Great game, but has anybody found any instructions for how to play this game?? How, for example, can one learn about these "loads more variations"? Does the game vary with each round? When does a round end? NOTE FOR NEWBIES: The hexes that fill up a line don't have to be all the same color.
Thanks. I played two games after the news last night. The second game I did well. I meant to go to bed before 1:30, but when I finished the second game I checked the clock and it was 3:10! I had no idea. Oh well, I scored 46,640. :-)
I kept the same game going for several days until it just beat me, score 197,330. I captured the screen for proof, but don't know how to post it in this comment, or even if that would be allowed.

Jojo or anyone else had any experience with Master Password? It can be found at masterpasswordapp dot com. It looks like a unique and secure method of password generation. It appears to suffer from the clipboard fault highlighted in this article.
I'm enjoying this addictive game. Thanks. The computer wins more than I do, but I'm getting better. I won three in a row yesterday. I think my best win was 35 to 23.
Disappointed at this news. It was one of the main reasons why we purchased Alexa devices. Now we won't be able to listen to our owned music? Not cool.
** Update ** Thanks for the reply via Facebook. I didn't notice the option to keep songs that are already uploaded. So glad I saw this article before April 7th.
I bought additional dot's to play tunes throughout the house. Subsequently this was announced.
Very disappointed in Amazon. Fortunately, Google Music let's you upload thousands of your songs for free.
I uploaded over 10,000 and made a lot of playlists. I now have 3 Google Home devices for playback.
By the way, the Google devices are rapidly catching up to Alexa's compatibility to control other devices.
Amazon's allowance of uploaded songs was 250, quite different from Google. From what I can gather, this was done to weed out inactive accounts where the MP3's were taking up space. Might have been a lot of accounts, given how much server space amazon has and sells. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't know about unfair, but you've got Finland listed twice, where it should only be once...the correct countries are SWEDEN, USA, NETHERLANDS and FINLAND!
I tried one during it's beta & it may have been the one you were speaking of: fontifier? I think?
Can you tell me if the letters need to be centred in each square for even the symbols? I recall that when I did the one from before, the quotes mark was too low & comma too high-- if you know what I mean? Can you elaborate?
If it's like other font-generation programs, position them as if the test baseline ran across the block about a third of the way up - lower-case letters ought sit on that line and go up to about one-third down from the top, which leaves room for ascenders and descenders; comma and period should sit at the point where the baseline would be, quote and apostrophe should be about one-third from the top of the box.
I'll go download a template and come back and amplify this a bit.
===========
Okay; i looked at the templates, and they have tick marks for baseline, ascender and descender height and so on.
For me, this site is more good idea than definitely doable, and for the reason that some have mentioned - if you don't have a steady hand and eye, getting each character to line up, look connected to adjoining letters, and be smoothly drawn is downright difficult. My results were also on the horrendous / unusable side of the results scale.
@Fairportfan: It may be simple, at least in theory, but easy to accomplish / get good results, its nowhere near being simple.
I've uploaded a sample of my handwriting font, created with a very similar program (quite possibly the same software they're using) a year ago, to my webhosting at http://electronictiger.net/handrot.jpg
===========
Don't try to produce true cursive with connected letters.
If you have problems getting the letters to line up on the grid, write all the characters separately on paper, scan it, and then copy/paste appropriately-resized images of each one into the image of the template.
(I did that once to produce a "ransom note" font using letters cut from newspapers and magazines.)
Okay. I tried it. Just a quick'n'dirty; i only generated the numbers 0 to 9 and the letters to write a short sentence.
I tried it twice - once using a black ballpoint and one using a fine-point Sharpie. I wasn't particularly careful about my penmanship, either.
Not counting the trip to the store to buy a marker and pen (thirty minutes), and arguing with my DTP software as to whether they were fonts it wanted to admit existed (other programs had no problems; i guess Serif PagePlus is snooty), total time involved in making this limited character set was about twenty minutes, counting making the scans.
(When i was actually making the fonts, i noticed that they offer the templates as PNG images; as i said before, if you download those, you can copy/paste individual images into the blocks if you are having trouble writing in them on the template itself.)
Remember to print the templates in colour - actually, i don't know if it will make a difference, but the faint images in each block are red to make them less likely to reproduce.
Do NOT scan in B&W mode - greyscale is preferable, but they say you can get away with colour.
I scanned at 300 DPI.
Hope this helps.
(I'm working on a very large set, with numerous special characters; when i finish it, i'll post the results online and link 'em here.)
Worked fine for me in Opera, and in Firefox and (though i use it only reluctantly, and generally only to check websites) in IE.
=============
Try clicking the "Create Template" button. If that works, it's not locked up, just strangely designed.
While you're at the first page, try typing characters that aren't already shown in the block, and they should go into the list to be on the template, even there's no cursor there.
I used a black, fine point, BiC Mark-it pen. The 5 or so letters that did come out well were beautiful and well formed. But the rest of the letters that did not (they showed up as blank rectangles) made me quit my efforts.
I can't understand why only some letters appeared and not others, when this is a *hand* writing font, and theoretically anything that's in the box, regardless of shape, should show up.
Yup, I tried a different browser and got it going. I forgot to come back and say that. Must have been one of those wonderful computer enhancements seemingly built into every program - - - I call them "Glitches."
Due to the fact that i used a paint program to size the characters accurately to paste them into the PNG of the template, some of them vary a bit in stroke weight. Otherwise, came out pretty good: http://electronictiger.net/fullfont.jpg
I should have used quadrille paper or something with guidelines, rather than a blank sheet when i printed the initial characters.
Hi electronictiger,
That link of you led me to one of the most funny, creative and yet informative 404 pages I've ever seen.
It put a big smile on my face.
I checked it out and love it. Everyone can tell you're a sports nut because your handwriting is doing the wave!
I'm going to try it and hope mine turns out that unique.
I was thinking about using it for emails or applications for government forms BUT; if the receiver doesn't have that font on their computer, it gets replaced by Calabini or Times Roman or ...
BUT THEN AGAIN... could save it as an html document in Word and send it in email.
You probably worked harder when you used the software before. The result is really nice. I struggled with a font editing software years ago too but the results weren't really worth the trouble.
I'm glad this service is up so I can give it another go. I had different reasons to want my personal font back then, but now it would be great to use on my personal blog as a custom web font. Thank you Rob for sharing it with us!
PaintFont.com is now https://www.calligraphr.com/ - with extra features and (supposedly) an easier UI.
============
An update. I have created an account (which the new page requires), and, while you can create fonts for free, there are limits on the free version nowadays:
1 font
75 characters (no ligatures) per font.
3 variants per characters .
There is a paid version without such limits, which is available by the month (no subscription, pay for just the month)
Okay - might want to take it off the site - the 75 characters you are allowed is too few to create a font with upper and lower case letters, numbers and basic punctuation, which comes to 80 characters.
So, basically, it's not free any more. It was fun while it lasted.
Great find Rob, and thank you
I have been looking for a good calendar on the web for years
These calendars are available in both Excel and Word formats, and are extremely professional in their design
And just as importantly, no adware, no trial period, nor a need to provide personal information first
One minor flaw, which is feedback more for the website creators
Unless I am mistaken, these calendars only provide the day layout Sunday - Saturday
Many people prefer the day layout of Monday - Sunday, not Sunday - Saturday, with their calendars and diaries
I have had to redesign the downloaded calendar, to suit my preference
I found the Excel spreadsheet easier to modify than the Word version
Your passion in making our computing lives easier is much appreciated, and thanks again
Checked out the site literally as you suggested - Nigeria. The "information" about Nigeria was shallow, full of cliches and glib statements "...Nigeria is home to a substantial network of organized crime, active especially in drug trafficking..." - first entry. Compare with Wikipedia that starts out "...Nigeria, officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a federal constitutional republic comprising 36 states and its Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The country is located in West Africa and shares land borders with the Republic of Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the north...". There is more to Nigeria than some purported 'substantial network of organized crime', just there is more to the USA than its well-known network of organized crime.
It's a sure bet I won't be going there again, and yes, I am a Nigerian.
Did a quick search on Malmö, Sweden and the search engine didnt like that. Changed the search to Malmo, Sweden and yes, up popped a few bubbles. Sadly most of the bubbles kept trying to push me to Copenhagen!
Copenhagen is in Denmark and Malmö is in Sweden!
Not so impressed at the moment.
This site really works for me. I have trouble searching the web as I either over a defined or miss defined my search parameters. My first few attempts with Grok have been outstanding and really easy. I sent copies to all my Grandkids and friends. It is a great site for me.
I am 75 years old and while not too old to learn I found the Google power search course difficult. I hope that you are wrong about the six-month thing. Learning how to search the web is an important part of web utilization. Ray
Its really quite easy Ray if you just remember to localise your search by (most important) date to avoid irrelevant pages submitted long ago (most of the web) and to remember to use '+' '-' quote marks etc. Its all very logical. I often use the images section straight off....drag an image into the search box and be amazed. The recommended site, whatever its called(?) when asked "best widescreen tv 2013" earlier, the top article offered was written in 2007! By using the google tools provided at the top of the search page, I can home in on blogs, news, reviews, discussions, best prices, restrict dates, all within a fraction of a second. It fine tunes rather than spins off at tangents.
I'm not a google fan boy, far from it. but its hard to see how the featured site could cause anything but misinformation and frustration. You only get from the web a proportional response to the information you submit
Your response is what I've been told by more literate friends and I'll go through the help menu on Google and try some more. I use Parenthesis and Quotes quit a bit but often forget the + sign. I remember trying to find the "date 90 from today". I worked & worked ending up with counting on a calendar. I told a friend and they type in about half the words I used and had an immediate answer. Friend suggested I was over stating my question. Thanks for the tip, I'll try some more. Ray
Sorry, olad. I guess, like any search system, it's not infallible and it depends how you use it. And for what it's worth, my wife's Nigerian by birth. I should have checked with her!
Useless at this moment, and don't even dare to use a foreign word no matter how simple it is, I tried "chango" (monkey in Spanish) and it brought me all kind of nonsense except anything related to the animal. I better use the regular Google in the meantime.
Wow, yo must be about my age bracket (70-75)!
I remember the expression and use it in my own thinking but never out loud; people just wouldn't grok it...
13 Jul 2016 Took forever to create an account, but all is well that ends well. I have "used" you so many times over these last years of learning how to use a PC at 73 y.o. Thank you for the way you have of explaining things and proposing such interesting and helpful things to try. Today I am going to try your 3D recommendation...this should be fun! a giz
Jesus loves you. a.
As always, I appreciate Rob's finds. I checked out the website. A few odd things caught my eye.
First, lossless streaming through their web player on the PC platform is only supported on Chrome. That's not the only way you can listen, however. Second, when you click on the "Press" link in the Menu section, all of the articles are from 2015. It makes me wonder about the service a little bit.
A good thing: Supposedly you can import playlists from other services you might use, like Spotify, or from your own locally-stored music files.
If you are into this sort of thing, the service is probably worth checking out.
I opted to use on my Andoid phone, but I cannot login to the app despite receiving a welcome email. I have submitted a support ticket... on Christmas Day! Not a good start. :-(
PS From a wave to a ripple!!
PPS It is now Boxing Day and I still can't login to the app. ;-(
I've been a paid subscriber to Tidal for nearly a year now and love it. I use it to stream uncompressed audio to my home-built hi-fi and the audio quality is wonderful and is essentially indistinguishable from playing direct from CD. By comparison, compressed streams from Spotify sound markedly inferior to CD.
That's only when using a decent set of speakers and amps. Played through my computer speakers I can hear no difference between compressed and uncompressed music streams. So the moral is clear: if you can't hear a difference when playing through your speakers then there is no point paying for a high quality streaming music service.
Recently found an email from Tidal re my inability to kogin to their andropid app: the email told me to login! I then attempted to reply to the email, but was told my support ticket was no longer valid. :-(
The app has now been, unsurprislingly, uninstalled from my phone whilst I listen to Simon & Garfunkel's, The Sound Of Silence. ;-)
You're welcome. :)

Doesn't work for me. I get a black screen; the music works and I can click on stuff on the screen but can't see anything. Same with the card game.
Thanks. I played two games after the news last night. The second game I did well. I meant to go to bed before 1:30, but when I finished the second game I checked the clock and it was 3:10! I had no idea. Oh well, I scored 46,640. :-)
Webroot blocks this site as containing "suspicious content" - any ideas what that might be?
It is completely safe. I find if an installed antimalware program is difficult to understand or gives too many false positives, it is better to change it for something else. I use Panda free which consistently outperforms most everything else, paid or otherwise. MC - Site Manager.

You said all, rob. Just a few more words: great pastime, cool simple game!
Thank you! :-)
I just had my best win yet against the computer, 42 to 16!
Excellent little game, Rob! Quite like Othello/Reversi, but the 1 or 2 square move choice is a nice little twist.

It might let some people down.
Or it could raise your spirits.

What browser?
Worked fine for me in Opera, and in Firefox and (though i use it only reluctantly, and generally only to check websites) in IE.

Try clicking the "Create Template" button. If that works, it's not locked up, just strangely designed.

Awful site, in 6 months you'll never hear of it again.

I remember trying to find the "date 90 from today". I worked & worked ending up with counting on a calendar. I told a friend and they type in about half the words I used and had an immediate answer. Friend suggested I was over stating my question. Thanks for the tip, I'll try some more. Ray
I remember the expression and use it in my own thinking but never out loud; people just wouldn't grok it...
eikelein, wow, indeed, I'll be 61 next month. I read Stranger In A Strange Land way back when I was in college on G.I. benefits.
13 Jul 2016 Took forever to create an account, but all is well that ends well. I have "used" you so many times over these last years of learning how to use a PC at 73 y.o. Thank you for the way you have of explaining things and proposing such interesting and helpful things to try. Today I am going to try your 3D recommendation...this should be fun! a giz
Jesus loves you. a.
This is amazing. Offers tons of enhancements, and it's free!
A VPN with Ads ? So much for the "ad block" and our privacy.
I think the con "Monthly file copy limit of 40,000 files" is outdated.
PPS It is now Boxing Day and I still can't login to the app. ;-(
Recently found an email from Tidal re my inability to kogin to their andropid app: the email told me to login! I then attempted to reply to the email, but was told my support ticket was no longer valid. :-(
The app has now been, unsurprislingly, uninstalled from my phone whilst I listen to Simon & Garfunkel's, The Sound Of Silence. ;-)
That IS a pile of tutorials and some great stuff in there
Thanks
There are a bunch. :)
Great resource! Thanks!
How do you download the index as a PDF or XLS file? I can only see that I can "Save as..." HTML.
You're welcome. :)
If you scroll down to the bottom of the page the download and Google Sheets links are below the tutorials and above the tutorial categories.
Oh yes, now I see it! Thanks!
You're very welcome.
