I need to reinstall Windows 7 on my PC. My personal folders (My Music, Desktop, My Documetscs, etc) were moved to drive D:. Now the question is how to tell reinstalled Windows 7 where these default folders are in order to gain acces to them.
Hello every one
I have stuck in one problem since last week. I have forgotten my Admin account password for my Windows 8.1 PC. But i have access to guest account and i can Login in to pc using guest account. I want to reset my Windows 8.1 Admin account password . I have tried lots of solution but nothing worked so if any body has solution please share it.Microsoft is suggesting to re install windows 8.1 in my condition so please help me guys.
Thanks in advance
When you say "Windows' sort of clumsy basic method...", are you referring to the Snipping Tool? In Win10, it has matured a bit and allows delayed screenshots.
does this work on windows 10. I live in a 55 and older cond. We have a clubhouse that is too small. I would like to figure a way of maybe making it a bit larger. I am 82 yrs old and have exposure to cad.
Using Firefox for about 3-4 years now, very good.
But, what really disappointed me is that Firefox always hang when Flash contents are loaded. Flashblock can no longer block Youtube on latest Firefox 21 beta.
Internet Explorer is a very good option, with its deep integration with Windows 7, and is the first browser that I had ever used and know, and seems most friendly with screen readers.
But, IE has limited number of add ons, and I need to use third-party programs to back up my profile!
Chrome looks interesting, but screen reader, particularly Jaws, does not work too well with it, but at least it does not hang when Flash contents are loaded, and like FF it has dozens of extensions, the combined address and search box is very cool (IE has it too), the sync feature rocks, and starts up very fast.
Now I don't know whether to remain using Firefox or go back to IE. I will have to leave Chrome out until screen reader support has improved.
Oh wow, it worked! Thanks very much for this tip! I didn't even know that this feature was there!
Mozilla should make it visible to normal users though, since normal users would probably not bother with about:config thing; rather, they will probably look under Firefox options window.
I would agree on those points, but I think the reason for Firefox's slow startup is because it have to load its components, while with IE some components of the browser is already loaded along with Windows.
Now I'm using IE, and I like its Windows intigration features, but too bad few sites took advantage of it.
I do still like Firefox for its customization and no rebooting the system when installing, and also of its huge add on directory, and also its rapid development cycle compared to that of IE.
Also, IE have 1 very annoying problem, and that is it loads some unnecessary iFrames and adds, even with the 'do not track' feature enabled, while Firefox didn't and so thus loads a bit faster.
After my try with Avira, I am now considering whether I should change my AV. I like MSE for its non-intrusiveness, but the new versions rarely get released. Avira, on the other hands, has new versions more often, but it may have some annoying popups that I may not like too much.
I'm on a core I5 with 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate X64, and MSE didn't seem to eat too much resources, but I've heard from some of the comments that Avira doesn't use up as much resources as MSE.
Rocketdock is great, but after I reformatted my PC, I felt too lazy to install it, Windows 7's superbar is great with jumplists similar to OSX's dock (although less customizable). For me the Windows 7 taskbar is more than enough, the higher your screen resolution is, the more that can fit on the taskbar.
I have to agree with those points. Rocketdock is indeed the greatest, as I've seen it featured in almost all Windows - Mac transformation packs/tutorials.
Also one unique feature is that I can pin specific files to Rocketdock while the Windows 7 taskbar can't!
Although, I may decide to install Rocketdock later, if I feel that I want something cool for my desktop.
One question, are any of these still in development? Rocketdock I think has no updates for several years and it kinds of becoming outdated.
The statement that Foobar 2000 cannot convert files is not true. I've tried and I was able to convert .m4a files into .mp3 ; although you need the Lame binaries though for it to work, but it's very good - it preserves embedded album images when converting, unlike NCH Switch Sound File Convertor.
Good idea,
But what about those visually impaired? They can't physically write things down; me included. Using Keepass is good idea, but if they, like me, have long passwords and they need to show the actual password to let screen readers read to them, then that's not safe, since everyone in the room can hear the actual password being read out loud.
Google Keep is also good, most important for me is to keep notes across all devices, I just keep random notes, copy web snippets, reminder, alarm, etc. don't need editing, so Keep is perfect for me.

HI I have downloaded this extension for OpenOffice but I am damned if I can get it to do anything with a .pdf. I downloaded it an installed it, closed and opened Open Office again, then went to extension manager, and it seems it is indeed installed (although I didn't get a chance to "enable" it...but when I open Draw and try to "Open" my .pdf document (that I want to edit, in that I want to take text from it and put it into a WORD document), it gives me a a document with a number of pages in it that contain complete gobbledygook for the first few lines and then leave the rest of the page blank, and the document contains a number of pages like this. The original .pdf document is quite long. How can I correct this, is this plug-in not supposed to just open the .pdf document in "OpenOffice Draw"? What am I doing wrong?
Many thanks.
Thanks for your consideration Kyengineer, and I understand the timeline to review.
Yes Conformal Systems is the software developer, and at this point Cyphertite is their flagship multi-platform software. They have other open source software available to the public as well, focused on web security and tracking.
I am really sorry to say that i found this article really poor, there's not any observation about the use of resources for each of these browsers, nor about the actual performance of each in comparison with others, all was in an anecdotal level and then there's not much anecdote either. I was happy when I found this article but got quite disappointed with the actual content.
"Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition" has a serious problem, I tested it on three different computers running Windows 7 x64, and on each one the program/installer was in Romanian and the option to change the language was greyed out, this issue has been there ever since it came out and I never managed to find a solution for it.
Also, I'd like to know your thoughts on "ZoneAlarm® Free Antivirus + Firewall 2015" I've used it in the past and my experience with it was quite positive.
Thanks for pointing that out, I will check the other article.
One more thing, I'm curious as to why "MSE" isn't included in that list? From my experience it's an excellent set-and-forget antivirus and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it has been integrated in Windows 8 and higher.
I am still curious as to why "MSE" isn't included in that list? It remains to this day one of my favorites and from my experience it proved to be an excellent set-and-forget free antivirus.
Also, could you state which antivirus require yearly (free) registration (such as Avast) in order to continue to function? Because the "set-and-forget" is an important factor for me since I tend to install AV on several PCs.
Thanks for the clarifying that, it's good to know.
What about my second question? It's really crucial for my choice process.
"Also, could you state which antivirus require yearly (free) registration (such as Avast) in order to continue to function? Because the "set-and-forget" is an important factor for me since I tend to install AV on several PCs."
I tried it today briefly but it was disappointing. During the initial scan it stated that it found and cleaned 16 infected files which is highly unlikley considering the semi-empty PC I was testing it on, but even when I opened its log, it was empty. Also, the fact it has no options to speak of leaves a lot to be desired.
You stated that "Ninja Download" doesn't support IE, but according to the download page, it supports IE out of the box.
In any case, I tried briefly but it was disappointing. It has several flaws, some of which you mentioned already, but there are two particular flaws that were a deal breaker for me.
1) The automatic categorization for downloads seems to be broken, more often than not it would give me the category of "None" regardless of the extension of the file I'm downloading.
2) The integration does not work unless "Ninja Download" is running in the background. If you close it, then the integration either doesn't work or gives you an error. I shouldn't have to keep it open 24/7 in the background, I certainly don't need to do that with FDM.
In any case, it looked promising, but FDM remains my favorite still.
Tixati "attractive interface"? I know it's a matter of taste but I personally find it absolutely hideous.
As for me, I'm still using uTorrent 2.2.1 and haven't had a problem with it so far. I imagine that there will come a time when I have to upgrade, but not today.
None taken, by the same logic your statement "attractive interface" is equally meaningless?
In any case, I was referring to the interface design. The use of "Buttons" for almost everything, the large bland icons, the colorfully vague logo design. It all reminds me of applications that was made with VB5/6 for Windows 9X back in the day.
I tried it and from what I could tell, you can't really change anything about the interface design. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but you can change colors and fonts, but the icons and ultimately the overall design remains the same.
I've been trying qBitTorrent for a while now but I'm fed-up with its bugs.
If I try to add a torrent that I downloaded a part of previously, it doesn't automatically recheck, all it does is stay "Stalled" and manual/forced recheck does nothing, it just re-downloads everything again after the check is done.
Also, when trying to change the download folder for the torrent, it becomes utterly retarded. Sometimes it works, but often it downloads some of the content to the new folder and the rest in a folder with the original name, it's so frustrating.
The only feature I liked about was the "sequential download" option, it's very helpful when downloading series..etc
I'll probably go back to uTorrent 2.2 since I still can't find a decent replacement.
Personally, I never had any issues with OpenCandy nor have I ever considered it "controversial" to begin with. On the contrary, I have discovered some useful applications through it on more than one occasion.
OpenCandy is legitimate way for developers to earn a little money from the applications that they distribute for free. It's perfectly harmless and all its offerings are always optional.
If you have a problem with OpenCandy, then you're free to look for an alternative. But demonizing it doesn't help anyone.
Adware is not perfect but it's not necessarily evil either.
I never had OpenCandy install an application that I explicitly declined its offer, not even once. Also, it's not hidden at all. All the applications I have tried that had OpenCandy, it was clear that was optional, but people rarely bother read and many are just to the "next-next-ok" sequence. But whose fault is that? We're not talking about some ambiguous "fine print" here, the option to decline is right there.
Deficient? I wouldn't know. Perhaps careless? I can't understand why so many people complain about it, AFAIK anyone can bypass it completely using a switch, an application (Unchecky?) or simple common sense. And even then people are always free to look for alternatives.
It's not that I love OpenCandy, but this all feels like some sort of witch-hunt to me. If you personally experienced OpenCandy installing applications without your consent or it installing actual harmful software then I'd like to know, really. I simply never experienced any issues with it nor have I ever felt it to be harmful.
Handbrake used to be my favorite encoder up until 0.9.8 but it went downhill from there.
That being said, VidCoder is basically HandBrake (GUI) done right, its far more stable and supports all of its necessary functions while providing a simple and friendly interface, so thanks a lot for that suggestion.
I think you should highlight VidCoder more, I almost missed it while reading the article.
Personally, I despise MediaCoder, that nag screen makes it impossible to batch-encode anything. And the only way to get rid of it, is to "donate" $35 or more (that or buy the premium version obviously).
It's sad there aren't many security products that offers an integrated firewall. That being said, I've used "ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall" before and my experience with it has been positive.
You make it sound like OpenCandy is some sort of malware, it is not. It's adware, and last time I checked it's completely optional.
It's not unreasonable for developers to try earn some money by including something like OpenCandy which is as far as I can tell is completely harmless. If you don't like the included application(s), then choose not to install them, it's as simple as that.
I'm really getting tired of people whining about OpenCandy.
I'm afraid I've noticed a certain degree of bias against OpenCandy on several occasions from some Gizmo's staff/users, so how can I not complain when they demonize "OpenCandy" and use terms such as "OpenCandy-infected".
Also, the author goes as far was stating that he cannot recommend the installable version just because it comes with OpenCandy? That's not fair in my opinion.
OpenCandy is not malware and I've never faced any problems with it, I always just unchecked it and installed the application normally.
There are far worse adwares out there, some cleverly hidden that the user could miss it and other don't even give you a choice.
I tried them all, but I couldn't find anything that could replace "Swype Keyboard Free" for me. It's not perfect, but for someone who relies heavily on "swipe to type" it's the best.
I used to use "Ghostery" for quite some time, but I got tired of it breaking certain webpages that I visit frequently and I wasn't exactly fond of how they made their money.
In any case, I'm using "DoNotTrackMe" now and so far I haven't had any of the issues I was facing with "Ghostery".
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the free version of Unity doesn't allow to publish to mobile platforms, as I recall, even in the pro version, mobile platforms had extra cost individually.
I tried this a long time ago and I distinctly remember that I hated it at the time. The idea sounds great in theory, but in reality it kept dimming the screen too much, it was never comfortable.
Perhaps it improved over time, I'll give it another shot.
Edit: No, it's still too uncomfortable for eyes, also there's no option to detect games/movies so it can be disabled automatically as far as I could tell.
I tried it briefly but wasn't fond of it. It was a pain to find in the first place since AFAIK it's not listed among the FF official extensions page. Also, I prefer ABE because it shares ABP convenient (and effective) method of selecting a single element (image) to block which I often need.
I tried the element blocking in uB but didn't like it, it was confusing and often didn't do what I want.
It doesn't seem to support cloud/WebDAV though as far as I can tell. It looks like it's more of a traditional backup application rather a "sync" one, slight difference.
All of these applications share a fatal flaw as far as I'm concerned. None of them could automatically detect full-screen applications (games, movies..etc), so they interfere with their colors. And manually disabling and enabling as a solution is just absurd.
Regarding deleting "Windows.old" using CCleaner, I tried it a while ago and it rendered my OS (Windows 10) completely unbootable. So I'd be careful with that.
I downloaded and installed it but it doesn't work for me. It keeps freezing on launch. I tried several times and the result was always the same, in the end I gave up and removed it.
I used to use "GreenShot" until I came across "LightShot", then I switched. It's not as verastile as the former but it has all I that I need and feels less cluttered. I suggest you give it a try.
https://app.prntscr.com/en/index.html
Edit: It's worth nothing that "LightShot" is missing the option to censor/blur parts of the screenshot.
Kickass Torrents (kickass.to) picked up some speed after Demonoid went down and when H33t fell I just started using it regularly. They have a great community, comment system, ratings, bookmarks, etc. Lots of wellknown releases (ETTV, YIFY, etc) too. Great list however, thank you!

I always download it from Bitdefender's official website: http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/free.html
Thanks for pointing that out, I will check the other article.
One more thing, I'm curious as to why "MSE" isn't included in that list? From my experience it's an excellent set-and-forget antivirus and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it has been integrated in Windows 8 and higher.
Not possible, all three computers I tested this issue on they are in English.
I also just tested right now on my own laptop (running Windows 8.1 x64) and I'm having the exact same issue.

However I managed to find a workaround for this issue here:

Indeed, I wanted to try it several times but was unable to due to that problem.
In any case, I'm glad I could help.
I tried to download Qihoo's 360 Total Security to test it but I got this warning message from Comodo SecureDNS:
http://i.imgur.com/EFZh4aa.png
Any idea what's this all about?
I tried it today briefly but it was disappointing. During the initial scan it stated that it found and cleaned 16 infected files which is highly unlikley considering the semi-empty PC I was testing it on, but even when I opened its log, it was empty. Also, the fact it has no options to speak of leaves a lot to be desired.
Will do and you're welcomed.
I thought you should know that it has gone worse, now Comodo SecureDNS completely blocks access to Qihoo's English website: http://www.360safe.com

It's worth noting that this didn't happen before, it was only blocking the download.
The download link for "Panda Cloud Antivirus" is outdated, it's not working. I got it through the official website.
Anyone aware of a file manager that supports reading from and writing to MTP devices?
I can't use "Windows Explorer" it fails to copy the data and gets stuck at "calculating time".
PS: I'm not affiliated with OpenCandy in any way.
I suggest "Lightning Browser", it's lightweight and gets the job done.
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=acr.browser.lightning
I tried most music players out there but JetAudio remains my favorite.
"File Commander" is an excellent file manager with a beautiful interface, but lacks some advanced features.
"FX File Explorer" remains my favorite though, it's well designed and it has root support which is a must for me.
It's sad there aren't many security products that offers an integrated firewall. That being said, I've used "ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall" before and my experience with it has been positive.
Tried it briefly but didn't like it at all. I found the interface to be clunky and confusing. I think I'll stick with FastStone ImageViewer instead.
The free version of FRAPS is crippleware, it's way too limited to be of any real use.
Does it work on any GPU? Or must it be an MSI one?
Good to know, thanks.
I agree, ever since I started using "Greenshot" I never looked back.
Seems interesting, but since an integrated "Firewall" is crucial to me, "ZoneAlarm® Free Antivirus + Firewall 2015" seems to be a solid/better option.
Here are the differences between the "Community" and "Express" editions in case anyone is curious:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/onecode/archive/2014/11/12/differences-between-v...
Also, more information here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dorischen/archive/2014/11/12/q-amp-a-on-visual-s...
I'm curious though, why is it so large when "Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate" is roughly 3.5GB and "Visual Studio 2013 Premium" is about 2.8GB?
It looks simple, but I prefer "Greenshot" still. It's easy to use and offers a lot of useful features.
The title is a bit misleading; the term "Develop" suggest the article is about some sort of web development IDE or suite.
I suggest using "Host" instead of "Develop" (for the title).
So for the meantime I think I'll stick with ABE.
It's too bad that the free version is so limited.
I tried to download it but I got a warning as well: http://i.imgur.com/nnBwb4z.png
Yeah, I thought so but I figured I'd report it here and confirm rather than ignore it.
I'll give a try later on my VM, thanks.
I'm curious about this as well. I've had a lot of false positives with 360TS as of late, it's been getting annoying.
Sadly, the free version doesn't support JQuery which pretty much makes it useless for me.
Personally, I'm not fond of the new design, especially the new front-page. I prefer the simplicity of the old one.
So, how is this different from any run-of-the-mill VPN/Proxy service?
I'm getting an error even though I'm using a real email address (not an disposable one) and only tried once.
"Too many subscribe attempts for this email address. Please try again in about 5 minutes. (#8587)"
Edit: nvm, managed to register after a while.
I downloaded FreeOCR5.4.1 for Windows 10.
When trying to install program, Avast Antivirus blocked installation due to "IDP: Generic Virus"
What gives ????????
Kickass Torrents (kickass.to) picked up some speed after Demonoid went down and when H33t fell I just started using it regularly. They have a great community, comment system, ratings, bookmarks, etc. Lots of wellknown releases (ETTV, YIFY, etc) too. Great list however, thank you!
