I wouldn't say the shutter speed was all THAT slow - look at the waves.

From the general appearance of the image, i'd say that's in Hawaii, and the lava there tends to be quite smooth and fluid.

Lava flows there form tubes, as the outer surface of the tube cools and the interior keeps flowing, leaving a hollow tube.

I didn't know there were different kinds of lava in different parts of the world, that's really interesting.

It could be the shutter speed wasn't all that slow, and no way to know if that's an original image that hasn't been altered. The waves are clear, so... ¯\(º_o)/¯

Nice collection. Wallpaper Abyss has superior quality above the other sites. HOWEVER, be advised it includes several inappropriate scenes, including the "F" word in at least one of them!

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Holiday Wallpaper Roundup 3 years 3 months ago rhiannon

Yep, that's why I mentioned that I came across a wallpaper that contained an expletive in the description of Wallpaper Abyss. I didn't run into any NSFW (not safe for work) scenes but I viewed the first 20+ pages or so of images and saw the one with the expletive (which seems to part of waaaaay too many people's sentences these days for my preferences) in it, thus the warning. :)

Celestial themed images always seem to work well as wallpapers. I think the scientifically inclined would probably use the term 'gibbous' rather than half moon however.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Half Moon Floating in Space 4 years 1 month ago rhiannon Gibbous is a lovely word. I agree, scientifically inclined people likely would use the term gibbous. :-) Personally, since Gizmo's Freeware has a substantive worldwide audience whose first language probably isn't English, I use the clearest and most common terminology to depict the substance of the post so it can be readily understood by as many of our readers as possible. view

Based on information that Alexa analytics provides it appears that only site visitors in India would have a first language other than English and they only represent about 12% of the those that visit this site.

I downloaded this for my Nexus 7 tablet. It looked great, but unlike other wallpaper I've added, this one didn't show any of my apps, and I didn't see any instructions for what to do to get the apps on my home screen. Moreover, now I can't even find the wallpaper on my tablet. It isn't with all the others. I should add that this is the first time I've added wallpaper from outside the Play Store, so if there's something extra I need to do, I'd like to know what it is.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Dim, Creaky Library Bookshelves 4 years 6 months ago rhiannon

I don't have the answer to that one, does anyone else know?

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Dim, Creaky Library Bookshelves 4 years 6 months ago Anupam

What do you mean by "this one didn't show any of my apps"? Wallpaper is just supposed to act as wallpaper, and not show apps. It's not clear what you mean.

Also, since you downloaded this wallpaper from a site and not from Play Store, then most likely it's in the Downloads folder. Since it's downloaded, it won't show up in the default list of wallpapers. You have to locate the image, and manually set it as wallpaper from the options.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Dim, Creaky Library Bookshelves 4 years 6 months ago Jojo Yee

I guess the way cyberqueen describes is applicable to "live wallpapers" which function like an app as those listed here.

Unlike live wallpapers, a static wallpaper is not an app and has no animation effects. It applies a single picture or an image file like the one shown in this article for wallpaper.

After an image file is saved or downloaded, go to Gallery and select that image, tap "More" and select "Set as wallpaper". The steps here may vary depending on the Android version you use.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Dim, Creaky Library Bookshelves 4 years 6 months ago cyberqueen

Thanks very much, Anupam and Jojo Yee, for your replies. Jojo, after reading your message, I realized that I may not have actually downloaded the file, so I tried again, and following your instructions, I did succeed in setting it as wallpaper. And once I had set it as the wallpaper I wanted for my tablet's home screen, all the app icons I had put on the home screen appeared on it. And it looked awful! Perhaps if I had organized my home screen differently (hiding most icons inside a launcher, for example), a busy design would be fine, but since I'd rather have immediate access to my favorite apps, I've put their icons on the home screen, and they need a much less busy background (like the one I had before I changed it to the library wallpaper). Anyway, I've gone back to my previous wallpaper but saved the library one in case I ever move to a launcher.

Thanks again, guys, for your help. I realize now that I didn't explain myself very well and hence sounded even more clueless than I was. :-)

I understand. A friend's father lived there. He got out but it was a near thing. It was a week before they knew if he was alive or if they would have to submit DNA samples. The anguish and the not knowing was so horrible for them.

Nice wallpaper. Except for the Crows. Like a lot of pics, fauna detracts from the content. Photo touchup!
And yes, it's a disaster in Paradise. But all the rain and cold in the NE U.S.A. is the pits too. You'd think the rain could have been caused to fall in the West. No brown lawns this year.

Wallpaper of the Week: Delightful Spring Tulips 4 years 2 weeks ago rhiannon Oh dear...maybe you could just real real quick turn off your monitor if one of them happens to appear. Many of the macho guys I know create awesome gardens and landscapes, including flowers. They cook (and some wear manly type aprons). They wear pink and other colors with no fear. Maybe your buddies need to expand their horizons? Or, just blame it all on me because I'm tired of cold weather. And I simply adore flowers, possibly more than I love computers. :) view

I also cook everything in our house, spend ages in the garden growing stuff and love to shop. If my wife spends the whole day looking for shoes but can't find any she likes, I'm still pleased to have been there. Conversely, I fish, drink beer at weekends until it comes out of my ears and I'm very effective with a 9mm handgun and 30 cal rifle. Folks therefore find it hard to categorize me as a person and I should worry about that why? :D MC - Site Manager.
