All About the Windows 10 Upgrade App Including How to Get Rid of it | 5 years 7 months ago | drkarasheed |
It was heard that those with 'Pirated Versions' of Win_7 or Win_8 or 8.1, are also going to have an option for a free upgrade ? |

Selecting Hide... in the customise notification area window only has effect until the computer is restarted, it reappears with "show icon and notifications" enabled after a shutdown/restart. Even selecting "only show notificatios" resets after a restart. Even though I have reserved the upgrade the icon is still there and a message about it now shows in Control Panel/Windows Update instead of the normal "No Updates/Updates available" dialogue. |

That's a really silly reason to run Linux. You can easily install VLC or PotPlayer to run DVDs, which most of the people running Windows do anyways.. they are much better than WMP. |

I've never had a Windows upgrade forced on me before. I prefer the classic desktop. I know nothing about Windows 10 figuring I'd wait and see what others thought about it first before even considering upgrading. Is there a classic desktop option available in Windows 10 or must we learn how to use the computer all over again. Thank goodness for "Classic Shell" or I'd be lost. |

Thanks for your msg Jojo, I appreciate ! It is true that the added information states that encryption is used till Airdroid central service, so that nobody on internet can have access to exchanged data between your devices (PC, tablet) and Airdroid central service. This said, according to me (if I understood things correctly) one issue remains: the program at Airdroid has access to non-encrypted information, since being at the end of two SSL sessions, it has to swap / copy info from one encrypted session to the other. |

I've used CamScanner for years and it seems to work beautifully. Unlike Adobe Scan, it isn't tied to the Adobe Cloud, but although it shows you the result of your OCR scan, the ability to share the OCR results is a Premium (paid) feature. |

I want to share an external hard drive that contains my Vuze downloads between 2 Mac computers. I created the files on the external on one computer but the other computer Vuze copy can see the downloads even though I've input the right volumes. Is there a trick? |
view |
Additional Vuze Settings | 7 years 9 months ago | mr6n8 | I assume you mean "the other computer Vuze copy" can't "see the downloads" I also assume the external is connected to the computer in question. Since you have already added the torrent to that Vuze, you can try the context menu entry for the torrent (a right-click in Windows - not sure in Mac) Advanced>Files>Move Data Files and choose the directory containing the content. If that does not work, then remove the torrent from that Vuze and see below. If it is completed, then you need to be in Mode of intermediate or advanced http://wiki.vuze.com/w/UG_Options#Mode_options Add the torrent to Vuze using File>Open>Torrent File (Ctrl+O) http://wiki.vuze.com/w/UG_Menus#File_Menu This presents you with an Add Torrent screen where you can choose the save directory. You will need to set the "Add Mode" to "Seeding" (Only visible in intermediate or advanced mode) http://wiki.vuze.com/w/Seed_an_existing_file If you choose the directory containing the content, Vuze should recognize it and adjust the %. There are some issues with Mac on resuming a partially completed torrent that might change this procedure a little even on a completed download. http://wiki.vuze.com/w/How_do_you_resume#Mac_OS_X BTW I am on the road and on a WiFi right now and may not be able to get back quickly if you have more Qs. Additional Vuze Settings | 7 years 9 months ago | jcar |
I'm still confused by all the options to choose from. Usually on a Mac, you tell it where the directory is and it always remembers. In this case there are 3 different places where I can tell it where the Vuze/downloads directory on the external HD is, I delete the original Vuze/downloads directory from the user/library (created when I downloaded Vuze to the 2nd computer) and when I restart Vuze on the 2nd computer, it recreates the deleted directory and replaces all the parameters I changed back to the original directory location. When I changed the directory location on computer 1 to the external HD, there was no problem. The downloaded movies appeared in the library. No so with computer 2 using the same external HD... Jim |

Add This $15.99 Computer Book To Your Collection For Free | 3 years 6 months ago | classicggma65 |
Got to jump through a few hoops to get this...Have to fill out the form with your business info in it and All fields Must be filled in. Since I sign petitions, I'm used to fudging info so I don't get unwanted calls or mail from nonprofits. I used one of my alias email addresses-yes, it's working and current. Then, my address doesn't contain the north, south, etc direction or apt number when filled in. The zipcode of 99999 was accepted. I did have to put a valid phone number...hate having to do that as I have an unpublished number so used a very old number...yes, know it's not cool. After filling in my "job" info, I was told to verify my email address then I could download the book. Had to sign in with my email to access "my library" but the book did download to my computer. This is more than I would ever do to get a free book...and not something worth the time having to put in so much personal info. Hopefully it will be worth it...looking forward to explanations that aren't so technical. Thanx...but won't do this again... |

Add Text, Or Info About Your PC, To Your Desktop | 6 years 8 months ago | Australia |
BGInfo is a great way to have information visible on the Windows desktop, is very customisable, and even better, its "portable" I can change the text size, font, colour, and choose any or all of the Windows system information options And as Rob suggests, I can remove ALL the computer information and just have other information, such as a to do list for the day, or a list of quotations, or anything I like ! However, readers would appreciate knowing that this program makes changes to the registry, and that once you use this program, it is not immediately obvious how to "uninstall the program" After reading BGInfo's homepage and the homepage's recommended reading site, I was still unsure how to uninstall this program Thankfully, I found the answer in the Help section of the program: Something also not clear - how can we get BGInfo to "display the contents of a text file". Sounds very useful, for example to display a regularly updated text file of events for the current calendar month. The instructions were not simply explained Thanks Rob for yet another marvellous Hot Find, you are amazing, and a much valued asset to the TechSupportAlert website I rate BGInfo a 10/10 for being portable, and so very customisable ! And correct me if I'm wrong, but BgInfo uses NO system resources ! So I rate it a 10+/10 ! Using BGInfo and another freeware program "Photo On Desktop-7", which allows me the very basic but essential task of floating any chosen image on my computer screen (eg a to do list, or a loved ones photo), and my daily organisation skills are enhanced greatly ! I have no affiliation with either program |

I used Everything for a long time. But, a few years ago I found Wizfile https://antibody-software.com/wizfile/ It indexes the entire disk in a coupla seconds. It won's search across disks, which I think Everything can do. But, it's so fast that that doesn't really matter. The same company also has Wiztree, which replaces windirstat. Same thing, just a few secs, and it's done. Both are fully functional shareware, so free to try out. Not affiliated, just a user/customer. |
