Want To Learn Hacking? Hacking For Dummies Book Is Free 2 years 6 months ago Chilli

The form you have to fill to get it is pretty annoying. But it's worth it. The book looks very good.
I used Opera's very good vpn/proxy, script defender and fake name generator to get to the download.

Want To Learn Hacking? Hacking For Dummies Book Is Free 2 years 6 months ago zachw

Just downloaded. It's more of a general overview book with very little specific hacking information. Searched for "sql injection" and there were two matches with no explanation of what it even is much less an example! Mentions in one sentence that you can encrypt your messages with PGP (which almost nobody uses these days). A very short paragraph on honeypot, but zero info on setting one up, just a reference to google hack honeypot. Indeed, the entire book seems to be mostly a reference for software tools. Just reconfirmed my low opinion of the whole "For Dummies" genre.

Want To Find Out How Password Cracking Works? 6 years 3 months ago richtea (not verified)

Just last week, one of my Yahoo mail addresses got hacked from Russia; I did use a password that was deemed of "medium" strength on MS test site, but it was not good enough. So the lesson also is, should you check passwords for strength before applying them, preferably opt for "strong" at least.

Thanks Rob for pointing us to that interesting must-read article.

Main conclusion: long = strong

>> So the lesson also is, should you check passwords for strength before applying them,
>> preferably opt for "strong" at least.
I would say: opting for "long" is better.
Since you don't know how a site determines a password is "medium" or "strong".
But as the article reveals: long IS strong

This makes you feel safer while you aren't.
As the article reveals too: replacing 'e' by '3' or 'o' by '0' doesn't make your password stronger at all.

This is an amazing - and scary - article. I thought I had a handle on how to create safe passwords, but the variations this cracking process easily applies shows me I'm not any safer than the majority of otherwise uninformed users. Everything changes today.

Can anyone answer: Does a site's hashing the user-name as well as the password improve security? Is it possible and feasible to do so?

Thanks. Nice article.

view
Want To Find Out How Password Cracking Works? 6 years 3 months ago rob.schifreen No, it's not generally feasible to hash the username as well. Sites need to know the "real" username because it is a key to not just the password, but also to the rest of the data record associated with that account. For example, if I wanted to know your email address, I (as a moderator of this site) could go to your record in the database and probably find it. But if your username was stored as a hash, how could I find your record? view
Want To Find Out How Password Cracking Works? 6 years 3 months ago Shelduck

I do not completely follow you and you appear to have made a mistake with your assertion that: 'put "TechSupportAlert" through the MD5 hash formula and it comes out as b7c1ecff69702b37278e9badcb386e30.'
Using the freeware IgorWare Hasher program or the http://www.adamek.biz/md5-generator.php webpage, it is apparent that "TechSupportAlert" has MD5-value of 1f7d7254b28b1ada3a47aaba7c8335f1 (or c7a1471461abe6d07f05b200396a8619 if the quote marks are included).

From their download page:

It sounds like mobile publishing is now supported in the free version.

Did anyone downloaded it and published it to mobile platform ?
I am interested in Android (well who's not) but can not afford just on beautiful talks to download the 1.2 GB.

So need concrete proof that one can develop, publish with the free version in Android Play store.

Till then good article.

Want The Same Video Editor That Was Used On Pulp Fiction? For Free? 1 year 7 months ago Bruce_Fraser

Yes, this truly is a wonderful gift to the world.
However, the recommended system specifications will leave many of us out in the cold:
• Intel i7 chipset or faster, fast AMD chipset
• Two high-resolution displays (1920 x1080) or above
• PCI Express graphics card (NVIDIA or ATI) with 1GB or higher
• Separate media and system drives (these can be internal or external as long as the
interface has sufficient speed)

This is very sad news, WinAmp was my first Windows mediaplayer and I still have a soft spot for it even though I've moved on in terms of my primary player.

I always loved it for the visualisations and the excellent community of coders providing a great variety of skins and plug ins.

I guess this means that the skins and plug ins will also be unavailable. That's a real shame.

If anyone is looking for a good replacement that's equally professional, lightweight, open, plugin-based, powerful, to-the-point, etc, Foobar2K is a perfect alternative for you. http://www.foobar2000.org/

Just try it, the screenshots and such on the site hardly show 1% of its potential. You can customize EVERYTHING, set it all up with format strings to parse tags into folder structures and display items and such.

It's the last line of defense between us and rubbish like iTunes...

This news makes me so sad as I felt when I read about M$ buying Skype, years ago. After, the "end" of MSN...

It's realy a pity to see that so many good and useful softwares, full of pleased users, are being aquired in a moment just for disband competing companies, control of market and accumulation of money. Times later, the "dreams are abandoned" and the softwares are simply throwed in trash by the buyers...

The users and fans? "Let's look to the future!"

A number of companies insist on saying that the users are their biggest patrimony and their number one objective, but, in practice, they make exactly the opposite.

Regrettable!

Sorry, but I'm not at all impressed by this list. I don't deny that some of the sites are very good. That's not the point. What's astonishing is that the author has completely missed the two biggest and best sites - RGB Stock and Pixabay. Between them, they have well over 800,000 free images, all of excellent quality. In contrast, some of the sites listed by the author are very small or limited in scope. This suggests that either the author hasn't done his homework or has particular reasons for mentioning only the ones that he does. Okay, he does list 21 sites. But I know of nearly 200.

Provided you have administrative access for the router then you can check this at anytime. The WiFi router is also where you block specific devices from accessing your network. view

I currently have 71,742 people in front of me in the queue but have no idea where I'm situated overall. At the end of the day, if I'm successful it's cost me nothing. If I'm unsuccessful, the same applies!

i finally found the perfect personal cloud based storage. once i cleared the clutter caused by "cloud based" storage companies i realized, i've got more used mb's, network adapters, cpu's and hard drives than i could ever fill up with my irreplaceable data. it's a lot faster than uploading to some server, no waiting to get the ok to download what i need and a lot more secure behind my rogers and spencer .44 and my trained attack chihuahua plus it only runs when i tell it to run (very cost effective) since i put that attack dog to protecting my lan, i now have several honeypots setting out trying to lure some germs into my network. i'll bet the clown servers don't openly invite "guest" in.

It took a little bit of a wait to get zoolz but after the initial Genie Timeline set up to 'shadow' and upload my C: drive all is well and Genie is incremental so any changes I make are uploaded every six hours.Remember that I warned everyone about the initial uploading seems to take like FOREVER but all is sweet after...enjoy!

Seems it doesn't like gmail "+" addresses (name+random@gmail.com). It happily let me enter it, sent me an email, but if I click on the link to see where I am I get "We are sorry we cannot find your email"

Has anyone noticed a slight increase in NEW spam since signing up?

dv8Cowboy,

Can you explain something to me about the initial installation?

What is the No-Zoolz Zone folder that appeared on my desktop?

Frankly, this entire process has me more than confused and their documentation/help is disjointed.

Thanks...

windy,I discovered that Zoolze was eating up ALL my CPU cycles and my Intel i5 was running at 100% and nothing else would hardly work...needless to say I booted the Zoolz off my machine ASAP! The damn thing is malware as far as I am concerned.

Yep, I noticed the same thing this morning when I booted up - it seems to eat up resources.

I have also uninstalled...

Thanks for the reply.

I have access to sign up for Zoozl.
But when you read the user agreement it give one great pause.
There is also a Privacy Policy and Product Agreement.

I went to Zoolz and tried to sign up, and these are the lies Zoolz told me:

"Linux Soon

Oops! We've noticed that you are on a Mac, we are working 24/7 to release it. It will be out April 30, 2013"

...along with a frowning "Mac" icon. I question if they are truly working 24/7.

Well, I went to a SugarSync features request forum where crowds of Linux users gather to complain fruitlessly about no support, and posted my referral link to Copy.com (where I get 5 GB for each referral). So, I'm up to 125 GB on Copy.com. I uploaded two hours of home movies and due to the slow upload speeds of our cable, it took all night. But at least it works great on Linux, like UbuntuOne and Dropbox.

Adrive tries to tantalize with "if only you upgrade to premium"
I am sticking with Dropbox and Mediafire

HOWEVER - there is a new unlimited storage site called Putlocker
http://www.putlocker.com/
It has FTP which has been down for a couple of day. Upload speeds are good to excellent, depending on the time of day. It is more of a link site than a backup storage solution
