That's a really silly reason to run Linux. You can easily install VLC or PotPlayer to run DVDs, which most of the people running Windows do anyways.. they are much better than WMP.

It is great, it looks great, so it seems at least.
What is less clear is the main issue: the architecture!. What needs to be installed on PC and on tablet? How communication happened...After extensive search/read/guess...I suspect that both your PC and tablet exchange information via an AirDroid "central service" and it is not clear at all how the information exchanged is secured if at all.....
It is a pity this (marginal issue?) is not clearly mentioned in the description: maybe this is "obvious" for most, not for me....

It is true that the added information states that encryption is used till Airdroid central service, so that nobody on internet can have access to exchanged data between your devices (PC, tablet) and Airdroid central service. This said, according to me (if I understood things correctly) one issue remains: the program at Airdroid has access to non-encrypted information, since being at the end of two SSL sessions, it has to swap / copy info from one encrypted session to the other.

I've used CamScanner for years and it seems to work beautifully. Unlike Adobe Scan, it isn't tied to the Adobe Cloud, but although it shows you the result of your OCR scan, the ability to share the OCR results is a Premium (paid) feature.

I am troubled that the articles pro and against IP filtering are SEVEN YEARS OLD! I really would hope there would be something much more current on the subject. I personally use IP filters because, hey--how could it hurt NOT TO?
I also use an anonymous proxy (usually out of China or Russia) in my P2P client and I verify it with a torrent IP checker (IPmagnet).
I have never in six years of downloading torrents, received one of those letters from my ISP.

BGInfo is a great way to have information visible on the Windows desktop, is very customisable, and even better, its "portable"

I can change the text size, font, colour, and choose any or all of the Windows system information options

And as Rob suggests, I can remove ALL the computer information and just have other information, such as a to do list for the day, or a list of quotations, or anything I like !

However, readers would appreciate knowing that this program makes changes to the registry, and that once you use this program, it is not immediately obvious how to "uninstall the program"

After reading BGInfo's homepage and the homepage's recommended reading site, I was still unsure how to uninstall this program

Thankfully, I found the answer in the Help section of the program:
"BGInfo does not require any special installation. To run it simply execute BGINFO.EXE from a convenient location.
To uninstall, delete BGINFO.EXE and reset your system's wallpaper using Windows' Desktop Properties dialog"

Something also not clear - how can we get BGInfo to "display the contents of a text file". Sounds very useful, for example to display a regularly updated text file of events for the current calendar month. The instructions were not simply explained

And correct me if I'm wrong, but BgInfo uses NO system resources ! So I rate it a 10+/10 !

Using BGInfo and another freeware program "Photo On Desktop-7", which allows me the very basic but essential task of floating any chosen image on my computer screen (eg a to do list, or a loved ones photo), and my daily organisation skills are enhanced greatly !

Thanks but it didn't work...I managed to delete it (at first it said can't delete, file open in wallpapers), but the background text is still there on my wallpaper....

Try the drop down arrow next to 'Image/texture'. Tons of options.

Simply #Exit, then delete the folder. It's portable so there's no install.

Me too. The toolbar interface is different than pinning the program to the taskbar but it's very well implemented I think. I've been using it for a few weeks and haven't found any hiccups. Nicely done.

I've had Everything pinned totaskbar taskbar for years. This creates a toolbar on the taskbar. I haven't tried UltraSearch in a long time, I'll have tontake another look at it. :)

I used Everything for a long time. But, a few years ago I found Wizfile https://antibody-software.com/wizfile/ It indexes the entire disk in a coupla seconds. It won's search across disks, which I think Everything can do. But, it's so fast that that doesn't really matter.

The same company also has Wiztree, which replaces windirstat. Same thing, just a few secs, and it's done.

Both are fully functional shareware, so free to try out.
