Wallpaper of the Week: Sun Breaking Over Field of Sunflowers 2 years 2 months ago rhiannon

Thanks....and you're right about the sunflowers. A bit of image manipulation going on there, but it makes for a nice wallpaper. :)

Wallpaper of the Week: Sun Breaking Over Field of Sunflowers 2 years 2 months ago Jojo Yee

Maybe these are mature sunflowers, Rhiannon.

According to this article, "Mature sunflowers finally stop displaying heliotropism when they start to develop seeds and therefore droop from the weight of these seeds. They end up mostly facing east from this point in their lifecycle on."

Quite obvious for some mature and drooping sunflowers shown in the wallpaper :)

I'll probably never use the sunflower wallpaper as a desktop image as is, but it's just begging for some text in a couple of areas, so it's going onto my one of many todo lists.

It was a Frank Zappa concert in Switzerland.
Apparently Deep Purple was across the lake from the Zappa concert and saw the huge fire and smoke over the lake.

Wallpaper Abyss is a site I've had bookmarked for a long time. They probably have the best selection of military themed wallpapers (including the famous Iwo Jima flag raising)....which is a category most other wallpaper sites completely ignore.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Shoreline Sunset 2 years 3 weeks ago rhiannon I like the site a lot, and you're right, they have images of subjects that aren't common on other sites. My only slight issue with them is that many of the wallpapers are only available in smaller resolutions. That's much like most wallpaper sites, while a few have pretty much all high resolution images. view

Great to see the list of wallpapers!
Would it be possible to see the wallpapers with small icon photos in a GRID format. That would make things easier to find.

I need to change my desktop, cover photos etc. for some sites periodically so this is good. Do you have dimensions of some of the more commonly used sites photos are updated ie. Facebook, Youtube, Google+, etc.. They are not listed on the site and would be nice to have noted in your articles etc.
Thanks.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Radiant Morning Sun 4 years 3 months ago rhiannon

Thanks for your comment. I don't believe there's a way to list the images in a grid or by thumbnails though I can check on that.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did a quick search and found this page - you can find essential sizes for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and Tumblr (up to date as of Sept. 2015) here:
http://louisem.com/2852/social-media-cheat-sheet-sizes

Hope that helps.

I appreciate nature and landscape photography as much as the next person but maybe it's time to explore other wallpaper categories. That particular website offers some very nice city nightscapes for example. Still can't figure out why they think it's necessary to provide screen resolutions to 13 decimal places though.

view
Wallpaper of the Week: Milky Way Rising Over Snowcapped Mountains 4 years 2 months ago rhiannon I'm not sure...........it looks like it could be a real photo to me, but I'm no expert, that's for sure. It could be a photo that's been enhanced with Photoshop, it could be something created in Photoshop or a similar program......I've also seen some amazing night time photos that are as good as that and haven't been re-touched. I think only the person who created it knows for sure. A local photographer (who recently moved, sadly) takes shots of the Milky Way around here that are absolutely breathtaking. Clear, dark skies and long exposure times are what work for him. :) view

Bhodi Linux has quite a loyal following. At inception it used the E17 (Enlightenment) desktop but later releases of this introduced a lot of instability so the Bhodi developers decided to fork the last stable version of Enlightenment and so created the Moksha desktop used now. This is very different to your usual Gnome, Mate, KDE, Xfce etc., which makes it quite appealing. M.C - Site Manager.
