The link here to Glory Logic for pdf shaper leads to a 404. Any links on the 404 page I tried also lead to 404 page.

II did find pdf shaper at pdfshaper.com and there is still a "free version" link to download without optional offers as mentioned in other comment.
I believe this is the same product as here. I have been using pdf shaper for a while after reading about it here.
https://www.pdfshaper.com/download.html

If it is the same product, there no longer is an option to convert to RTF in free version, only converts to text and image in free version.
I came here because I thought I was able to convert in previous versions and I guess I was right.
Not sure when they eliminated that

2 major points of Signal to add to your description IMHO:

1) it is not tied to any DataLoss Leaders with proven track records of privacy violations

2) you can use it including with VoIP phone numbers unlike whatsapp/viber etc... This is especially important for preserving proper big data cross references against metadata.

I checked this on Windows 7 and Linux Mint:

In Firefox 72, click on the hamburger menu, --> Preferences>-->Files and applications--> Applications--> mailto. Then select GMail or Yahoo, or other, in the dropdown.

Worked like a charm. Oddly, it took me a few minutes to find a webpage with a mailto: tag. Nobody likes spam.

I'll do the same. I found a few more things yesterday, but none of them worked. There's a way to open the old version of default programs through the Run box, but when I do that, the old version loads and then in a flash the Settings version opens even with elevated privileges.

This is all wonderful stuff, but if you have Windows 10, you already have (FREE!) Windows Remote Access built in, and you won't have to download and install anything else. It's also very simple to use - the instructions are here:

I have used that before with a client, and it worked quite well. That was a few years ago, and I'm about to try it again now.

Hope this helps!

I like Linux and I have nothing against it. But, one of the reason that totally puts me off is the fan boy attitude of Linux users. This comment of yours is really useless regarding the query of the user. Find other ways to promote Linux. Such fan boy comments do not help Linux at all... it does the opposite.

The only option I can think of to set Firefox to open .eml files. If you have or can create/save an email on your computer in the .eml format you can choose what to open it with. Directions here:

It seems that missing mailto protocol on Windows 7 is an issue. I would ask first if you checked every entry to the end of all of the default programs? If I recall correctly there's more than one section (I think the second section is protocols and that's where the mailto should be) that's sorted alphabetically. I've missed something more than once by not going through the whole thing. I can't verify that, as Windows 10 isn't sorted that way.
Also check that email programs are available in the default programs - it will go something like this: Default Programs applet >Set program access and computer defaults>  Expand the Custom selection.

I found one suggestion that looks workable. I don't have Windows 7 so I can't test it, and I recommend a back up and/or making a restore point before making any changes.
1. Brink (sevenforums, tenforums, etc) has a reg file that should restore the protocol. I've downloaded reg and bat files from his sites for years and they've all been safe. The reg file sets Windows Live Mail as the program, but if the mailto protocol is restored you can change it in default programs. It's in the 4th post. The thread might be worth a read:
Mailto protocol missing Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

If that doesn't work, the registry key might be missing or corrupted. Click Start, type regedit, and choose it when it appears in the list. If you make any changes back up registry first: Inside regedit, click File > Export.
The key should be here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell\open\command\ <default email>

If it's missing, I'm not sure how to restore it in Windows 7. You can search or you can do an in place reinstall of Windows 7.
Directions are here, I would create a back up of the whole hard drive before doing a reinstall.
https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Even after completing Step 1, the only Windows 10 default email app options available for me (step 2 above) are: 'Outlook' and 'Look for an app in the Microsoft Store'. I use Firefox, and it's set as the default browser. Any way to add Firefox as a default email app option? I've seen posts where people suggest regedit changes. Is that the option?

A Perfect Contact Management System for Small Businesses

Till 1990, every big and small business used to collect customer contacts by manually visiting client sites. Business cards and paper forms used to be the highest means of customer data. But during the age of the internet, a single sign-up form, a product purchase using email IDs, an online community account and social media accounts are major databases of customer contacts.

In the previous article, we understood what a contact management system is and how it impacts an organisation’s inbound marketing activities. In this article, we will understand reasons for a small business to consider building a perfect contact management system.

Before that, let us understand – What is a Contact?

A Contact can be explained as anyone who receives the end result of marketing, sales, or engagement activities conducted by a company. If a company targets potential customers individually as per buyer persona or if the customers interact with a business due to the result of a mass marketing, everyone becomes a contact for the company.

However, the contact needs to be frequently updated based on the stage of the buying process. Tracking all these activities is called Stage Tracking, and this tracking becomes an input for improving an existing contact management system.

What is a ‘perfect’ contact management system?

As explained earlier, a contact management system is a foundation of storing, updating and adding customer details as per recent interaction. It is a database that mostly, during initial days, contains common customer information across industries – Email ID, First Name, Last Name, Contact Number, Address, Payment Options, etc.

However, as you keep upgrading this system to become an integral part of your Customer Relationship Management (CRM), then you try to fetch further more information, such as – how they are responding to your marketing strategies? How are they engaging with the contents posted on social media networks? Which page did they visit frequently on your site? Which product did they search for on your site? Did they buy the product or added the product in the cart and forgot? What information did they query while interacting with customer care? What’s that status of any issue reported by the customer?

You're more than welcome. Waterfox branched into two versions in October, the Classic is a legacy version that will support older standards and will be actively maintained. The Current branch is focusing on keeping up to date with the modern web and a fully customisable web browser to go with it. Naming and versioning are also mentioned, hopefully that will answer your question about the versions.
Both can be downloaded here:
https://www.waterfox.net/releases/
You can read more at the site blog: Waterfox 2019.10 Release | Waterfox Web Browser
Waterfox does import your Firefox data on install if Firefox is installed on your system, but it doesn't update anything after initial import.

There is a vulnerability in Firefox. Mozilla has released a patched version. If you use Firefox, it’s a good idea to update or download a new version, according to how you prefer to update Firefox.
Both update and download are mentioned in the article because people use both ways to update.
I’m not suggesting any options for anyone. I'm suggesting get the patched version, however you prefer to do that.
Whether it's through an update (automatically or manually inside the browser while it's running), downloading and installing the new version over the old version, or performing a clean install, it's a good idea to get the patched version in whatever way works for you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I supplied the link to the official Firefox site for downloading all languages/platforms so people don't have to search for it, if they prefer to download Firefox.

When Firefox went from version 70.0.1 to the next version, it totally trashed itself. Tons of complaints on the Mozilla forum. For me it destroyed my userChrome file by ignoring it altogether and my user interface was completely changed tabs, color, everything. I always have updated with no problems until then. I disabled updates in the registry and will not ever update again until they hire some people that know what they're doing. I now keep all important stuff on an external hard drive and it only gets turned on if I need something and I get it and shut off very quickly.

Let me clarify something, if I may. I mentioned in the article that the site has the directions to reverse this, and I was assuming you went to the site, used the directions, and it still didn't work? If I'm off track then may I suggest you use the process on the Trish Tech site to reverse the process?  Here's the directions to reverse the process from the Trish Tech site (link in the article if you'd rather get them from there):

How to Restore SearchUI.exe Back?
Many people have asked how can they restore SearchUI.exe back. In order to restore it, you have to rename the SearchUI.exe file back to it’s original name.

  1. Start elevated command prompt. In order to do so, press the Win+X key combination and then choose Command prompt (Admin) from the menu that shows up on your screen.
  2. In the command prompt window type this command and press Enter:
    cd %windir%\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy
    rename SearchUI.exe.001 SearchUI.exe
  3. Restart Windows and SearchUI.exe will begin working again.

I agree Astrolabe.

As with many things it’s a given the media will make the most of any natural disaster for their own purposes so we should always expect sensationalism and exaggeration to be part of their reporting strategy.

I’m originally from the UK and as a keen angler I hated it every year when the rivers were dredged and the weeds cut making these areas un-fishable until everything had moved downstream. Now this doesn’t happen anymore because it costs money. Over the same period thousands of houses have been built on flood plains and the combined effect with the lack of waterways maintenance has made the annual flooding worse, but still it always happened naturally. Just look at the locations of the affected areas and you see places such as ‘Water Lane”, “Bankside” and “Riverdale” etc. These names have been in place like for ever and were originally chosen for a good reason. :)

Now I’ve been living in Brazil for the past 16 years and every year we have the ‘fire season’ in the Amazon region. Almost certainly human intervention has conspired to make this worse but it’s still a natural event although you would never know that from the international press reports and ‘celebrity’ lectures. Here also they allow properties to be built in high risk areas for land slippage and yet it’s a ‘major disaster’ when a few hundred slide down a mountain or a poorly maintained dam bursts.

This is not to diminish in any way the pain and loss caused to those affected but the reasons why and potential preventative measures are highly complex. Unfortunately most of the more effective potential solutions are also the most costly and approval for this level of expenditure is never going to get passed by any mainstream political group. MC - Site Manager.

view
Happy New Year and Happy New Decade Greetings from Gizmo 1 month 1 week ago Astrolabe

I don't think it will be any fun in South Eastern Australia right now but I do so wish you people would stop using the term "unprecedented". These fires are absolutely not unprecedented. It is so easy to check and see there have been devastating fires just about every decade in recorded history. What is likely to have led to these seeming to much worse is the mismanagement of the National Parks, something not being readily reported in the mainstream.
Just stop and consider, the eucalyptus has evolved to thrive as a result of wild fire. This evolution has occurred over millions of years - hardly as a result of human intervention.

Over many years the worst was WPS, you couldnt pay me enough to trust their dirty tricks .
- if it is not free, don't sabotage the results with water marks. Do they persist with this behiour ?

Apache OpenOffice & LibreOffice ( they are related in an historical way) never appeared to get their acts right
LO forum was not easy to use, especially for novices. AOO forum was far more user friendly.
Its a shame they went their own separate ways.

For a few years I used [ Free Softmaker Office ] they didnt realy nag, just the occassional new product push.
Then in Nov-2018 Softmaker offered their office suite for $25 aud (about $20 usd at the time) which was at about a 75% discount.
I jumped at the opportunity.
Over the years I have found German software (not all of it) to be very well planned and documented. Yes I am a DE fan.

[ Free Softmaker 2016] was adequate at the time and being forced to register to use it, paid off in a significan discount.
Softmaker serves my needs well ... I would be over the moon if my 2yr build Addon for Excel would play with "Planner" :(

Prevent Microsoft from Installing Edge Chromium on Windows 10 1 month 2 weeks ago TexasVet

Hey folks, thanks for all you do. I am running Windows 10 1803. I downloaded the toolkit to a new folder, ran the exe as admin, opened an admin cmd prompt, entered the .cmd string with /b at the end.
I got this response EdgeChromium_Blocker.cmd is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I can't tell I did anything wrong or out of sequence so...

I don't use MS Edge so it doesn't really matter. Firefox is current browser.

How to Report Malware or False Positives to Multiple Antivirus Vendors 1 month 2 weeks ago MidnightCowboy As was stated in the original article this link was left out because it had a 'red' rating from WOT (Web Of Trust). The link now returns a marginal rating from WOT in which case we now find it acceptable to publish. The WOT rating relates to concerns about past practices associated with the Rising company. How to Disable SearchUI.exe in Windows 10 1 month 2 weeks ago rhiannon

Oh thank you for your kind words. :)

I would not be at all surprised if this surfaces again after updates. Other things pop up after updates that I thought I'd disabled so one more wouldn't be a shock. :) I keep batch and reg files in a folder, ready for reuse. ¯\(°_o)/¯

Permanent might be too much to hope for. I ran the batch file last year, but I checked today after reading your article and found the old renamed file but also a new instance of searchui.exe. I am guessing that it is something that is reinstalled occasionally when Windows is updated. I have a script that I run at start up and will add a line to check if the file exists. Thank you much for the reminder, and thank you much for the many helpful hints that you have shared over the years.

Best Free Antivirus Software 1 month 2 weeks ago NotSoSure

So, this is your idea of a review summary? On this page (techsupportalert.com/best-free-anti-virus-software.html), you list 5 programs, one with 5 stars, two with 4.5 stars, and two with 4 stars. I followed the link from the program with 5 stars (Read Full Review) because I was interested, and it took me to a page that repeated the same summary info on the product with a few more fruitless links and no more detailed info. How are your readers supposed to make informed decisions when links from "summaries" to more detail produce nothing?

Thank you Gizmo!

Although humanity's outlook is (as you rightly pointed out) quite bleak, as long as there is life, there will be hope.
This helps me to overcome paralyzing pessimistic sentiments.
There is no denying that we are heading at an ever-increasing pace, to a stronger tyranny led by the powers that be.
But as with any mafia, there will come a pivotal time when they will battle amongst themselves and unfortunately, the ordinary population will suffer the consequences - but a new day will come out of these ashes!
Common good and respect for the rights and dignity of each person will prevail!

Prayers for Australians and others who suffer such atrocities you mentioned.

I didn't know you were from Australia . Everyone in Canada that I know is wishing Australia well. The two biggest problems we all face today is climate change ( man made or natural) its still a serious problem . The second problem is the uneven distribution of wealth which is causing political problems just about everywhere,
and some climate deniers will use the second issue to do nothing about the first . One day hopefully reason will return .
