Hi,
I would like to be able to make an app for myself which displays daily pollen counts. For whatever reason, in my part of the country (Australia), there is not an app which shows this type of local information which is so important for us asthma and hayfever sufferers.
So my question would be is this where I would begin to learn how to make an app, as I have no idea what C#, ASP.NET or .NET actually are?
I don't use Winbdows and this thread is a bit old now but unless they've changed the opt-out system since, you might find your answer here. MC - Site Manager. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=177231.0
C# is a programming language, ASP.NET is a framework to produce web sites, applications and services. .NET is also a framework, all are created by Microsoft.
I'm not sure what would work the best to create the app you want. Maybe someone here would know.
I track pollen in my area at https://www.wunderground.com/. They are global with many local sites. They are quite accurate in this area, and often list what is blooming in addition to type (trees, grass, weed) and how high the counts are.
Thanks for the reply. I'm in Adelaide and currently, there is no local app, but according to Asthma Australia there soon will be one, which for me will be a blessing.
I have also d/l the app from Plume https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plumelabs.air which seems to be okay.
I'm also a member of WU, which also has lots of useful info.
Hello.
Does anyone manage to make this prog work?
On opening the site, I get a poster-like image without any indication of "Record", "now share your screen", "Scrnrcrd" Tabs etc...
(Complete "dummy"). No error message appears. I tried Left & Right click, all in vain. What am I not doing right?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Kind regards.
Do you have an ablocker or other extensions/add-ons that might be interfering? Which browser are you using?
I tested it in 5 different browsers and it worked in all of them, some I disabled adblocking and some I didn't. It ran with uBlock Origin installed and enabled.
I checked the URL but here's the direct link in case that's an issue: https://scrnrcrd.com/
Hello again.
Thank you many times. Following your advice, I managed to record a test.
Now I have to familiarise myself with it & iron "teething"* problems.

Also, many thanks for your hard & wonderful work in bringing us all those very interesting & useful programs.

Hello again.

Thank you very much for your help. I will try these and let you know of the outcome
Thank you again.

For folks that don't know, you can do conversions and calcs in the google search bar. You can also ask Alexa (or OK Google, or Siri I presume) to do conversions which is probably the fastest way to get an answer (though not good for calcs except for simple ones.)
Yes, you can do many things using Google search and that's a good feature. DuckDuckGo has a similar function.
If you prefer more privacy using Google, you can use encrypted Google to search: https://www.google.com/webhp
For some reason, I am getting a Server not found message on 10/7 at 2:19 UTC. I have tried it both in Firefox and Edge. I'll try again in half a day, then if that doesn't work, then a tomorrow.
Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to scrnrcrd.com. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.
I've updated the article to include the error message appearing only in Firefox. As MC says, I assumed that the site cetificate wasn't renewed or there was another benign error since virustotal didn't flag it and no other browsers gave a warning of any kind. The site is safe as far as I have been able to determine. As always, use your own best judgement whether to proceed or not.
I'll add that Firefox has repeatedly flagged sites that I've been visiting for years, indicating they are so dangerous Firefox would not let me add an exception and proceed to the site. I had to use other browsers to visit the site (none of which displayed an error message and which virustotal rated as safe). If Firefox throws a security warning I automatically assume it's an error on Mozilla's end, though I visit the site using a few other browsers and virustotal to be sure.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Interesting. Searching Softpedia for this product returns a page with an internal download link from Softpedia which also works but when I copied this page URL into our product details the link returns a 'page removed permanently' message. What an excellent find Rhiannon. Probably in the top 5 Hot Finds in the last 5 years
What I like?
Free, so far !
Simple right click option
Effective and fast, with instant results for single files
A Windows utility; rather than an upload service which grabs your personal photos, and can be shut down at any time
Probably a utility I would be using every week
The homepage feedback does suggest doing a backup of your original photos, and rotate a copy of your collection, in case of corruption
You can avoid the interaction with that list and let closeall close everything without any second interaction by adding "/NOUI" to the target location:
https://www.ntwind.com/software/closeall.html

Maybe it's a false positive, but Malwarebytes flagged the pothos.info site. See below warning:
Website blocked due to a suspicious top level domain (TLD)
You're welcome Peter, I'm happy you like it. I like it because you don't have to hunt around to find what you want, it's all right there, a click away.
I did see their other freebies and checked them out. I didn't download and test Red Button or Christmas Elf but the others seemed ok. I liked the Click and Relax.
Agreed MC. :)
Pothos is not the site I wrote up, however, I did visit all the listings offered on Pothos and ran the site through VirusTotal and it came up clean. That's one of the things I normally do before I write anything up - there's a lot of checking, testing, double checking, and research that goes into what I post, it's not quick or casual. For example, I tested every one of the 55 tools on Mara photos to make sure each worked and did what it said it did and to make sure there were no image quality issues that I could detect. With that said, I still miss things sometimes, and I'm grateful for the people who point out the errors. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There's also quite a few programs and sites that don't make it all the way through testing for one reason or another.
I didn't download or test either of the programs that were listed on Pothos (Red Button and Christmas Elf).
Are you searching for Alexa experts who can help you in doing Alexa Setup? Your search ends here. You have reached the right place. Alexa helpline is the best company that can help you in that. Our expert technicians can provide you proper guidance So that you will not face any Alexa related issues again in the future. https://alexahelpline.com/
I'm not seeing a big red download button on the Mara Photo site: https://mara.photos/
To use any of the tools, just click or tap the name of the tool and will open inside your browser. You can upload an image and use any of the tools to edit or create effects for your image.
The top of this article is a screenshot of what the page looks like.
For some reason site contact form won't load, and nor will the 'contact individual author'. So no choice but to communicate here:
Dear Gizmo's writers,
sorry to seem to quibble. I speak from a place of genuine suffering: plurals don't get apostrophes (e.g "CDs")

With many computer users being moderately aware of the way that malware/hacks work, but even more so - worried about the consequences of infection, this article was well worded in terms of highlighting the dangers of exploitation. If the packet were to be retained in a file locally or if the receiving domain could be hacked/spoofed either server side or in the download - this could ramp up the number of initial targets by denoting vulnerable systems per the outdated applications. Even if you're a paranoid bugger, manually deciding on each and every packet that passes through your firewall - if you expected OC to interact with the web or even just explorer - you could have your vulnerabilities in a nice little bundle waiting for someone to figure out how to scoop up.
I really like clockify.com. It offers a start and stop button as well as the ability to enter times and dates manually. It's simple to use and has a nice clean interface and simple, clear reporting.
I have always used [commercial product]: none better, even though Ducklink Screencapture is alive in the systray to capture irregular shapes if desired, which it never has been.
The one thing that makes [commercial product] indispensable for me is the 'capture scrolling window' facility. If something comes along that does that better I'll grab it, but so far nothing has. Does Sharex do this?
{Moderator's Note: Commercial product name edited out. Not allowed.}
twas free when i first got it
I use a simple firewall (Simplewall) to enable and disable applications from accesing the internet with just 'one click'. Could be really useful to the newbies.
This article inspired me to finally do something about several programs I use that phone home. The ghacks article makes creating appropriate rules easy. Thank you!
Just tried it in Win 7 Ultimate and it works fine. Thanks for the tip. If a user is in a country that does not use his native language and he has the language settings for the local country, he can change the program to English in Sage Thumbs Options, the bottom item in the Sage Thumbs menu as rhiannon shows in the image near the top of this thread.
Yet another free extension I would like to mention here is 'Tagging for windows' (https://tagging.connectpaste.com). Tags can be applied to all files and folders and it provides a kind of virtual folder with all tagged items.
Please always clarify what is the privacy policy regarding these websites which ask you to upload photos
Specifically can your photos be used in the development of facial recognition technology software
I trust you do understand the implications of peoples photos being used in this way
This is just one extract from their Privacy Policy.
“None of this information is “personal data” – that is, data we could use to identify a specific person. Some of this information could, however, become personal data because we provide automatically collected anonymous data to third party advertisers to supplement the tracking information described below, and those third parties might be able to combine our anonymous data with other data they have to enable them to identify people.”
Basically this absolves them from everything and anything even when you understand that how privacy rules are implemented varies between countries.
In reality anything you post online is likely to be used by individuals or companies should they attach value to it for their own ends and the only way to prevent this is not to post it. It doesn’t matter how many rules are broken when the servers in question are based in the Ukraine or Vietnam. :)
Hi All, just wanted to say that following Gizmo's recommendation I've been using FreeFileSync very happily for years. Just decided to donate to them as thanks for wonderful Open Source freeware.

I have used Speccy for years. Today I noticed it hasn't been updated since 2018 AND the portable version is no longer available from the site. Piriform was purchased by Avast. I suspect that may have something to do with it. All the tool downloads are now on CCleaner.com. (Forums still on piriform.com.) I swear it does not give as much info as it used to? It still gives some good info but I think I will try HWInfo instead of Speccy. (Note the company's CCLeaner still seems good at least for now.)
I am not clear why the review says "Very few filter options". I can add whatever I want to the filter between Compare and Synchronise which works fine. What filter options do you want that you can't add?
I can back up my four drives to bitlocker protected external drives in four minutes.
The great thing about Techsupportalert is that when discussing computer software, reviewers always mention that software has been scanned and it doesn’t contain malware. In other words it probably functions as you expect without uploading data back to developers or coinstalls bad code
Unfortunately when it comes to online sites that upload your personal data (and photos are very personal data) there is no similar warning about how our photos potentially are being used. Online sites in my opinion pose an equal risk as installed software and malware
We have already learned that many sites are harvesting peoples facial photos and selling them to companies that are creating facial recognition software for government, policing and commercial uses.
It’s time we stop uploading our photos to anonymous websites. We have become so permissive to this practice
Even Facebook and Instagram are probably harvesting people’s photos for this reason
In 2019 you would be crazy to be giving strangers your most personal data. Yet everyone does it and we encourage people to do so
This is a list of the most recently posted comments on the site sorted so that the most recent comments appear first.
You can however sort the list on Article title by clicking on the column heading. To see actual comments click the + sign.
Thanks bunches. I'm not going to mention how many times I read that and it slipped right past my eyes. :-O
These look really good thanks.
Going to show them to my 16 yr old Daughter and see if she wants to do a few together.

Neat program, and monitoring comms with NetWorx it appears that nothing is sent from your computer.
About to uninstall AVAST as every time it updates, it installs Chrome automatically. Can't find a way to stop it so will replace it.

Maybe it's a false positive, but Malwarebytes flagged the pothos.info site. See below warning:

Of all the confusing commercial security software folks insist on paying for Malwarebytes tops the list. It's riddled with false positives and even if users read the documentation 95% of them will not be able to understand how these results are generated. This makes it IMO totally useless as a security tool. Forticlient Free 6.0 will give you better and more accurate results plus it provides custom settings for your web filters.

Thanks for the good stuff.
Corrected. That one slid right by me. Thanks for mentioning it, it's appreciated. :)
Ms. rhiannon,
what a find, THANK YOU.
I wish I had the time to try it right away but no luck.

{Moderator's Note: Commercial product name edited out. Not allowed.}
twas free when i first got it
I use a simple firewall (Simplewall) to enable and disable applications from accesing the internet with just 'one click'. Could be really useful to the newbies.
I hope you find time to try it. :)
It looks good, I'll check it out. Thanks.
That "cold night" is impressive rhiannon!
Rather kewl as some would say. ;)
I'm glad you like it. :)
The photographer has some amazing shots on his site (link above).
This article inspired me to finally do something about several programs I use that phone home. The ghacks article makes creating appropriate rules easy. Thank you!
You're welcome. It's good to get to those little things that get put off. :)
I use Windows10firewall control works great for me...
This is a great add on
Thanks for posting it
Just tried it in Win 7 Ultimate and it works fine. Thanks for the tip. If a user is in a country that does not use his native language and he has the language settings for the local country, he can change the program to English in Sage Thumbs Options, the bottom item in the Sage Thumbs menu as rhiannon shows in the image near the top of this thread.
Thanks for the suggestion. :)
I'm glad to hear it's working in Windows 7. It does have language support options, thanks for mentioning it.
You're quite welcome. I'm happy you like it. :)
Yet another free extension I would like to mention here is 'Tagging for windows' (https://tagging.connectpaste.com). Tags can be applied to all files and folders and it provides a kind of virtual folder with all tagged items.
Thanks

Yet everyone does it and we encourage people to do so
Good resource - thanks
Ms. rhiannon,
again one of your finds that make me elevate the pedestal I have you on anyway! ;-)
Thank you!
