Our point of view makes all the difference.

The origin of this photo is sad but, from that space view, it is a beautiful image.

As usual, thank you, rhiannon! :-)

Wallpaper of the Week: Forest Fires From Space 4 years 11 months ago rhiannon I totally agree. I live in an area prone to wildfires, some of them fairly small and some of them gobbling up miles and miles of land. Other adjacent states are prone to wildfires and well, and if the wind gets up, the smoke blows here. Not great to breathe, but makes amazing sunsets. :) view

I doubt that is actually an image of Earth, as you can tell that half the image is mirrored off an axis that runs about 45 degrees through the sphere. Still useful as a wallpaper if none of that matters to you though.

Wallpaper of the Week: Dim, Creaky Library Bookshelves 4 years 4 months ago cyberqueen

I downloaded this for my Nexus 7 tablet. It looked great, but unlike other wallpaper I've added, this one didn't show any of my apps, and I didn't see any instructions for what to do to get the apps on my home screen. Moreover, now I can't even find the wallpaper on my tablet. It isn't with all the others. I should add that this is the first time I've added wallpaper from outside the Play Store, so if there's something extra I need to do, I'd like to know what it is.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Dim, Creaky Library Bookshelves 4 years 4 months ago rhiannon

I don't have the answer to that one, does anyone else know?

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Dim, Creaky Library Bookshelves 4 years 4 months ago Anupam

What do you mean by "this one didn't show any of my apps"? Wallpaper is just supposed to act as wallpaper, and not show apps. It's not clear what you mean.

Also, since you downloaded this wallpaper from a site and not from Play Store, then most likely it's in the Downloads folder. Since it's downloaded, it won't show up in the default list of wallpapers. You have to locate the image, and manually set it as wallpaper from the options.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Dim, Creaky Library Bookshelves 4 years 4 months ago Jojo Yee

I guess the way cyberqueen describes is applicable to "live wallpapers" which function like an app as those listed here.

Unlike live wallpapers, a static wallpaper is not an app and has no animation effects. It applies a single picture or an image file like the one shown in this article for wallpaper.

After an image file is saved or downloaded, go to Gallery and select that image, tap "More" and select "Set as wallpaper". The steps here may vary depending on the Android version you use.

Thanks very much, Anupam and Jojo Yee, for your replies. Jojo, after reading your message, I realized that I may not have actually downloaded the file, so I tried again, and following your instructions, I did succeed in setting it as wallpaper. And once I had set it as the wallpaper I wanted for my tablet's home screen, all the app icons I had put on the home screen appeared on it. And it looked awful! Perhaps if I had organized my home screen differently (hiding most icons inside a launcher, for example), a busy design would be fine, but since I'd rather have immediate access to my favorite apps, I've put their icons on the home screen, and they need a much less busy background (like the one I had before I changed it to the library wallpaper). Anyway, I've gone back to my previous wallpaper but saved the library one in case I ever move to a launcher.

Thanks again, guys, for your help. I realize now that I didn't explain myself very well and hence sounded even more clueless than I was. :-)

I understand. A friend's father lived there. He got out but it was a near thing. It was a week before they knew if he was alive or if they would have to submit DNA samples. The anguish and the not knowing was so horrible for them.

Nice wallpaper. Except for the Crows. Like a lot of pics, fauna detracts from the content. Photo touchup!
And yes, it's a disaster in Paradise. But all the rain and cold in the NE U.S.A. is the pits too. You'd think the rain could have been caused to fall in the West. No brown lawns this year.

Wallpaper of the Week: Delightful Spring Tulips 3 years 10 months ago rhiannon Oh dear...maybe you could just real real quick turn off your monitor if one of them happens to appear. Many of the macho guys I know create awesome gardens and landscapes, including flowers. They cook (and some wear manly type aprons). They wear pink and other colors with no fear. Maybe your buddies need to expand their horizons? Or, just blame it all on me because I'm tired of cold weather. And I simply adore flowers, possibly more than I love computers. :) view

I agree with Rhiannon. Either find some more respectful buddies or stop caring what they think. :)
This is my current wallpaper.

I also cook everything in our house, spend ages in the garden growing stuff and love to shop. If my wife spends the whole day looking for shoes but can't find any she likes, I'm still pleased to have been there. Conversely, I fish, drink beer at weekends until it comes out of my ears and I'm very effective with a 9mm handgun and 30 cal rifle. Folks therefore find it hard to categorize me as a person and I should worry about that why? :D MC - Site Manager.

Thanx for this one rhiannon...I have always wanted to go to a library like this. Bring a sleeping bag, a cooler for food and drink and my MP3. Then I'd start at the top, working my way down each section. Can you imagine what treats we could find there? Guess I'd also have bring lots of tissues and allergy pills since I can also imagine the dust. Of course, a place like this would also have a cat or two...

I realize your not a scientist but I don't see any evidence of an impact (which would result in some type of stress fracture at the point of contact). I think it more likely that there is some unseen force to the left of the clear orb drawing matter in that direction.

Ah, I've managed to bring yet another soul over the dark side. :-) I'm happy to hear you like it. It's a good background for people who don't use wallpaper much, or at all (which, I hasten to add, is perfectly fine). The other wallpaper I mention is darker, with fewer details, has fewer bright areas and adds small touch of color.
