, suddenly some W10 updates were available but I had to give them up, because updating starts, reaches 99% and then says that for some "reason" update could not be completed and undoes all updates and restarts. This process take a very long time (> 10-15 m) and thus the only work-around I found was to disable the windows-update service. This is somewhat dangerous security wise in the long run. Interesting enough, not even local m$oft support, which I contacted, could not fix the issue, could not tell me why update process can not completed, and they finally said that (a) they do not support the dual boot systems (b) I have to reinstall windows and drop LINUX dual boot. Does anyone know a work around other then the one I used i.e. disabling the W10 update service? Does anyone knows what stops W10 update to complete? Thanks for your help...SH
It is great, it looks great, so it seems at least.
What is less clear is the main issue: the architecture!. What needs to be installed on PC and on tablet? How communication happened...After extensive search/read/guess...I suspect that both your PC and tablet exchange information via an AirDroid "central service" and it is not clear at all how the information exchanged is secured if at all.....
It is a pity this (marginal issue?) is not clearly mentioned in the description: maybe this is "obvious" for most, not for me....
Thanks for your msg Jojo, I appreciate ! It is true that the added information states that encryption is used till Airdroid central service, so that nobody on internet can have access to exchanged data between your devices (PC, tablet) and Airdroid central service. This said, according to me (if I understood things correctly) one issue remains: the program at Airdroid has access to non-encrypted information, since being at the end of two SSL sessions, it has to swap / copy info from one encrypted session to the other.

Remah,
thanks for your post. But I think you didn't understand my point of view and what I meant.
The comment was succinct and personal. To preserve and keep the focus on the most important thing here: the post from rob.schifreen.
My opinion and your opinion here are secondary. And probably many users were not confused or mistaken after reading what I wrote, like you were.
noneleft, just today I returned here I just now I am reading your post... thank you! :-)
Thank you very much, Gizmo! And keep up the amazing job, day after day! :-)
Repeating a message I left 2 days ago (http://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/chitchat/14743-merry-chri...), a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a NEW YEAR FULL OF JOYS to each of you and to all the ones who are close to you!
HEALTH and PEACE!
Thank you, rhiannon!
HEALTH and PEACE for you! :-)
Very cool, rob!
I cleaned the screen in Breakout a moment ago... very good memories, thank you! :-D

Thank you, rob! :-)
Our point of view makes all the difference.
The origin of this photo is sad but, from that space view, it is a beautiful image.
As usual, thank you, rhiannon! :-)
Great tip rhiannon, thank you! :-)
Isn't Superfish detected and removed by antimalwares like Malwarebytes?
Hehehe!
And I am here, at southern hemisphere, waiting for the arrival of the winter to take away this annoying heat! X-D
Nice pict rhiannon, as usual. Even for the ones tired of summer! :-)
rob,
this is a fix for Windows or for Internet Explorer?
So, the fix is for the system (Windows)?
If an user always browse with Firefox and NEVER use Internet Explorer, for example, is he under risk?
It seems I found the answer for my own question posted yesterday (see below):
"...
Who is vulnerable?
The FREAK attack is possible when a vulnerable browser connects to a susceptible web server—a server that accepts “export-grade” encryption.
...
Chrome for Windows and all modern versions of Firefox are known to be safe. However, even if your browser is safe, certain third-party software, including some anti-virus products and adware programs, can expose you to the attack by intercepting TLS connections from the browser. ..."

Thank you, Jojo! :-)
The boot options seems to be very useful.
Very good, Vic... thank you! :-)
Same error here, but in my case the guilty was Adblock Plus. I just disabled it in the page and worked immediately.
Thank you for sharing, rob! :-)
One more here: I refused to install Windows 8 and I am not enthusiastic with Windows 10.
But this article from Vic Laurie is quite good: thank you, Vic! :-)
Thank you, rob! :-)
That will be useful when my family, friends and customers asking me about Windows 10.
As for myself, I am VERY satisfied using XP (yes!), 7, Ubuntu and Mint.
You are quite right, crosseyedlemon.
That's one of the reasons I became a convinced critic of M$.
By the way, I already installed Classic Shell in so many computers to help people that I can't count anymore.
Thank you for remember us about Classic Shell, Vic! :-)
*thumbs up*
:-)
You are quite right, crosseyedlemon.
When I think about "maybe newer is not better", many examples come to my mind. First of all: Windows.
Nice tip, rob. I will try it... thank you! :-)
I am a big fan and user of keyboard shortcuts since... always!
This list is amazing, surely I will learn more than I already know... many tks, Vic! :-)

A long, long ago, I created a BAT file to do something similar to this. I will try Print Flush, probably it is a better solution than mine! :-)

Not alot of photo editing features but you can find and download all kinds of adobe pluggins to customize it doesn't accept adobe actions or do .ico.gifs but it's great.
high memory filter and cloning are not redoable so back the files up before using. brush creation a breeze it's just taking black and white pictures and inverting them[white on black backgrounds] doesn't accept adobe abr brushes but you can convert those to png invert tweak with the contrast and add those to the resource/brush folder user manual built in
For photo editng i use VirtualStudio which also uses adobe pluggins some are more compatible with here than deep paint vice versa. some pluggins do collaging as well try em out!!! edits most formats.still testing out.might take photoshop actions.
deep paint 2.0 is downloadable from http://download.chip.eu/en/Deep-Paint-2.0_132831.html as Right Hemisphere has a new paid version 3d don't bother registering it.

How smart can these people get?
